Matt and Bratt Reveal Sal Will Not Be Back!

According to an article on Broadway.com, our beloved Sal will not return to Mad Men! Ever! Arrrggghhhhh!

http://www.broadway.com/buzz/broadway-vet-bryan-batt-will-not-return-tvs-mad-men/

I am as disheartened as I can be, and will miss Bryan and his storyline emmensely. I know how important being true-to-life in the storyline is, but (I guess) the writers just could not figure out how to let us know how and what he would be doing away from the Sterling Cooper Pryce offices.

I'm getting old, but I seem to remember gay people didn't disappear in the '60s when they were fired from corporate workplaces. They went on to focus on building their communities and the political foundations that would propel their interests later in the decade. I just hope we see Sal alive and strong marching in some parade and waving a rainbow banner. We can only hope!

Fashion

I have a "real" cheetah 60's peacoat made for Melissa Hayden. She was the New York City prima ballerina from 1955- 1973. Would make for beautiful fashion, I don't know how to contact the show so.......

why does AMC make a great station with great movies bad with shows like mad men

Mad Men Season 4 Trailer... TOO sexist?

Love the show, but do they take the chauvinism of the 60s too far? Watch:

Talking on the Telephone

Ever notice that everytime someone is talking on the telephone, they say a witty last thought and then, click, the line goes dead. How come they never say good-bye? Was that an old custom in the 60s, since I always say bye even in texts.

MATTEL Barbie and Ken as Betty and Don Draper Dolls?

I've read rumors that Mattel may do a MAD MEN Barbie and Ken as Betty and Don Draper. Here is my personal OOAK vintage Ken doll prototype for Don Draper:

I shoot for Haute Doll Magazine (www.hautedoll.com) and we'll be featuring an eight-page spread in our April 2010 issue of an amazing miniature reproduction of Don Draper's office, complete with furniture, as well as six of your favorite characters in 1:6 scale.

November 9, 1965

AKA known as The Great Blackout of 1965.

I would LOVE to see a MM episode cover this event.:)

Madison Avenue in the 1970's

When I heard about this show I couldnt wait to watch it and see if was anything close to what I remember when I worked as an account secretary at BBDO in 1976. I was immediately taken back to that time when I was a young 20 year old girl and had my first job in NYC on Madison Avenue! I even heard Mr. Cooper speak of the (then) President of BBDO, Jim Jordan. I remember working for Mr. Jordan covering his very busy desk from 5 (after his regular secy went home) until whenever the line of people who wanted to see him thinned out! My main function was to prepare drinks for him and his guests!

I do feel the show does an excellent job portraying just what the ad business was like back then. Although, I think the drinking and smoking is just slightly exaggerated. The liquor cabinets usually didnt open up on a regular business day until 5 pm. The executives didn't walk around the office carry liquor, it was usually confined to their offices.

It was a fun place to work if you were young, single and didnt mind late hours and last minute changes. I look back on those years fondly, despite the sexism. It wasnt quite as bad by the 70's, but the workplace was still truly dominated by men.

I'm enjoying the show immensely and can't wait for season 4. Any 70's ad secys out there?

Golden Globes tonight!

I just wanted to wish everyone, especially Matt Weiner, Jon Hamm and January Jones, the best of luck tonight. We'll all be rooting for you! Any special maddict celebrations planned tonight?

When will season 4 premiere?

Your Post

Premiere Party

I'm not sure it could be me, but we need a San Antonio, Texas, area premiere party to watch the first episode of Season 4 in August!

Help for College!

I'm doing a project focusing on marriage in the fifties/sixties. Obviously I jumped at the change to use Mad Men - can anyone suggest episodes where marriage was really shown with interaction between the couple?

Twitter Shorty Awards and Mad Men

Hi all. There is a movement on twitter to try and get Ian Schafer into the Shorty finals. If you don't know what the Shortys are, they're awards for social media content. Ian is the CEO of Deep Focus, the social media marketing arm of Mad Men and he headed up the fantastic and ground-breaking Mad Men Yourself campaign.

Anyway, if any of you have a twitter account and would like to vote, the link is below. All you need to do is add a few words about why he should be nominated (it can be humorous, serious, anything).

THX!

Mad Men TV Series

Will there be a season 4 ?
When will it Start

Mad Men or Women?

I am late to the martini party. I just finished watching season 3. This is a damn good show. I have not seen anything of this caliber for a long time.

Not that it really matters because I am still going to watch it. But are most audiences for this show, men or women? I guess there is only one way to find out.

Hello, I am Anton. I am a men and watch Mad Men. What say you?

Did you see Elizabeth Moss on "Did You Hear About The Morgans?"

I kept thinking throughout the whole movie, Who is she? I know her...She's very good...It wasn't until I saw her name in the end credits that I realized!!! She was so funny. What did you all think?

Best Quotes from Season 3

Season 3 had some great quotes by the characters. What quote did you feel was the best?

Interview with Christina Hendricks in GQ (Uk) issue February 2010

Season 4

When oh when will it begin?

Why Aren´t There Any Outside Shots of NYC?

OK you will tell me the show is not filmed in NYC which I know however it seems they are missing a great opportunity here, they should at least film something on the streets of NYC. There are still plenty of locations which have that ´60s feel.

Madmen character sighting

On this week's episode of NCIS, Melinda Page Hamilton aka Anna Draper appears as the ex-wife of a scientist.

Follow up on the ,"What's Don gonna do when he finds out?" post

Maybe it's bigger than just a respect thing. It's definitely bigger than something personal or sexual, however interesting that may be.Business has a part in it of course, it has to. I think it goes deeper than even that.

It's fair to say that Don is at a very fragile time in his life at the end of season 3.Don's whole world has fallen from underneath his feet. He needs to feel in control again. Needs to know that there are people who trust him and have his back.

Peggy was the first one asked to side with the new agency. It wasn't even asked of her, like it was of the others, to keep it quiet about it. Don didn't have to, he knows he can trust Peggy with out a doubt.
But here's the thing, this whole time since Peggy has been on accounts she has had a need to be included. She made that clear to everyone. It's funny how Peggy doesn't even realize that she was being included in something big when Don was telling her about the new agency.

I can't blame Peggy for basically saying no, and walking out of Don's office, after telling him how she felt. And Don wasn't expecting that.I wondered how Don took that in? I mean with the way Don's personal life was going he didn't really need it from Peggy too. Don didn't plan on that. He didn't think Peggy was going to make him have to open up to her.

So what frame of mind and how true was Don's heart when he went to Peggy's apartment? Was he genuine when he told her [sic] I see you as an extension of myself? Or was he just using his "genius" on her to get her to come with him? He wouldn't play games like that would he?

If he was being real he was admitting to her that he needed her "genius" to make SCDP work. He actually said ,"I can't do it with out you." That's alot for Don Draper to bear. To admit that he may not be able to bring to the table that genius mad man that he's said to be. To make SCDP work his plan was to include Peggy.

All of this started because of Duck in the first place. Don never really cared for Duck too much only hired him because he was told to. Then Don made Duck look bad and got him fired so there's definitely bad blood there. If he knew Peggy ,who Don sees as an extension of himself (hell he feel like there's no one else like him beside Peggy), was involved with Duck it would blow his mind on many levels.

Maybe the real question should be, now that Peggy knows how Don feels about her.
How alarmed is Peggy that Don will find out about her and Duck?

Here's another twist, maybe it might even spark a bit of jealousy in Don. Make him see Peggy in a light he's never seen before.

Don might have to be honest in the future...

I'm not sure if this issue has been raised before and I apologise if it has (there's alot of posts to sift through!) but something occurred to me:
Betty now knows about Don's past and his birth name, etc. Now that they are gettig divorced, presumably he will start dating. Now, okay, Don is not exactly a long-term relationship type of guy, but if he ever starts something even vaguely serious with someone and Betty meets her (due to th children meeting her, or even accidently), she may end up being told about Don's 'secrets' earlier than Don would like.
Either because Betty tells her (is there anybody here who would actually put that past her?), probably just to be vindictive, or because Betty threatens Don, or just that he wants to pre-empt her.
There's a good chance that this will never be brought up, particularly due to Don's preference for "dicking around", but I just thought that might be interesting.
