Where is Sal?

I was totally disappointed the season ended without him

He'll turn up at the Stonewall Riot 6 seasons from now!

He MAY get his job back ... remember, Lucky Strike is with the new agency, which means Lee Garner Jr.

Hopefully Don can put the bully in his place!

Good to see Joan staying. She'll leave that jackass.
As for Roger, doing the great funny lines and liftin up the show.
Don, he'll pick just the right path.
Peggy, she'll pick the right path.
Betty, she's been given everything, and well, we'll see what she gets.
Pete, he's a weasel but ferret's make great pets.
Kinsey, Sal, and Ken they'll stay. Too cool to die.
Duck..gross man. Just gross.

Don will talk to Lee Jr. privately. You and Lucky Strike are very important to us but Sal is as well. If this is going to be a problem, we'll have to arrange for Lee Sr. to find out.

Joan will not leave her doctor. Perhaps not even after Roger is free of Jane and proposes to Joan. Six weeks in Reno... Don can probably give her the name of the place where Betty stayed.

I like your theory, Ritt 1. Don can be quite persuasive. Lee Jr. is not as discreet as he could be and I propose this theory - he gets picked up during a raid of a private club or at a park, disgraces Daddy and is off the payroll for good. Sal returns in good graces since he did take the high road when Lee came on to him...just a thought and a lot of time to wait and see what does happen.

Sal is a great character. I wouldn't put past the writers for Sal to have his own media art company. Sterling Cooper Draper and Price outsource commercial work with Sal's company. Or they build a seperate media division so that way they can keep Sal with out all the BS.

I said this on another thread but wasn't that Sal getting out of a car at the end of the show -- he was wearing a brownish trench coat and carrying two bags. It didn't show his face. Anybody else think this was Sal? Recall that :Peggy said there was nobody in art and they would need an artist in the new agency.

mustlovedogs -
AMC's episode recap said it was Don moving into a Greenwich Village hotel.

SCDP needs Sal, Roger will find a way to soothe Lee Jr and all will be well.

Sal was my favorite mid-level character. I remember when homosexuals acted and looked just like him. My uncle, for example. Class, all the way. Reminds me of when Mel Brooks, David Steinberg and others were on David Susskind's show and the topic was Jewish mothers. Brooks said, "They don't acknowledge the existence of homosexuals. They'll say, 'He's neat...he's a neat boy..." Hysterical.

Sad, tragic really, that Sal needs to live a lie. But he handles himself with great dignity (thanks to Mr. Batt's gifted acting).

I genuinely hope that his character is resurrected as head of the new Art Department for Sterling, Cooper, Pryce, Jones, Smith, Porter, whatever...

Thanks Rit

I took the Man Men personality type quiz and turns out I am a "Sal" personality type. Who knew! I am female, not gay, but share a lot of other traits with him.

I think he'll definitely be back. I thought Brian Batt hit just the right note in his portrayal of a conflicted 1960s gay man.

Wonder what they'll do with Mr. Lucky Strike, Jr. if they try to bring Sal back in (and you know they will.)

Sal will be hired at SCDP; I think that Lee Jr. will meet some ill fated and premature end. Lee Sr. will then look to Roger and Don as his surrogate sons, and let them do whatever they want, including hiring Sal, since he has no knowledge of what ahppened.

Sal will either be close to leaving or will have left Kitty when we see him next, but wants to make sure she is taken care of ... he fixes her up with Ken.

Or Joan's husband will be sent to Vietnam MASH unit and killed

"I wouldn't put past the writers for Sal to have his own media art company."

Interesting.

I think they've invested quite a bit in development
of Sal's character, and will not throw that away,
as they shouldn't, he provides a most interesting
dimention to the show.

Self employment ?
That sort of thing maybe fairly common today,
given economic paradyme shifts,
Myself, I've been sucessfully self employed for a very long time. But I am still an exception, rather than a rule in my industry.

However back in the setting of the time frame
of the show I suspect it was very rare indeed,
for a single professional to go it alone.

Just a thought.

The danger here is that the writers could
impose contemporary circumstances
and effectively ruin, and dumb down
the show, as happens with so many others.

Given their track record so far, I trust them
not to.

Quality, over quantity !

I just finished watching the 3rd season on DVD. I was wondering how Sal was gonna fit in the 4th season. Turns out, he's not coming back. I'm very sorry to hear this. After Don referred to Sal as "You People," I figured Don wouldn't hire him back. I'd like to just see what happened after he left though, even if he is brought back as a guest star to wrap things up. I think there are a lot of options for his character. I'm sorta starved for some good steamy gay guy scenes on TV that aren't silly. I think I watched the bellhop scene 3 times.

I'm gay and I'm a graphic designer. I miss sal already. :-)

Please, bring Sal back. He would be a great addition to the new agency. I LOVED him!!!!

Just checked IMDB and Bryan isn't credited with any S4 MM episodes.

I was just wondering when and if Sal would make an appearance, but just noticed a previous comment re: IMDB and Bryan's not credited with any S4 MM episodes.

You never know, though.

So I was watching season 1 DVD and listening to the commentary for "Shoot".

Matt Weiner was talking with the costume designer but when we get to the bit where Betty is coming in for the audition, Matt mentions, "Jim Hobart introduces Ronnie Gittridge as his brother-in-law which is a little joke people might have missed..." but then the designer start going on about the colors on the dress or something and Matt never gets back to mentioning what the "joke" was?

I realize that McCann has a "Sal character" just like Sterling Cooper did... but what was the joke about the "Brother-in-Law". Anyone?

I will be back and dating a younger version of don Draper, more gay crazy antics!

Sal brought an interesting twist to already meaty cast of characters. I wanted to see what happened in that era to be not like the rest.

PLEASE! What an extremely important character for those times and TODAY's times! Showing what homosexuals had to endure THEN could help people today with understanding and respecting them / the movement.

Please, bring back SAL .
Love the show.
