There's Something About Henry

The guy is totally nutz. You would think that a man his age would be smart enough to know what he's doing with women and know that one piece of ass is really not too different from another and of course when you marry them they change and it all becomes one big bore or aggravation. And that's not even considering any loss of assets by divorcing the former wife or the expense of taking care of a prima donna like Betty and her 3 kids.He should have just kept her on the side until he got bored with her. Much simpler.

I don't think he's married.

Well if he's not married then he's just stupid.

Its like I told my old football coach in high school. He continually told us that we should keep our bodies pure and save the vigor for the field and keep our minds clear to overcome and defeat our opponents. Me being the sarcastic cynic, I told him, and I will dress this up for this site, the v is undefeated!

Now that I posted that I am getting a flashback vibe to the locker room scene with Tony Soprano and his football coach. Say what you want, Betty is a very attractive woman, and Henry is one of those folks that think they can fix everything, remember he works for the government.

Betty and Henry's relationship is something that really doesn't pass the reality check. How many times have they seen each other?

He's probably 47 to 52 and taking on three kids and a Nordic ice queen that only a Maytag dryer can satisfy. Henry reminds me of an older version of that weird neighborhood kid that wanted to "rescue" Betty last season.

Betty ain't no prize.

It just seems weird to me that Henry wants to marry someone he barely knows. Let's go back to their first meeting. What man in his right mind who isn't drunk touches the pregnant belly of a stranger? I don't know of any. Is Henry a widower? Is he divorced? We know that he has a grown daughter who is a friend of Roger's daughter but who is the mother of this young woman?
Or could Henry really be the perfect husband for Betty. Will they be very much in love in Season 4 and then one day when he's taveling alone on business he is killed in an accident. Then we will have Betty, the beautiful young widow ala Jackie Kennedy in mourning and looking for consolation from her ex-Don. Can't wait to see what the Matt Weiner has in store for us in S4. I miss all those wonderful characters on MM already.

The Henry plotline is a catalyst to remove January Jones from the spotlight. I will be very surprised if Jones has much of a role next season.

Henry is unbelievably creepy -- on the plane in Ep. 13 he looks positively reptilian. Betty is marrying her father in a sense -- a controlling tyrant -- we've glimpsed this trait in Henry in the lawyer's office (I don't want you to owe him anything!) What the hell is that about? Since when would getting support for three children "owing" the father something! I lived through the sixties and I don't recall ever hearing of anything like this happening.

I hope Betty does get her act together and starts asserting herself once the thing with Henry goes bad. But with three kids -- who knows. Her education and background do not prepare her for what's coming in her world, so perhaps she'll remain a "kept" woman, hooking up with man after controlling man until she's old, brittle and cynical.
