The Revolution of December 13th

Just a thread to discuss odds and ends of the "revolution" of Draper, Sterling, Cooper and Pryce. There was, for example, some marvelous visual choreography in this episode. Like Don comes in and faces a seated Bert, convinces him. They go to Roger, sit down with him--he behind the desk, them facing him, forming a triangle. Then they deal with Pryce. Nice that building up of who's on board.

The second meeting with Pryce where Pryce admits PPL is being sold, too, is marvelous. Because the minute they get Pryce on board, the four of them sit, simultaneously, in four corners. It's a great visual indicating a kind of stability, like the four legs of a chair. It echos that feeling that every one of their brains is working and playing off each other--which hasn't quite been the case in previous meetings between them.

They're equals and together in the revolution, suddenly each of them is at the top of their game and they're a formidable team. Pryce was the last musketeer as it were, or the last member of the band. It all clicks into place.

And then there is that awesome moment when Don and Roger leave SC, together they open the doors and together they quite literally close the doors on SC, on their past.

Other things you saw, noticed or just want to chat about concerning this revolution--which, while not a youth movement or a civil rights movement, is still a blow, of sorts, for freedom and individuality?

The Decembrists!

Freedom from being held as chattel to be bought and sold, chained by their non-compete contracts.

Spot on to call it a Revolution, Thirteen. It came with it's own Tea Party, which the Brit(ish)
Lane Pryce, at first ignored. Then he joined forces with the "revolutionarys," and the British were defeated a second time by "colonists!"

It will be interesting to see whether Mrs. Pryce stays or goes (back to London). Whatever she does, it won't come without some tension in the Pryce household, and it will mirror the historical fact that not every early Colonist was keen on going along with the American Revolution. Some went back to England, rather than "stay and fight."

Don't forget the large number of colonists who were, um, more than encouraged by their "patriotic" neighbors to move to Canada or back to Blighty.

@Ritt1: Absolutely.
I like "The Decembrists." Sounds like a good title for a novel, made into a movie...or even an AMC series.

Uh, the Decembrists is what a group of revolutionaries (military officers and thousands of their troops) revolting against the newly named Tsar Nicholas I in December, 1825 were called. Nicholas was assuming the throne after Tsar Aleksander I, a very liberal ruler for the time, died. The revolt officially started 14 December, 1825.

Tolstoy's initial plan was to write about them some forty years later in War and Peace but quickly went back to their roots during the Napoleonic wars and that was more than enough. (Never made it through either the book or movie myself.)

@Ritt1: Fortunately the MM revolutionaries were successful in their revolt -- and weren't sent off to the likes of Siberia! (At least let's hope that their "coup" survives any potential legal challenges, and remains full steam ahead in S4).

thirteen - visually stimulating - as always - my fav was the crew marching out of SC with Pete holding his rifle propped up on his shoulder! I also enjoyed seeing SC ripped apart the morning after - as if it were the battlefield. most notably, i liked seeing don's painting on the floor, propped against his cabinet. I envision don taking it down to bring with him but then having a change of heart - wanting to leave everything the "old" SC represented behind, hence, his statement to roger, 'i never saw myself in a place like this"
