This was indeed the best episode of M.M. I've ever seen! I couldn't believe how Don and Co. decided to start their own agency. But what, praytell, will happen to Paul, Sal and Ken? Have they been written off the show for good? And poor, ol' Betty..."on the road to Reno" for her and Henry. My prediction is that he'll beat her up or something in Season 4 and Don will come along to save her. Here's hoping that the next season won't be the last. This show is worth missing out on a night of drinking!

They need to get rid of Vincent Kartheiser. He is by far the worst/weakest actor on the show, and his character is such a wimpy, manipulative, baby.
They should've hired Ken Cosgrove as the main account guy; he's strong, confident and a much better actor than Vincent.
Also, having worked in advertising for years, the way it went down is not how it would've happened, i.e. Don, et al leaving the agency with accounts in tact. They wouldn't have had access to it, and they'd have had to sign non-competes, barring them from courting/stealing clients for a period of at least two years; if they violate that, they'd get sued. The whole way they started up their agency at the end of the episode is not 100% accurate.
But again, they should've recruited Ken Cosgrove, not that whiny, spineless Pete Campbell. When is his character going to come out of the closet, too?
Don and Betty are not getting back together.
And the fate of Sal and the others is uncertain.
From Weiner himself:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-11-09/mad-men-laid-bare/
The Daily Beast: While there have been cracks in Don and Betty’s (January Jones) marriage before, their marriage appears now to be well and truly over; is there any hope for the two of them to mend the wounds they’ve inflicted on each other?
Weiner: It’s so unambiguous to me that this marriage is over, but the audience seems to cling to the idea that they should be together because we want to believe in those things. The marriage was not good. It was built on a lie and the lie was exposed. In the end, Don coming clean really damaged his relationship with her, more than the lying, her seeing who he actually was. I do believe when he says his mother was a 22-year-old prostitute that Betty is looking at something that is very far from what she had planned for herself... That was the whole story of the season. When Henry Francis (Christopher Stanley) came on to her… a switch went off in her head of what was missing in her life, which was a true, romantic attachment. In the end, that combination with her gut feeling that something wasn’t right in her marriage and finding out the truth, they don’t belong together anymore, kids or not. You’ve got to take it pretty seriously when someone’s flying to Reno to get a divorce.
The Daily Beast: The formation of the agency left a lot of characters in the wind. Have we seen the last of Ken, Paul, and Sal?
Weiner: I am going to say something that I don’t always say: I don’t know.
BrianSmith: Actually, I like Kartheiser and think he is one of the best on the show. All a matter of opinion, I guess.
VK is a fantastic actor. IMO there's not a bad actor on the show. JMO but that's what I think.
As you say, Trudy, all a matter of opinion.
Pete is indeed a weasel but he is also smart. He has a history with Don and with Peggy. He does epitomize a side to SC.
Sal seems like a character that might pop up again in season 4. Might an incident force him to come out?
Henry is older and has not been honest with Betty. (Didn't he have a scene while dancing where an older daughter asked him who he was staring at?). He becomes enmeshed in something that jolts Betty.
The SC caper might not be legit but it will work. How to succeed in business without really following the rules.
@BrianSmith323, having worked in advertising also for a number of double digit years...i'm not sure the non-compete clause was in effect back in the 60's. after all it suprised duck that don had no contract and don had apparently been with SC for quite sometime (as his reputation preceeds him). so if SC didn't make sure all it's personnel, including the founding officers, signed such an agreement, then that would leave them wide open to "carry off the cash cows". and bringing in joannie to show them where all the bodies are was "priceless". perhaps it was this very era that deemed that little piece of paper a necessity in the industry.
and of course it's television so many things are condensed and smoothed over to move the story along. FWIW i like pete w/this group ken seemed luckily clueless to me at times...and they do need an art director but they still have that closeted Lucky Strike son to deal with. we shall see what we shall see next season...and i can hardly wait. hehehehehe!!!
