"THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL" .... Well, at least they had Keanu cast right as a robotic alien....

Woops my first post jumped the gun, sorry.

As I was posting....anyone catch the remake on HBO last night? Poor Jon Hamm....only a few lines/scenes and then they killed him off in a car wreck just like the wreck he had with Bobbie Barrett!

Anyway....

Anyone else think that Keanu stunk?

They sure wasted Jon Hamm, IMO.

I recall a thread about the movie when it first came out....can't remember if anyone liked it or not.

I think it compared unfavorably (to say the least) with the original with Michael Rennie.

The old "Gort" was better, too, even if they did have to have two different Gort "suits" ~~ one with the zipper in front and one with it in back for however the scene was shot.

I saw this on PPV not too long ago. My husband hated it, but I thought it was good until the ending. Also, they did not have to kill off JH!

Haven't seen the remake, SCfan, and now that I know the Hammster gets killed, I don't know if I can bear to watch it.

Somebody asked me the other day if John Hamm will be the one who jumps out the window on Mad Men, as in the opening sequence, and I just hate the thought of it. I like to think it is Joan's husband, the rat doctor.....or maybe Lee Garner, Jr.......

It wasn't a bad movie. I thought it was no better or worse than the 1951 version. And Keanu Reeves did a pretty good job.

The one actor I was really impressed by was John Slattery's former castmate - Kyle Chandler. He had the most complex role in the cast and he was superb.

That movie was a joke. It started out well, but then the CGI just took over. Now if someone would make Stranger in a Strange Land we would have a good sci-fi movie. That should have been made before the ridiculous Benjamin Button.

Yes, hobocode....don't you just hate it when CGI takes the place of writing and story?

Damn.....even our wonderfully talented Jon Hamm can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear....esp. when he isn't given enough time or lines.....sigh.

I just watched the remake - AWFUL!!! I ordered the original on Netflix so my daughter can see what it was meant to be... The highlight was definitely getting to see JH, although he was totally under-used.

I'm definitely not a sci-fi person, so I thought it was just my natural aversion to the genre.

I thought the child was a real pain in the posterior. I was sorta hoping those bugs or whatever would devour him and get it over with. Or Jennifer Conley would give him some well-deserved tough love.. The only moment that engaged me was when John Hamm was killed - I was horrified.

I did have to admit, the aliens had a good point - if they don't stop the human race, this planet WILL soon become uninhabitable for anybody. Hey, where did that big automaton go? Oh, on a positive note, I LOVED Kathy Bates as Hillary Clinton or whoever she was supposed to
be. She can do a great job with any kind of part.
