One Night in NYC...
Hey Maddicts! I posted a few weeks back looking for advice on things to do while in NYC for one night. You all gave me such great advice... THANKS. I went on 10/15 and, unfortunately it was very cold and rainy. But hey, I'd never been to NYC and I had the night to cram in as much as I could before my conference in the morning, so I made the best of it. First of all, I gotta tell you New Yorkers, I love your city! It is absolutely amazing. I was shocked at how large it was... Atlanta feels SO small to me now. I can not wait to go back for a longer stay!
For a photo journey of my night, you can check out my pics and story here http://www.flickr.com/photos/8395472@N05/sets/72157622630013269/
Warning, my camera battery died so I had to shoot with my cell phone all night. They're not great quality photos but, after a few old fashioneds I didn't really care...

Wow, DD, sounds like you crammed a lot into a tiny window of time!
....NYC is at the top of my list of places I haven't been yet but want to go.
Someday....someday.
Thanks for posting the pics!
sigh
P.S. Hope you're over your hangover by now....lol
Thanks for posting the link so we could all enjoy the trip with you. Glad you had such a good time.
WOW, magnificent pix. I'm so glad you got to enjoy P.J. Clarke's. I was there in the 1960s and again last year when a group of Maddicts got together and Bryan Batt showed up. In my next life I will be a guest at the Roundtable and enjoy listening to Dorothy Parker, et al. I will also visit 52nd St. where there were several jazz clubs next to each other (I was too young for that too) although I did go to Birdland, the Blue Note, The Village Gate and the Village Vanguard. Some of them are still there. Next time you go you should try the Tribeca area and go to Robert DeNiro's restaurant and Ponte's. They are close to the Holland Tunnel area.
I envy you DD, but enjoyed your pictures. I know you had a great time. BTW did you happen to see Chauncey anywhere? I noticed the cat ;)
Now, didn't Monty tell you to wear a raincoat with a warm liner? And you were in Manhattan, that's not really large.
DD Looks like you had a fine time. Come back soon.
Thanks for posting the pix, and a great variety it was--the remains of a good meal, the bar interiors, Times Square, the Algonquin Cat (and your remarks about the empty - then full - lobby).
We used to always stay at the Algonquin on trips to NYC. Had drinks once or twice in the Bar (but it's small, and was usually hard to get into -- particularly if Bobby Short was playing there). Drinks in the lobby there before or after seeing a Broadway play was a favorite thing to do. Once, coming down from our room to the Lobby, the elevavator stopped (it was a small, "old-fashioned" one), and we got on to see it was occupied by a lone woman. It happened to be Gena Rowlands, and we had just seen her the night before in "Long Day's Jouney Into Night!"
One more comment about your pix: one of my favorites was the street scene with the 2 limos crunched against each other -- and your story of the fist fight -- how priceless, and how "New York!"
Again, thanks for sharing...it brought back some good personal memories...and I'll go back to your pix again when I want to get inspired.
Opps! My 'traveling guy' just corrected me! It was Collen Dewhurst we saw (who had just been in LDJITN with Jason Robards) -- not Gena Rowlands!
How could I make such a mistake? Oh, I know. My memory.
