Earlier episode foreshadows that show up in episode 13
Now that I've had time to digest, there are some connections in episode 13 that have been foreshadowed in earlier episodes.
Episode 3.2 Love Among The Ruins:
When various characters talk about the destruction of Penn Station and the construction of Madison Square Garden, it parallels the destruction of Sterling Cooper and the birth of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.
Episode 3.3 my old Kentucky home:
In the last shot, you see Betty and Don kissing. The shot is lit so low that don disappears in the shadows to Betty's white dress. This might symbolize Don not being apart of Betty's life any more.
And of course Grappa Gene saying, " all hell is going to break loose" after Sally read some of the book, Decline And Fall Of The Roman Empire".
Episode 3.4 The Arrangements:
When Don breaks the ant farm. The same ant farm that Hooker is looking at when in an earlier episode he says, "This place is a gynocracy". This could symbolize the destruction of Sterling Cooper by Sterling, Cooper, Draper and Pryce.
Episode 3.5 The Fog:
When Betty is being rolled down the hospital runway. As she starts to hallucinate, she looks back and sees Don Disappear. Again this can symbolize Don no longer being in Betty's life.
Episode 3.6 Guy walks Into An Advertising Agency:
When Pryce receives a taxidermy cobra snake in a basket as a gift from P.P.& L., that can symbolize him getting bit by P.P.& L. when P.P.& L. and S.C. is sold all together by another company.
If you can think of any more, let me know.

Awesome points! Thank you for posting these. They're great. I'll have to scan through the episodes and see what I can find.
In one earlier episode we saw Don getting into his car and driving away from his house. Right then and there, Marcia turned to me and said, "The writers are telling us Don will soon be moving out."
And how about that telltale scene where Don is shaving in his bathroom! We all knew immediately that Sterling Cooper was getting sold to McCann-Erickson, the agency for Gillette at that time.
Then there's the subtle clue embodied in Don's comment that he's going into Suzanne's bedroom to lie down. Obviously meaning Sterling Cooper would soon be going to the mattresses.
How about in "My Old Kentucky Home" when Henry Francis asked to touch Betty's pregnant belly....did anyone suspect the two of them would be flying off to Reno together with that same baby by the end of the season?
This one's from season two, so it's less foreshadowing than repeating previous imagery. Remember the scene in the bedroom when Betty and Don pushed each other? This season, when Don confronted Betty about Henry--in the same spot in their bedroom--he pushed her again. But this time, she didn't push him back. She didn't have to, because she had one up on Don. Instead, she quietly picked up the baby, determined to move forward in her life.
Also, their positions were reversed: Betty on the left and Don on the right this time.
The cobra in the basket "gift" should have been a big heads up to Pryce of what snakes he was dealing with - later revealed in the last two episodes.
Mynose, it was obvious too when Don kept calling Betty "Bets" that she would end up in Reno. :)
Many people remarked that the "Bye Bye Birdie" song was a foreshadowing of Betty leaving Don. They were right!
In the episode where Paul brought forth his member at his desk, the janitor was named Achilles. We knew instantly that Don's Dick past would come to be his Achilles heel.
Peggy only takes life changing advise when someone is talking to her in her apartment - Bobbie giving her advise after the car accident - Kurt finally getting her to cut off her ponytail - Don telling her he needs her talents in his new business.
Adamx6000...Great points re these subtle connections! I loved the one about the Ant Farm...I thought of ants running about and the scene of confusion when everyone shows up to work at SCoo and finds the remains of the complete upheaval.
Hi Auburn.. re the "snake in a basket"... I could almost wish that Layne would pack it up and send it to SinJin.. but that might be too petty. Still....
Drink&Smoke... nice points about Peggy! Oh, and kudos on your avatar... so perfect for the time!
Every episode for three years has opened with animation of Don plummeting down the side of the office building. The only questions are: 1) When will we see that in live action? 2) Does he jump or is he pushed? 3) If he's pushed, does Peggy get his job?
Thinking about it, the comment regarding the Patio Cola commercial said it all, didn't it? "It's not Ann Margaret" is the conclusion of why it failed.
And in the end, Don's marriage fails because he's not the real thing, just pretending to be. And the British version of SC fails because it's not the real thing. If Ann Margaret is what you're after, that's what you're after and no matter how good the copy, it won't do. The diet soda is still a diet soda.
@Thirteen
@Fifty Two
Great points on the Patio Cola commercial. I never thought of looking at that for deeper meaning. To me I can see how that song can be symbolic for the theme of change that MW had weaving in and out of every episode this season. Especially when Ann Margaret sings, "why did you have to go". It feels so nostalgic. Like she is saying, why did you have to go Kennedy, Elvis and 1963.
@Zelrelda-"when Henry Francis asked to touch Betty's pregnant belly"
There was something very intrusive about that. I can now see how that can be viewed as a foreshadow
@Gwen- Very perceptive on the repeating imagery of the fight scene.
I love how a Mad Men episode is cryptic and artsy enough to be a rorschach to anyone who sees. Therefore everybody will see an episode a little different. Thanks for everybody's feedback. If you think of anything else, Please
Did anyone else notice that the ugly plaid wallpaper in the Draper's kitchen is also in the room where Don/Dick is born?
mynose -
Everyone supposes it's supposed to be Don but there was an early thought that the falling man was supposed to be Harry. Before he started up the TV department he was very, very unhappy, especially after he found out how much more Ken was making than he was. But during S1 he had enough positive response he didn't make the big jump.
BTW, congratulations to everyone who caught "Bye, Bye, Birdie," was a foreshadowing of Betty leaving. As against Don leaving.
The obscure threads that run through the series are incredible.
