Did You Cheer When Joan Arrived to Save the Day

I did! Even knowing that's who Roget called and that she'd be appearing, I still cheered. It was like the cavalry had arrived, or a superhero. Joan to save the day and tell them where everything is so they can steal it ;-D

SuperJoan! Love her love her love her!

I missed her greatly and was so glad to see her. When Roger said he was calling someone, I hoped it would be "Red" and it was!

She'll whip that fledgling Sterling Cooper Draper and Pryce right into shape in no time!

Now if that sorry shit-ass of a "husband" of hers would just die...............

OMG! I applauded for real! The only thing missing was her in a Wonder Woman costume; or in her case, Red Sonja! Joannie rocks!!!!

Now just bring Freddy Rumsfield back, too. I'm sure he has dried out by now.

I was sooo happy to see Joan I could have cried!! Love her and happy to see she's back.

No. To trite, predictable and sappy. She SHOULD have been the first one they called. They didn't to make it more dramatic. Her entrance was silly, really.

Great episode, though.

Flower Power:

It's Rumsen. Freddie Rumsen, not Rumsfield.

Love Joan and all, but you have a point NYCguy. It was very predictable, and I almost expected everybody to break out singin' and dancin' like one of those Broadway musicals --"How to Suceed", or "I can get it for you wholesale". Or for "Strike up the Band" to start playing when they all were parading out with their boxes.

:-P

The show can't win. When it's unpredictable it's called boring or jumping the shark. When it is predictable, it's called a Broadway musical. Some sort of romantic or domestic complication comes up and it's called a soap opera meaning it's done something bad (even if didn't come close to doing what soap operas really and usually do), or it isn't a soap opera in romance or plot and that's bad because someone wants the story to go in the direction a soap opera would.

As I said, yes, I saw Joan coming--a mile away. And I still cheered. There are times when you need those moments in stories, just like in the old movies with the cavalry coming over the hill or the superhero arriving to save the day. Sometimes that's what the story calls for, that's what it needs, and that's what works.

So hey, I asked, and you answered, nor harm, no foul. But my personal feeling is that you're wrong. It was the right move. The prefect move at the perfect moment. And I'm glad, glad, glad, deliriously glad they did it that way. I wouldn't have it any other way, and I've no complaints about Joan appearing then and there and in that way.

Bravo, MadMen. It was an awesome moment :-D

I agree totally FlowerP, and Freddie may have learned some new tunes, maybe Canon in D(sp?) Almost every successful business has a Joan!

Thirteen there were moments to cheer in the finale. That particular one didn't do it for me. Doesn't make me wrong and you right. We just reacted differently. Nothing wrong with that.

But here are my reasons why I thought Joanie's bit in that scene could have been a little better: It was somewhat anti-climatic (to me) to hear Joan ticking off "answers" to the more mundane logistics of moving the office. (Where the film is, where the client production sheets are, etc., etc.). To me it would have been more cool and more Joan-like if she had just walked in and said something like: "Boys, I've got it covered. I'll see you at The Pierre."

Once they were "in" at The Pierre, I loved Joan's returning to form, and laying down her commands in her sweet, authoritative manner:

"There will be no client meetings here. I don't want to see them in the bar or in the lobby...,etc"

But hey, my critique was offerred primarily in fun. I think some minor nitpiking is always in order -- if for no other reason than to prevent serious contrarian backlash and keep discussions interesting. Sort of the theory of that old wisdom: develop an annoying, but minor, trait so that when people talk about you behind your back they'll stop at that --and never get to your major character flaws. (ha)

I know I'm a touch off topic, but I don't know when I missed this: what IS Joan wearing on that chain around her gorgeous neck? Key to the ladies room? Cocaine? A vial of Roger's blood?
