SEASON 4 WISH LIST
Everybody would appreciate if for Peggy to be dropped from the show between seasons. No cause to explain her absence of kill off the character. Just let her be gone bye-bye. The Peggy character was an attempt which has failed. Don, upwardly mobile spawn of a trailertrash redneck and a gas-station hooker, wishes to mock Sterling Cooper by infiltrating a fellow low-class, uneducated pretender. He chooses Peggy because she personifies the downscale prole -- bluecollar urban high school, un-stylisn clothes and shoes, home-perm hair, drugstore makeup, slightly lumpen physique. The casting and wardrobe may have worked all too well. Peggy remains ineffably outerborough, eternally secretarial. She belongs in that huge windowless clerical corral so superbly presented by Mike Nichols in "Working Girl." Or waiting on the counter at Guido's All-Night Diner. But never in a window office in Midtown. Just go back across that Brooklyn Bridge, Peggy. The harder you try, the more incongruous you are.

I guess you are just trying to stir up comment, because you can't be serious. Peggy is a huge part of the whole Sterling Cooper story, and it is the story of Sterling Cooper, even though the writers seem to concentrate on Don Draper a good portion of the time. It wouldn't be Mad Men without Peggy.
As much as Peggy wants to be, proclaims to be, "one of those girls" she is just not pulling it off. She does scream "secretarial pool". I guess she can stick around though, just so we can see who she sleeps with.
I have to admit though that if she was pulled off the show, I wouldn't really miss her. Plenty of other interesting characters. So many, in fact, that they can't develop all of them.
Maybe you should become a writer and write your own show.
Isn't she 2nd in the credits, right after Jon? I believe that she is a lead character. Unless she gets prego in real life, I doubt that they will dump her. I hate to be vague, there is no way that they will let her go-bet? Are Sal's credits off? Didn't notice, never liked his character.
@MyNose: A little advice When posting, never presume what "everybody wants" or "everybody likes" or "nobody wants". Not everyone feels as you do. There are a huge number of Peggy fans here.
It's like all those who think Obama walks on water. They forget that 59million voters didn't vote for him, and half of those who did wish they didn't.
No doubt there are blue collar series where the bling-deprived Peggy would appear right at home: waiting with her token ready for the New York Transit bus: brown-bagging her blintzes; shopping for outfits at Goodwill. But on Mad Men, at the glamourous Sterling Cooper, she should arrive at 6:00pm with her cart to start emptying the wastebaskets. Don't get me wrong. I don't despise such coarse peasants; I just recoil ar seeing them where they clearly don't belong.
@Laurie B: To quote you, "A little advice when posting..."
It's been mentioned by one of the moderators that political views, unless totally relevant, are not constructive on the Mad Men Talk blog. Your observation about Peggy regarding what "everybody likes" was relevant. Your Obama comment was not.
...5,4,3,2,1...
Laurie B, you should heed your own advice. "Not everyone feels as you do" and " how do you know that 59 mil. voters didn't vote for him and half of those who did wish they didn't.." Too much Glenn Beck maybe huh.... I do like Peggy in the office and her private life....
Laurie....alone in the wilderness? Nope, here I be.
Yes, political comments are off-topic...but, what you said is true.
Liberals, moderates (me) and conservatives....all are represented on the forum.
Hi Milly , EXACTLY !!!!
Agree with nose. Peggy should just disappear.
All you anti Peggy fans must either be men or women who are too young to have experienced what it was like for us women in the work force in the 60's. It was women like Peggy that made it possible for you to have the choices you have today. Looks and dress has very little to do with the Peggy character and what she represents. The show would be missing a hugh part of history without her.
60s child , Your absolutely right. Women today do have these choices because of Peggy like characters of the 60s. They were non conformist's ," ban the bra" etc. Good post 60s child.
the actress Elizabeth Moss just got married in real life to Fred Amison (SNL) so she might make a cameo on the show and he might have one on Mad Men ... I think they make such a cute couple and I just love him on SNL and I love her character on MM
rats .... I knew I would have a double post .... sorry :)
I think Peggy is a very interesting character - my only complaint is how little we've been seeing of her. Seems like that might change in this next episode, although I think they've waited too long to get back to what's going on between her and Duck. Sigh, evidently I'm alone in being bored with the Draper family (and yes, I loved the last two episodes - but really, would YOU rather watch cheesy scenes with Ms. Farrell over any scene with Pete and Peggy, Roger and Joan, Paul and Harry, etc etc?). I'll just have to accept it and hope for a less Betty/Don/Sally-centric season 4.
And fyi, Laurie B (since you started the politics thing) - I'm an Obama voter and while I'm not 100% happy with all his decisions, I don't regret my vote at all (especially considering what the alternative was) :) So yup, all sorts on this forum!
Giantsfan21 Your last paragraph.... Spot On !!
Peggy is my favorite character. Lest we forget she can't afford to have her hair done professionally or buy the most fashionable clothes. Peggy is barely making more than her secretary. The last time she asked to be paid the same as the other copy-writers Don shot her down. So, if you think Peggy is peasant-like its probably because she's paid like one, and, historically, women like Peggy would be underpaid for decades to come. Sure, Joan dressed great, but a lot of the perks she got weren't about succeeding at the office but about succeeding in seduction. I definitely respect Peggy more than I do Joan. Peggy is forging ahead with little education and a lot of ambition, determination and grit. Tell me mynose, are you one of those people who expect everyone to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" and then resent them for doing so? I'm anxious to see what the writers (MW) will do with Peggy.
@Giantsfan21: Your last paragraph--me too!
@zerelda: No one would miss Peggy. After 2 shows even her hardcore fans would forget her.
Loves , I think your wrong about Peggy. But if you left here no one would miss you thats for sure !
I think Peggy represents the future for women. She is great for the show. Always surprising (re Duck).
Laurie B. I second some others motion that you please keep politics out of your posts.
Cheers
Mynose, You've chosen a very appropriate name since it seems that is what you look down on people from. If you watch the show you would have seen how many of Peggy's ideas have made it to print. The lipstick ad, Aqua Net, Western Union are just a few off the top of my head. Some of the other guys are actually jealous of her. To say that she doesnt deserve her position and belongs in the secretarial pool because of her upbringing is absurd.
.
like her or not
peggy is the one character that has grown the most.
just think of her in the first episode and the last, mr s asks for coffee and she says no.
