Posting to Open Thread
A number of you have noticed that it appears as if the open threads are controlled by a handful of people who feel as if they own the board. I've noticed people getting scolded becuz they used all caps, didn't use the correct punctuation, so forth and so on. I was jumped on by one user because i mentioned you can buy a pen like Joans from Marshall House inc.com. It's so terrible that most of the posts by these few are more like a chat room rather than discussing the show. Just remember Madmen is just a television show, it's NOT REAL, the characters are not real, they only play the role of the characters on TV.. So get a grip, and you all know who I am referring to. REally its ok IF SOMEONE USES ALL CAPS OR doesnt use the correct punctuation, life goes on. Lets get back to discussing the show and our views and guessing what's going to happen next. If a person missed something in an episode or was trying to catch up on missed episodes, people use to write in to catch you up to speed on the happenings. Now if you do so, you barely get a response and sometimes the response is one of "how dare you". LIghten up people, get a grip on reality. WAke up again it's only tv. I've found other madmen sights to be better engaging, and the discussions were on a different level, just better overall. It's pathetic that a handful of users find themselves bullying a message board. We are all s act like it.

I'm with you! There are quite a few wonderful posters on these boards, who really are fun to chat with. (I'd list them, but I'm afraid I'll leave some out and hurt their feelings--I think most of them will know it's them I'm talking about though). But there are also a small but loud crowd of trolls and otherwise rude posters who have only this board as a way to feel powerful. And they definitely know who they are! And very oddly, are proud of being so mean--who would think that is something to be proud of, huh?
I know! It's incredible. Well...once again...life is just and extension of HighSchool...with money!!!
Agreed. There are a few posters who have WAY too much time on their hands! I barely have time to read the posts, much less comment on them.
But there are so many funny and insightful ones, I’ll ignore the trolls.
oops, typo...AN extension of HighSchool!
Hi creolegal!
Sorry for any problems you have had with some of the posters on this Forum.
You're not alone.
Betty Crocker, katie, and Pink63 are right.
All I can add is hang in there!
@betty: I think you're off your crocker.
@creole: What other boards? Do you have their links? Better yet, will you share them?
See, my point exactly...
Creole--don't give the links here if you want those places to remain relatively troll and hostility free. Seriously.
Who's being a bully? I don't know why you are having problems---so people comment on basic internet courtesy, like people shouting by using ALL CAPS---, or misspellings. That's typical in real life and any board. The site has an automatic spell check but I guess some don't care. I do; I correct the spelling and try to form intelligent sentences. I appreciate when others do too because it creates a nice level of conversation and discussion of ideas when people care.
The real problem people are TROLLS and not enough people ignore them because it's hard when they feel they're being personally attacked (which it isn't, the troll will do whatever pathetic thing to engage anyone).
When someone attacks other posters-- like the one poster above attempting to entice Betty Crocker-- by saying BS-- That's pathetic. And, B.C. is right, if you share links to trolls they jump all over the place.
I don't think the open threads are "owned" by anyone. What do you want, applause for every comment? If you want to have someone notice something you wrote, then write something to notice. I've gone over your history and I see that you posted a thread where you asked a question and received 12 thoughtful replies. How much more do you want? Btw, a thank you would have been nice to give those 12 posters. I must add that I was not among the twelve.
I've been here for 10 weeks now and only once have I seen someone comment re: punctuation. As for being chided about the pen, it was me who said you sounded like an advertisement. See below.

Pen necklace
I love the pen necklace Joan wears on the show. Anyone interested in a necklace can go to marshallhouseinc.com for a variety of styles to choose from for about $20 - $24. they are gorgeous, I wear mine in the office daily and have received many compiments on it. I searched for the pen necklace tirelssly on the internet but did not like the quality or look of the one at 1928, i fortunately came across the marshall house website and am so happy i looked into it.

@Creolegal:
"Your comment sounds like an advertisement."

I was concerned that you were being deceptive and that you were actually advertising; pretending to be an uninterested party. Advertising is against the rules. (Two months ago it seemed like there were rules. Now, obviously, there are none.) And I also considered it disrespectful to the posters here to be deceptive. Whether you were advertising or not, being deceptive or not, I think my comment was perfectly fair. Even as I re-read your comment - it does indeed sound just like an advertisment. And if it isn't, why are you being so defensive?
