November 22, 1963 - How will they handle it? Thougts

The dreadful and tragic day still fresh and unhealed in our collective national heart is swiftly approaching our As our unsuspecting Mad Men characters go about their daily (and nightly) business. How deftly will Weiner handle this topic considering most scenarios are predictable and cliché. It obviously has been reserved for the final episode of season 3 or has it? Roger's daugther's wedding is scheduled for 11-23-63 which leads me to believe a juxtaposition of a wedding and a funeral ( but not in the Michael Corleone sense). I'm wondering if it will be addressed in episode 1 of season 4 instead.

I noticed that John Slattery was dressed in a morning suit and boutonierre (sp?) during the "Inside Episode 311" video so I guess they've already filmed it?

"Thoughts" Sorry. It is strange to type when there is heavy AMC madmen blog traffic there is a 30 second delay before the letters appear ?????

All the episodes are finished.

I think we will only see the aftermath 24 hours after the assassination, not the assassination.

Kennedy was shot at 1:30PM EST on a Friday.

On MM, someone will be listening to the radio and hear the news, shortly after it is reported. Peggy will be devastated; Roger will make a flippant remark about the affect on his daughter's wedding; there will be lots of crying. Someone will say it was the Russians, and war is imminent. Everyone will be watching Chet Huntly or more likely Walter Cronkite and see the announcement at 2:45 that the President is dead. Close ups of Roger, Peggy, Bert, and lastly Don. fade to black.

This will comprise that last 25-50% of the episode. I don't think it will be more on an event than I've described. Matt Wiener has said the true turning point of the 60's was the Cuban Missile Crisis, not the Kennedy Assassination. Therefore it will be treated as a sad event, not a critical period in history nor a critical period in Mad Men.

Next season will begin on Feb 9, 1964 with Sally watching the Ed Sullivan show.

Fred , Matt Weiner said," Cuban Missile Crisis" maybe for him he's a bit older.I think for most of us it was the BEATLES on the Sullivan show. Yeah Yeah Yeah.......

485 madison and Fred have good points. "Peggy will be devastated; Roger will make a flippant remark about the affect on his daughter's wedding; there will be lots of crying. Someone will say it was the Russians, and war is imminent" I'm thinking that I'm finding myself looking more and more forward to how it will be handled byt MW. The Kennedy Assasination has been a subtly growing tensile thread through the narrative of the entire season but it seems there is no good way to approach it. I think that it will have to be as Fred2 said a sort of backdrop to the story but with the characters so heavily involved in their own lives I can't see it being more than that, and yes it has to happen in the first 5 minutes or the last 5. And if in the first five we will catch the action after the fact mid crisis. Perhaps season four opening with the Beatles Feb 9, 1964. But I think that would be a bit too "Wonder Years" .
