Lois

I know she is a minor character in the grand scheme of all things Mad Men, but Lois is a favorite of mine, and wasn't I glad to see her last night! Apparently she is still secretary to Paul, and jeez, Louise, let us hope she is not privy to ALL his little routines around the office. Did it appear to anyone else that Lois seemed just a tad not quite with it? Of course, shredding a man's foot with a riding lawn mower would be quite sufficient to rattle anyone, and it appeared to me that Lois has not fully recovered from that experience. I am so glad she did not get fired, but I bet she stays in the background when St. John Powell and his creepy henchman come by the office during the 40th anniversary celebration.

Paul must still feel some loyalty to Lois for her telling him about the PPL merger before it was made public. That was a big deal and I'm glad to see he appreciated her help there. I was rather surprised to see her still at SC after the foot incident though. Wouldn't they almost have to fire *someone* for a colossal mishap like that? It'd be either her or Ken or both, wouldn't it? They've certainly fired people for much less, like Sal. Lois is a total space cadet (I say that affectionately) but she means well. She adds a lot of welcome humor to the show.

...I like her too, z....always so funny to me when people say "it's always in the last place you look" (as Lois said to Paul)...of COURSE it is....when you find "it", you stop looking!

Lois.....gotta love her.

I like her, too, and I thought her part in the telephone call to Peggy about the roommate situation was a "hoot and a half"!

I thought for sure Lois would have gotten the axe...but thankfully not. She returns to ruin somone else's day...or life. LOL! I loved her advice: "My mother always said....retrace your steps". ( I sound like her mother all the time but, like Paul, no one seems to listen).

Too bad she did'n't run Paul's uppity head over. He treats her like dirt. I hope she beats him up and then quits.

I don't understand why Mad Men has to have a bufffoon as a secretary. There are enough clowns in that office already.

Lois is a survivor of the office wars. The kind of person who can walk through a battlefield, shoot and never get shot. Like Robert Duvall's air cavalry Major Kilgore in Apocalypse Now. Lois has had her ups and downs but is still in the game.

Although I am now rivited whenever there's a scene with Lois, I, too, wonder how she escaped being let go. It just doesn't ring true that she's right back in the office, carrying on per usual. Wouldn't she have been traumatized and required some counseling or something? Or is she just so "dumb and pure" that the thought of her own gross negligence resulting in life-changing injury to another person just doesn't cross her mind?

DanDraperEsq: Where are you? Would like your input on this...or any other legal liability expert around. The only thing I can think of is that the "injured party" is the same as the "offending party" -- i.e. both are PPL/SC employees....so no lawsuit. And it would be useless to sue Lois as an individual -- she's got no money. And they're certainly not about to sue their client.

My only guess is that Lois either "has something" on SC, or she's tearfully begged to keep her job and SC's taken pity.

Let's see. Would Roger (who she put firmly back onto the org chart) fire her? No.

Would Lane (who otherwise woulde have been shipped off to Bombay as a "reward" for good service) fire her? No.

Bert? No, he's above that sort of thing.

Certainly not Don who didn't get the cross-Atlantic posting.

Answer: Nobody wanted to fire her.

When questioned about his attendance, contrary to Bert's assumption, I think Lois could have been the one whom spilled the beans to Lane, not necessarily Roger, as Bert assumed. Lois volunteered to find out the scoop on Lane's wife for Don, remember. She is the one whom lets everyone know what everyone else is doing, like the teachers pet in grade school, down to her outfits.

that is what I am finding frustrating about the way they are doing this show ... each episodes just ends with no continuation ... it just doesn't flow ...maybe with the success they don't care

Seems to me it would have been an automatic firing -- that PPL would have just told Lane Pryce (that same day!) to quietly work out a severance package for her--with the understanding that she was never seen in the building again!

Of course, maybe PPL folks are a bit "dense" regarding personnel matters. Makes me think of their remark to Joan" "We'll take care of the cleaning bill." (My reaction to that was : Well....Duh...gee thanks).

It was Allison who told Don she'd find out why Pryce's wife was visiting. He told her to forget it.
