IT'S TIME FOR BETTY'S MISDEEDS TO BE AIRED

I read about all of the sympathy for Betty on this message board. Let's not forget that she had her affairs as well. And I do mean that in plural. Kissing another man counts as infidelity in my eyes. Don is walking around thinking he has this innocent child-like woman at home raising his children, when Betty has such a devious, hidden side. I will never forget how she set up her friend to have an affair. She has her good moments, but Don needs to know that he isn't the only one that has disrespected their marriage. After watching the last episode, I was shocked how cold and unaffectionate she was when Don was crying. What woman who loves her man wouldn't reach for him and hold him in her arms. That was Don in his weakest moment and all she could do was lay a hand on his shoulder like a distant stranger. This marriage is as empty as it can be with two self absorbed characters. I like the new storyline with Roger and Annabelle a lot more than watching Don and Betty fake their marriage.

Manhattangirl36, your absolutely right.Betty was no angel. But she prolly didn't show more affection because she thought about herself at that moment. But I also feel that she only had her indiscretions, because she thought ,"what am I missing" Otherwise I don't think Betty would of had her touchy feely moments.....

Betty is a freak!
These things are exciting in a marriage.
If you do the mess around on each other
that is what makes the whole marriage thing
exciting.
Marriage is the death-bed of love.

Manhatten+Christopher - I respectfully disagree. Betty felt was shocked, bewildered, and betrayed going into the confrontation. She had strongly considered divorcing him, and she apparently dropped this for some silly reasons: she's not afraid of him (i.e. he doesn't hit her), he's a good provider, and she might lose the kids (please! the kids always went to the mother in those days). You're expecting a lot of her if you think it's realistic for these bad feelings to dissipate as soon as she see's Don cry. My goodness, this was a side of Don she had clearly never seen before, reinforcing the bewilderment of "who IS this guy, Dick Whitman?"

There's a decent chance that after reflection, she will accept Don/Dick and the weird feelings will fade. But give her a break - the situation was traumatic.

Fred yeah hi, I totally agree with you it was traumatic for Betts. But when she told her lawyer that he cheats but he's a good provider she already knew he was on the hunt. But what really got her was the money the deed to the house in California, the identity and the other woman/marriage. She was completely clueless about all that. She never had time to digest anything but his indiscretions. Upon finding the desk drawer contents that what she really freaked out about.. Just my 2 cents....

The desk drawer contents were exactly what I meant. I believe she's intentionally unaware of the current cheating. Based on his past infidelity, she really should be suspicious of his "overnight meetings" with Connie, but she chooses to "trust" Don. It makes life easier.

So I set the cheating aside completely. Yes, she's digested that and already crapped it out. The betrayal I was referring to was that he lied to her about who he is, and never told her he'd been married before. That's huge, and (unlike cheating) so very out of the ordinary.

My mom was in a similar situation and was told the same thing from a lawyer. Not sure about the kids part but basically was told divorcing would be far worse for her. I think divorce is still very bad for women and still many women end up poor--the pink ghetto but it must have been next to impossible in the 60s.

I thought Betty was unbelievably compassionate with Don. After all the cheating to have found out he was a total fraud and liar--at that time this would have been bombshell revelation. To me he was definitely considering running out to the car. I totally agree that Betty was totally traumatized and I thought she must truly love him from her soul to have felt such compassion at his explanation. I was impressed that she kept it together and addressed all that she found in Pandora's box.

Yes Betty has had her brief dalliances but I agree with some other posters that it seemed to me she was trying out what her husband has been doing and so far it looks like it does not work for her.

I have said elsewhere that I now think they are doomed because I don't think Don will be able to stand that Betty knows -- I think he will think she now has some control or power over him and will feel boxed or trapped.

I am hoping Betty breaks although it would be very difficult given the divorce situation and the fact that she does love him.
