Here's a fun little ditty for all us who recall the lame (but fun!) monster movies from our youth! I especailly love the clip of the poor guy with the eye growing on his shoulder! God, we were gullible....
I loved, loved, loved Mystery Science Theater....especially the early episodes with Joel Hodgson....he was my favorite. Would love to watch that show again....soooooo funny.
I work with a company called Mysteries For Hire, doing improv murder mystery gigs. It's run by my very good friend Jeremy, and his wife, Mary. I love them both, and they are talented, wonderful friends, too. At the murder mystery gigs, we are given an idea of what our character is ahead of time, but it isn't until we're all there that we understand what our motive is, what drives our character, etc. We know who's going to be killed, but none of us know who-dun-it until after the 2nd course has been served (that's only if I were the killer, would I know who dun it), and the attendees get to know all the characters a bit better. I had NO idea who killed the victim, not even until they were revealed last night, which is the perk, no having been tapped as the killer. No one knew, but the killer themselves :-)
Last night, my guy Craig and I did a gig in Groveland, California with Mysteries For Hire, and I played Thelma: a hapless hillbilly who was kissing cousins with Jeeter: he's my cousin on my Mamma's side and my brother on my Daddy's side :-) I was 9 months preggers, and I was on the hunt for my baby daddy at the party :-) It was WAY too much fun, and it was the best house I'd played to yet. It was a memorable Halloween, and I hope everyone had just as good of a time! If I hadn't have done the murder mystery gig, I would've done a scary movie marathon of the classics (Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, etc), or gone to a party.
I LOVE Mystery Science Theater too! Gosh, I haven't seen one of those since college. But they are really fun, and really, really hilarious!
Stagekiss, your Mysteries gigs sound fun....Thelma and Jeeter, huh? Sounds like something I'd make up! (referring to an old thread back in the off season, when we were cutting up hillbilly style)
Yes! !!! Are you kidding, 60's?? I adored Mystery Science Theater! I just went over to YouTube and looked at a few of their classic clips....Long live Tom Servo!! (he's the robot made from dryer vent hoses? for arms and a gumball machine for a head!)....so funny. This site is acting up today or I'd post a few of those links....but, you guys know where to find them...I recently found a link one time to a site where this guy actually built a Tom Servo replica....cool. He even had a materials list!
Anyone remember the old 50's (horror?) flick with the woman's head on the tray in the lab all wrapped up in bandages and hooked up to tubes, and talking to everyone?! I also loved the Killer Shrews! "Plan 9 from Outer Space" is another classic hilarious stinker!
That "Night of the Living Dead" marathon was something else for sure....Bar-bar-a's brother was a Buddy Holly clone, I think. I think MST did a spoof on that movie once, no? Well, that's one you don't want to watch while eating dinner, huh? Meat hooks, guts, seepage of body fluids, etc. Dreadful....
@60's child- This is off topic but...love your avatar! When we were little we would get so excited to see the Charlie Brown shows coming on. We knew Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas were just around the corner. That was our cue to start behaving so Santa would have us on the Good List.
Then when we saw Santa on the Norelco shaver sliding down the snow -covered hill.....ahhh...MEMORIES. Every time I see your avatar it reminds me of that! Thanks!!!
60's child, here are some creative pumpkin designs to look at while you're waiting for Mad Men. Do you know what the Great Pumpkin is supposed to do besides just appear?

Hi A-line!
Thank you for the links!
Yes, the Great Pumpkin is supposed to bring gifts to all the good children around the world.
And, will only appear in the most sincere pumpkin patch!
Hi again A-line!
I just realized the link you gave me was to The Times Union!
I'm originally from the Capitol District! What a small world!
Let's hope it appears to our favorite cast of characters...
What a coincidence! Well, they say there's no such thing as a coincidence.
And back at ya, 60's, ol' bud! BOOOOOOO!

Hi SC!
I spent yesterday watching some of the cheesiest 60s horror flicks!! I love them. There was also a "Night Of The Living Dead" marathon on.
Have you ever watch "Mystery Science Theater"?
The movies they spoof are right out of the 50s and 60s drive in type.
P.S. The Great Pumpkin didn't show again...I'm bummed!
Hi A-line!
I can't even spell the part of NY I'm from...that's
Capital District. Oh well, thanks for the "Times Union" link again!

Hi Zerelda and Stagekiss!
It's nice to know there are other Mystery Science/Maddict fans out there! We do share the same great tastes in drama and comedy!
My favorite cheesy horror flick that they parodied was called "Devil Doll". Right up there with "The Brain"!!
Stagekiss, what a great way to spend Halloween!
And, I am enjoying your posts about your casting calls. How exciting!! I can't even imagine being an actor, can't wait to hear your next post!!

Now, why couldn't there have been a marathon of that one yesterday?
oh well....
