Haloweening 1960's style.

I grew up in the early 1960's and was Sally's age in 1963. It was a small town to be sure, but PARENTS were never along for Halloween! We travelled to three or four streets other than our own. Always looking for the house that gave the best candy.
But parents? No way ,they would only cramp our style! I realize the world was safer back then But MM is set during this time and I just thought Don and Betty going with the kids was not keeping with the realism. At least that was my experience as a kid. I can even remember what I wore in '63. It was a Cleopatra costime with a mask that looked like Elizabeth Taylor! That movie was big that year. I'd love to hear from all the talented posters...your thoughts/comments/memories.
And...HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Yes. It would have been totally bizarre to have parents along. Nobody even thought about safety as our little ones scampered around the neighborhood at 10:00 p.m.in masks and dragging costumes. We know all the neighbors, don't we?

For this reason, among others, Halloween ruled!

what age is Sally ??? would she be 12?

Halloween was fun and we would go with our friends.

I did take my own kids Trick or Treating but it was a different world during their childhood.

Nope, no parents along in my day either.

And I can even recall when, in addition to wrapped "store bought" candy or gum, we'd get a lot of homemade (delicious) treats: candy apples, popcorn balls, fudge or other home cooked candies, cookies, just goodies that the neighbor moms would make themselves. You'd usually eat any cookies as you made your rounds because they might get crushed in your pillowcase full of loot (Charlie Brown!)

And, as another poster on another thread has mentioned, you difinitely used a pillowcase and not a bag, so there'd be no bottom to fall out and the precious goods be lost!

Yes, everyone knew the neighbors and only went about four or five blocks around, so it was considered safe....believe it or not!
