Don is starting to bore me.
Does anyone else out there think that Don's character's becoming a bit predictable? Studly at work, studly with the ladies, and chronically unfaithful. I used to think his character was interesting and charismatic, but not so much anymore. I still love the show, but there are other characters I prefer.

Ok, I know I am a woman, so maybe I don't understand, but what the hell does he want? He begged Betty to take him back, then immediately goes back to other women & makes NO effort to improve anything at home. I have trouble sympathizing with this guy.
Because Betty is soooooooooooooo cold. Takes her to Rome, she's still pissed. Was good all through pregnancy, she's still pissed. Betty has enough anger for twelve people (I'm not saying unjustified, but damn, you either want him to stay or not, lighten up!). I find it easy to sympathize with Don.
The simple answer of what does Don want: someone new all the time it seems, and something to take him out of his own little spiraling world of secrets...
Zabadu--Remember that we see these two a number of years into their relationship--- a lot of time has gone by and a lot of Don's wandering eye and likely his disappearing act. The entire series Betty is suspicious (because she has good reason to be). Betty knows Don lies to her. She knows about his affairs (we know of at least the one she is certain of) and that something is up about that locked drawer-----
This is all before she gets the big surprise of the UNlocked drawer.
All of that is plenty of reason for Betty's anger. I really don't get the impression she'd be angry otherwise, or at least there isn't any indication. She's cold towards Don because it's pretty obvious that no matter what she does he will not stop being unfaithful to her.
Don always did bore me. I don't like bosses that belittle their employees and I definitely don't like men who cheat on their wives.
Oh yes, Not so much bored but impatient. Don has learned nothing. He seems to be satisfied with being a complete liar. Do you think he will become the hobo/homeless/alcoholic? I do want more focus on the other characters or maybe a two hour show!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot not wait a year to a new season begins - just 3 left.
Some of you people answered my post by complaining about Betty. My post was about Don, not her.
I agree with A-Coop. Complete focus on other characters would be great (as long as it isn't focus on Peter). He annoys me too. :)
Where's Joan?? I miss her.
Annushka, most American women are NOT spoiled and childish. That is ridiculous.
Yes, Betty is spoiled and childish. She is getting the results of the fruits of that childishness. She is a character in an American TV show, she doesn't represent the average American women.
Betty behaving like a child!!!!!!!!! In those days and even in places today a woman went directly from Daddy to Boyfriend to Husband......There was no learning to change tires,kick-box or run for president...
Basket of Kisses's website said it beautifully. I agree completely.
Don doesn’t know why he’s unhappy, why the life he has isn’t satisfying.
But more than that, he has no frickin’ idea why Betty isn’t happy. He gave her everything. A beautiful home, food on the table, children, a maid, beautiful clothes and jewelry. He was a provider, which is what he was taught to be.
And she’s unhappy.
He stopped cheating, swore to himself to “be good,” and he was miserable, and she was just angrier than ever. And finally, he fell off the wagon with Bobbie, and the shit hit the fan. But he came to her, admitted what he’d done, made “the grand gesture,” and she took him back.
And she’s still unhappy.
He has stood by her and been supportive through the pregnancy, made the warm milk, only cheated when he was out of town, took her to Italy, made passionate love in a beautiful city.
And she’s still unhappy.
He’s run dry on her now. He’s got nothing left to give her. We can see, from here, that she wants intimacy and honesty and connection and respect. We can see it (although I’m not sure Betty wants or would accept any of it, to tell you the truth).
But Don can’t see it. He has no idea these are the things that are missing. He has done everything he knows he’s supposed to do, and on paper, he has every reason to believe he will have a happy and satisfied wife and mother to his children.
I think he looks at Betty’s unhappiness and just…nothing. No clue. Nada. No wonder it drives him away.
Zabadu, I love your post! Why do you think that Don can't see what she wants? Why does he have no idea that these things are missing? Why does he want her for a wife when he really doesn't want any real contact with her at all? Their relationship is very frustrating to me.
Don is a real martyr (a person who seeks sympathy or attention by feigning or exaggerating pain, deprivation, etc). "Let me do this for you" he says to Suzanne. He likes to feel all high & mighty, because he is really not a good soul. He's a lying cheat looking for an excuse to excuse his behavior when all along he is just selfish and lacking. I wouldn't kick him out of my bed, but he is a nothing man.
I feel that way about Betty. I think she is overused and boring and steals screentime from the characters I care about. In season 1 and partly season 2 I couldn´t wait for another episode because I wanted to see what happened with the characters. Now, I know I will only see what happens to Betty (and Don, but I still have interest in him) and frankly, it drains my interest a bit. I just don´t care about her anymore.
I know lot of people does. She seems to be a favorite. But for me it becomes a problem when a character are overused.
Maybe I wouldn´t feel so negative about her if they cared to study the other characters as well. Pete have been my favorite from the start and he is reduced to a walking joke. Then he finally has an episode and does something despicable, just to disappear again. Roger just spit out oneliners and them, together with the rest of S&C is almost invincible.
In spite of his many flaws I always liked Don's character in past seasons. Lately he has become fairly unlikable to me. His behavior this season is too self destructive. It feels like he is just acting out like a child to see how far he can get before there are real consequences. Betty isn't the only one in this relationship who is selfish and unwilling to change. Neither of them are ever satisfied with what they have. I'm curious to see if anything ever comes of her discovery in the locked drawer.
I really dislike Don's affair with Miss Farrell. I was surprised when she said his phone service had called for him at her house...not very discreet. She is bad news and the sooner this ends the happier I will be!
