Cute

.....Someone busted Jon last season buying the DVDs, and he was adorable (of course) in saying he was just checking to make sure he "didn't suck."

Jon, man.....don't they GIVE you a set??

And, trust me, I would NEVER have recognized you.

Hamm at Borders on Sunday

One of our spies caught Jon Hamm buying two copies of "Mad Men" on DVD at the Borders on Boylston Street on Sunday. "You've got me in a dork moment," Hamm said, once he realized he'd been spotted buying his own show.

For the record, Hamm said the DVDs were gifts. No word on why he can't get copies of "Mad Men" for free, but we give him credit for stimulating the local economy while he's in the Hub.

Hamm, who plays Don Draper on the AMC hit "Mad Men," is in Boston to co-star in Ben Affleck's bank robber thriller "The Town" based on Chuck Hogan's novel "Prince of Thieves." Hamm plays an FBI agent out to get Affleck and his gang. The cast spent much of last week filming scenes around Fenway Park.

Hamm was also spotted with his longtime girlfriend, "Kissing Jessica Stein" actress Jennifer Westfeldt, at the Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro yesterday.

Hi Dry!

Thanks for the scoop! You would think Jon and cast could get all the free MM shwag they could want!!

I can only pray he is a Red Sox fan if he was filming on Hawkey Way!!

GO SOX!!!!!

.....Jon is from St. Louis, and an admitted huge Cardinals fan. Is it possible to have more than one loyalty?

The hat and glasses were a nice touch, but didn't do much to hide his identity!

user-pic

Oh well...maybe a replay of the Cardinals/Red Sox series??
I know Ben Affleck is a big Sox fan, maybe he can convert him!

Jon Hamm is kind of a dork. I really wouldn't have recognized him, but then again I wouldn't look twice at him. However Jon Hamm as Don Draper, OMG!
Maybe Hamm should have won best actor in a drama........
Very cute story indeed.

Hi Blue Runner!

I disagree, I think Jon Hamm has a "regular dude" quality about him that is so refreshing!!
I hope his star power never changes him!

I wish he had won Best Actor also. But, I have to say Bryan Cranston is amazing in Breaking Bad.
Jon's day will come...

.....Blue Runner, I'll take him either way. The look on his face in this photo cracks me up.

60'schild.....There was a long, interesting radio (sports channel) interview Jon did back in July, I believe, in which he talks extensively about baseball, among many other things. I posted a link to it, but I can't remember the thread title now, except I think kathy, or someone similar, was the author.

As to the Emmy, as much as Bryan deserved it, he also won last year, so I was really hoping Jon would get his chance this year. More for AMC, right?

Hi Dry!
I agree. I was hoping Jon would win this year also. And, of course, I wished Elisabeth Moss had won.
If you remember that thread with Jon from July, I'd love to connect to it.

I'm not one who pines after Don Draper (I don't like the character - Don is cruel, cold and is hardly ever funny) but that picture - oooh! Now that I find irresistible. Must be the glasses. I think Jon is a fabulous actor. I think they gave the Emmy to Bryan Cranston so that it really made a mark, to show it wasn't a fluke. And because this is his time. He may not get another role like this for a long time.

Jon Hamm on the other hand, has movie stardom beckoning. And he is probably going to win the next two or three Emmys in a row. Playing Don Draper requires such subtlety. To think this guy was, until recently, languishing on cops shows on Lifetime!

user-pic

I remember seeing him in Mel Gibson's movie When We Were Soldiers. I noticed him right away, but he was so skinny back then! Glad to see Jon moving up in the ranks! Hope he gets the Emmy next year.

I've seen Jon Hamm on TV talking to the press right before the Emmy's. They were asking him about Sara Sliverman( who I hate) and I didn't even realize it was him.
That guy is doing some serious acting.
I think the kind of man Don Draper is lives only in a females dreams ,with the exception of Clark Gable(or so they say)This unfortunate character trait was the reason being Clark Gable didn't win Oscar for his role as Rhett Butler. They say he wasn't acting.
I could see this being said about Hamm maybe, until you see him as himself.
I'm a big breaking Bad fan and only started watching MM this season. Cranston deserved the Emmy hands down, but the show only has so far it can go. MM I see as a show that could go on for several more seasons. I see Hamm getting his recognition in way as an Emmy win maybe next year. That is if it can be seen the quality he brings to playing such a subtle role.

.....Since Season 1, where I was wowed by the subtle, internal and intelligent acting, I've felt he could carry a feature all by himself. A good one, that is. There is definitely Oscar potential there.

A well-written political mystery-thriller or something similar, maybe.

While any actor is happy to be working, it must have been frustrating to know you are that good, yet constantly working in television character parts and background movie roles.

It's funny how Hollywood seems to be afraid of risks in many cases. It seems typecasting really does exist when you see a guy playing a soldier (or businessman, or psychiatrist) over and over, until the big break.

It's hard to imagine Jon having to audition SEVEN times for this role, when I can't think of a single other actor that could nail it the way he does.

Apparently the critics agree!

user-pic

That's funny. Yeah, I would have thought the cast would be given free copies of the DVDs too.

Oh well...I used to work for a large Oil and Gas company and they didn't give us a break on gasoline.

I guess actors have to buy their own movies too.

:-D
