Betty
So Betty wasn't just sitting with that box and drinking wine. She actually went out and had another set of keys made. I am so proud of her! In the scene where Betty confronted Don, she seemed older to me, more like a grown woman and less like a spoiled daddy's girl. She was truly a woman wondering just who this man is she has suddenly found herself married to. Great job by January Jones.

I totally agree! She handled herself very well. Plus, she was ready for Don's usual fairy tales and steeled herself against that.
Then, Don has to say bye bye (for now!!?? The man never learns!!) to Ms. Farrell....who isn't going to give up that easily (unless this will be another loose string hanging in the wind until next season).
Don has much money in his secret vault and can just take and find new passport for his new name. Wife and mistress can cry for him but he will disappear like brigand and they will have to do work so to buy food and house. If Don come to Moscow he will have much lovers because he be virile adorable man and does not need his Yankee dollar. We have many rich daughter of Oligarth who shower Don with love and rubles if he would be their man.
Z-remind u a little of Rebecca/Mrs. DeWinter's transformation when faced with the horror of truth?
I also loved that intense showdown between man and wife. Great acting on both parts.
i was reminded of how, in the 60's, my own parents used to have regular showdowns at the OK corral like this one.
But midway through, my mother, unlike our Bets, would burst into blubbering, redfaced, copious tears and wracking sobs.... somewhat undermining her mien of toughnesss.
)-:
Oligarth, Mashenka? Is that a mix of an oligarch and Garth Brooks?
I don't think that Betty went out and had another set of keys made. Unless I am missing something, I think she put the keys back in Don's bathrobe pocket, which is where she had found them. She just took the keys back out when she needed them.
Okay, you can all call me a Betty-hater, but what kind of a woman who loves a man can sit there while he cries and do nothing but purse her lips and frown? No matter what my man did, if he confessed it so broken-heartedly, I'd reach out to him. We were weeping with Don-- why wasn't she?
Once again, I'm left wondering whether January Jones got this part because she's meant to portray someone who can't feel empathy, or if she just can't act.
I disagree that this scene resembled the one between Maxim de Winter and his young bride. She, unlike Betty, was relieved and almost joyful when learning the truth from her husband-- joyful because she realized he really loved her. Betty, on the other hand, reacted like a strict mother chastising her wayward son. It gave me the creeps!
@Fifty-Two: Alot of people are concerned with Betty's seeming lack of empathy. I just posted commentary about this on the main thread around 7:25 pm.
You too, Rasputin. re: the blubbering and shrieking.
@Fifty-Two: I felt that when Betty put her hand on Don's shoulder she was being very compassionate.
I think January Jones is a fine actress - she plays the part very believably. Betty is cold and immature. In this scene, she is understandably angry and likely feels that her world is a lie. Don's reaction to the confrontation, re-becoming Dick, shows his humanity. Betty reacts reasonably. Remember, she's not a dispassionate observer as we are, as viewers. This is her life. She was ready to leave him, and you don't turn that around suddenly. Instead, you soften, you feel sorry, you begin to empathize.
zerelda: I totally agree, I was so happy to see Betty finally acting like a grown-up for the first time. January Jones has done her best acting in this episode and last weeks. The emotions on her face last week when she first found the box were totally believable. And I don't think she's unemotional; at this point she's just emotionally exhausted and skeptical of Don. She knows that he's been lying to her for 10 years, I'm sure the thought rightly crossing her head while he sat on their bed crying was, "can I really believe a word of this or is it just a new pack of lies.."
Now we're finally getting somewhere!! I'm not a fan of January Jones, but bravo for this episode! I haven't liked her so much since she shot at the pigeons!
