This week's promo on the AMC site
Kind of lame?
Betty's redecorating, talking over things with her ID. Don walks in, says move the lamp and end table to the other side. Betty and the ID both think it's genius.
Really? That's supposed to whet our appetites?

I agree with you, grin. Sometimes the sneak peek is pretty lame. I've found that Fancast also has a "preview" clip that sometimes has more meat to it. This week's clip talks about Ogilvy publishing his "Confessions of an Ad Man" - some one on the 723 thread mentioned that his burial date was July 23rd and maybe that was the reason for the episode title. Anyway, I think if the promo they give us is a stinker, we can find another one on Fancast.com

It's interesting that Betty doesn't seem to know where the soul of her home is.
Granted, the clip gives zero insight into the next episode. But...I found the clip hilarious. Modest Don is deferring to Betty (who hired the decorator) because it is her space and he just doesn't care. Betty asks Don to utilize his superpower, as if it translates to any context, and can be turned on&off upon command. Voila! Don effortlessly improves the design, matter of factly and without the flowery decorator-speak. The decorator immediately recognizes the improvement (as if any self-styled artist would be receptive to amateur suggestions). The whole thing seemed farcical, which really tickled me.
The scene stands well on its ownm, although I can't imagine how this scene can be relevant to the broader story lines of the next episode, unless the episode is all about Don's emerging superpowers (e.g. women swoon or throw panties when he walks by; his superpowers of persuasion are honed to the point where he convinces with a mere glance).
I agree Fred2. I also found it quietly hilarious. He so obviously doesn't care, and chooses the first thing he can think of that won't cost any money to change.
I was also sorry that the clip really didn't give us a clue to what is going to happen next week, but even if it was something related to the plot, it would still be a red herring.
The whole point of the exercise from the decorator's point of view is to get Don's approval for whatever's being done. The decorator could care less what he said as long as he said something minor.
He says move this to there, the decorator gushes all over him and since he "approved" it, she doesn't have to worry about his objecting to anything (especially the price) after the fact. "But you approved it as it was!" Betty won't care because it's to her taste to begin with.
He was about to go to work which meant he probably didn't have the time to give it a critical review in any event.
.....It doesn't say much about the story line, but as one who has been dying to re-do the living room (or at least ditch those dreadful maudlin Count Dracula drapes), I'm thrilled over the new decor and color scheme. Not surprising Don Draper has a good sense of feng shui.
What is hilarious is that Draper made around $3M (modern value) in the agency sale, and makes over $250K per year (modern value), but continually gripes about the costs of running a household.
Must be his "poor-kid" roots.
As an aside, that's plenty of money should Draper want to start a firm of his own, retire, or advent another venture entirely.
Another aside is that it would be very interesting if Joan comes back to Sterling Coo, only with another job title. Harry is going to need some help in Media at some point in the near future, as television becomes more and more prominent.
I thought Betty's new decor looked exactly like her: stiff, formal and cold. Doesn't say a home with three young kids to me. Where is the comfort factor? Where is the sixties modern vibe? It looks like the Bush White House.
i thought the sneak peek did show a very slim betty - thinking maybe we are skipping ahead a bit.
