The Fog

This is not about opening scene predictions. That's for SJ.....My friend used the word obfuscate in a sentence yesterday. I have to admit I had never heard the word before so we had to have a discussion about it so I could use it in a sentence at some point in the future with my husband.. It means-1. To render indistinct or dim; darken: The fog obfuscated the shore. 2.To confuse or becloud: His emotions obfuscated the shore. So The Fog -could it be about confusion for some of our characters?

Definitely. Peggy is moving to Manhattan, the Drapers are dealing with Gene's loss, I think Joan is pregnant! There are a lot of decisions to be made, and sometimes it's hard to know what's right. I see at least two of the characters, Peggy and Sally, falling into a bit of trouble in the next episode.

@sab: MW usually has a few situations within an episode that apply to the title. Here are some possibilities:
1) The London Fog account
2) Don has to travel to the home office in London to straighten things out
3) Kitty in a fog over Sal

There are a lot of characters that are literally "going through the motions" as if "walking in a fog" or as if "their head is in the clouds". Betty with her father, Sally, Don, and the baby; Don and his whole life; Peggy not dealing with her baby; Pete and Trudy and not having a baby; Joan with her horrible husband; Sal and Kitty..Sal and his sexuality and Kitty just coming to the realization of her husband's sexuality. Paul and his facade that he is something he is not; Roger and the possible realization that he messed up with Jane........I could keep going. None of them really knowing how to deal with whatever is going on in their situation or what to do next. So they just fake it and keep going.

I think Betty's in a fog because Don broke her heart. She seems unable to connect emotionally to anyone.

I believe it has something to do with "the fog" that Scarlett O'Hara was running through ~~ in her dream she related to Rhett on their honeymoon ~~ and again at the very end of GWTW (running after Rhett). I think it has something to do with Gene calling her "Scarlett O'Hara" when she didn't want to talk about his funeral arrangements with him..("I'll think about that tomorrow...") and that is in her mind now... and she'll dream something related to his saying that to her the very last time he spoke to her...

Definitely. Confusion and lack of communication reign supreme in the world of MM. Betty must be feeling more disconnected than ever. Sally is obviously not doing well. Sal is confused as hell. Kitty even more so.

Wild thought: maybe something to do with the London Fog account, and the Brits getting the boot? Eh, never mind. That's a stretch.

Off-topic: how pissed off does Peggy look in that still shot? Would not want to be on the other end of that stare .

I don’t see anger on her face…More a “Hello, what are YOU doing here?” Peggy always has an innocent “Me ?” on her face though I think she’s far from innocent. I M O, of course

@scfan-loved the "Gone With the Wind" scenario...of course, as a young child loved, loved, loved that movie. I grew up in the south and as a young child wanted to be Scarlett O"Hara..(who didn't in my era or locale..)even grew up in an antebellum home (not that we were wealthy, just inherited..but did love our heritage..)

The reference of Gene calling Betty a Scarlett O'Hara.. I could relate to the fact that she didn't want to think about that then...she would think about that..tomorrow!! And in the fog.. in a possible dream or remembering the past... loved it...!!!

Thanks to all... lots of lovely mental munchies!

Sab4... I'm with you on Peggys "innocence". Shes a quick study, and knows what to project, no matter what shes actually feeling. That skill is one reason she got this far... another of course is talent.

one line I love from GWTW..."I'm positively pea green with envy.." (heavy accent on the green)

Melba, a poster said on another thread about GWTW and Giant being favorite movies, which are two of my favorite movies, too, many more, also, but those stand out to me and I always watch them when they are on TV (have a DVR of GWTW but not of Giant (yet).

I love the scene when Rhett tells Scarlett (after Frank Kennedy's funeral) "I can't go all my life waiting to catch you between husbands!"

That movie, and Giant also, are full of quotable quotes.

This should be over on the Movies for Maddicts thread, so sorry, sab!

You guys who said the Betty / Scarlett fog thing are right, I bet. This will be all about Betty becoming "an orphan" and not being Daddy's little girl.
