Pryce

Last episode during the ant farm calamity, Pryce doesn't throw a fit, he actually laughs along with the guys. Not what we'd think.

Right before that he walked in while the guys were discussing jai alai, and he says, "Look at this, comaraderie, perhaps we've found America's new past time". Is he talking not of jai alai but of comaraderie being America's past time (in that Brit tongue and cheek subtle sarcastic kind of dry wit) ?

So this episode Don says something like I can't talk to you when you're this way and pours a drink. And here Pryce doesn't put his hand over Don's drink and say no. He accepts it, and even in his own novice way, takes a sip.

The first episode they were drinking tea. Also Pryce even had a little empathy for the Americans in firing 1/3 of the work force.

There may be something to this Pryce..

I like him. With the BIG exception of making both Pete and Ken Head of Accounts (and even that might not have been his own idea but someone's from the home office) I really think what you see and hear is what you get with Pryce. He seems to listen to people and gets the measure of their moods. He never throws a hissy fit, just makes his point and leaves it at that. He is open to new ideas. He isn't sarky with the SC folks. He seems respectful. He was really honest with Don when asked, "Why did you people buy us in the first place?" Notice that he didn't get defensive there. He just said, "I don't know." That quip about "finding America's new pastime," I felt he was talking about jai alai. Not cameraderie.

I wonder who is arriving next week from PPL. I think and I hope it's going to be St. John Powell. I've hardly seen Charles Shaughnessy since The Nanny. It'll be nice to see him do something other than comedy.

I can't stand that guy and his voice drives me nuts

they have to get that guy drunk ... that is all there is too it

I would love to see jaws drop when the head guy walks in and is introduced as "Mr. Frederick Rumsen .. I believe you already know him?"

@NeverNotTasty: I agree with you about Pryce (as I do with the rest of your insightful posts). I like him and find his way quite unassuming. I respect how he handled Pete's dressing down in this episode--rather than rant and rave, as Roger and Burt did, he tried to figure out what could be learned from the debacle. I also loved how he handled the chilly dinner between himself, his wife, Betty and Don (telling Don afterward, "Your wife is charming. She lifted Rebecca's spirits immeraurably" or something like that). Clearly, it was not really how she felt, but he wanted to smooth things over and make the best out if the bad, just like with Pete's mistep with Admiral. And his honest response to Don about why his company bought SC was so bluntly honest, I was almost taken aback. I am very curious what is going to happen with him the rest of this season.

Hidey, AA...Freddie at the helm? Now that would be fun!

I kinda like Pryce, too. I have to say I love his voice...so King Arthur-y (his Dad, after all!) I think he adds to the show, but those of us who do may be in the minority right now. That other little smarm who came over with him is the one I can't stand....like a British Pete! Ick!

This is such a cozy little thread, unlike the main thread which will likely be at 2000 comments by week's end. It's out of control.

@Greg: It's always so nice to read your comments. For all the talk about trolls, it's so nice that there are a bunch of guys like you we can rely on. Sorry if that sounds condescending. I don't mean it to. It's just nice to be able to talk to a guy on the board and not have to argue about gender issues.

@Ta-town girl: Right back at ya! I'm noticing we're often on the same threads. Birds of a feather and all that.

@Auburn Annie: If I see Freddy, I'll let ya know.

@SCfan: I was going to give a shout-out to you on this very thread! I was thinking that since we have similar taste in men, you might be hoping that Mr. Powell shows up in the next episode too. ???

@CadMen: Hello. We're going to have to agree to disagree. Something tells me you're going to need a drink before next week's episode. It appears there is going to be a fair amount of Jared Harris then.

@All: Just so you know - I am not going to start a habit of namechecking everyone.

I don't know about Pryce...he sure isn't impressing Don!But I agree that he seems open-minded. When Don gave his spiel on how to make money at the agency, Pryce seemed pretty affable and willing to listen. Don used to give Roger this same type of advice and Roger generally blew him off if I recall.

NNT, was it you who posted it was "getting warm in here" after I posted about silverfeast.com (back there on Dry's "Roger Directing, Smoking, etc," etc. thread (buried now!) and said to search "Richard Gere" there and see the picture that comes up...?

If so, then we do indeed "have similar taste in men"! ha ha

He might be a nice guest star on MM, but then that's just me!

And, yes there are definitely some nice fellas on this forum....Drink&Smoke for one, easily comes to mind, for one! You, too, Greg! There are more, too.

and NNT?.....Mr. Powell is ok, too (is he Mr. Sheffield?) he's aged pretty well, too....

There is a gorgeous pic of John Slattery on that silverfeast.com site, too....whew.....!

I wish I could find that one I saw somewhere on the web that showed his adorable freckles!

In the sneak preview clip when Pryce is announcing the arrival of the PP&L CEO, he uses the phrase regarding the office and desktops, "Ship shape and Bristol fashion." So veddy, veddy British.

@SCfan: that was me alright! I said it was "getting warm in here" after going to Silverfeast. Thanks again for the link. That picture was the best. He looks better in a blue pinstripe than anyone I can think of. In fact I wish Roger would wear more blue pinstripe instead of the gray pinstripe, but that might be what the time calls for, and suits his character.

Although he's no silver fox (just a plain old "tall, dark and handsome" hottie !) Jon Hamm is also what I call wonderful looking (me and about a billion others!) He looks the type to keep his natural dark color over the years, I think.

I wonder if he would look as good "silver".... his being 38 (?) he will soon need to decide if he will dye or won't dye, I guess. Hard to picture him grey with that oh-so-dark head of hair of his....time will tell, I suppose! Of course, he'd look good even wearing a Bozo the Clown wig (well, maybe not!) haha

user-pic

.....SCfan.....I surfed your silverfeast site, and have to admit I was so startled I literally forgot where I was and how I got there! What a riot they have a whole site dedicated to silver foxes (some foxier than others.....)

As to Jon, anyone remember him in the "Lex Luthor baldy skull-wig" thingie??

Jon will be a hottie if and when he goes grey. Nothing worse than a silver clinging to the hair dye.

(Just how DOES that Grecian Formula rinse work, anyway?? Is that the silver bromide or whatever it is that they use to dye lashes??)

Speaking of Pryce, I'd have to say that, as of this epi, he is rather growing on me. The Americans must be mellowing him.....

And, speaking of Drink&Smoke....."come out, come out, wherever you are!"

user-pic

Oh, you hung around silverfeast awhile, did you, Dry? Nice scenery there....like you say, some much foxier than others.

Yes, I do recall Jon as Lex Luthor...even that couldn't dull his "beauty" could it? ha ha

And, I agree, Doolah....uh, I mean Dry, about silvers clinging to the dye...my own "silver fox" (you've got one, too, right?) turned silver quite a few years ago and never even considered Grecian Formula or Just for Men, or whatever it's called this week (!) He just said whatever happens happens and he didn't care one way or the other. He's just lucky that it looks good on him. Some it does and some it doesn't, I guess.

Well, I like Mr. Pryce Lane or Lane Pryce, whatever the heck his name is (can't remember at the moment and too lazy to look it up, sorry). I like the very Englishness of him and I am enjoying watching that snooty little toady, Hooker, too.

When Joan finally kicks the rat doctor to the curb, I hope she falls into the arms of Pryce. He will never be able to believe his good luck, and he just might be her ticket to bigger and better things at Sterling Cooper. Unless, of course, St. John Powell is returning not because he wants to check up on his new company, but because of a certain redhead he has not been able to forget. He and Joan would make a ravishingly gorgeous couple and what a kick in the seat of the pants to Roger.

I have to say, I have no affection for Pryce. I have seen his type in mergers alltoo often. He is the advance hatchetman, squeeze blood form a turnip ultimate toady, with no personality. I work for a company that employs some very charistmatic Brits and beleive me, they are nothing like Pryce. I was hoping that Powell actually takes a perusal, finds it lacking on their end, and puts a new Brit in charge, one that's a bit more hip, but not too,... younger, sexier, and more socially at ease.
