More Blood
Last week Thirteen posted a great thread, "A Smear of Blood?" This week we had more bloodshed and in even a more violent way (Matt Weiner's Sopranos background has infiltrated). I posted on that thread that I felt that all this blood is foreshadowing, (and building up to, among other things figuratively) but most significantly, and literally, the assassination of JFK. There is no stopping this now and I can only imagine what else is to come in the next episodes. This escalation feels very operatic and all the other subplots may start to feel less significant as this steamroller builds. Any thoughts?

I have to say that the tension in this episode just kept building for me. Around the time Sally began screaming, my hair is on end and I'm thinking about the falling man in the intro (presumably Don) and feeling as though his life will be falling apart sooner than later. The epi had such a dark feel throughout, and as though doom is inexorably approaching for not only Don and his family, but Joan and the entire Mad Men microcosm. The JFK aspect didn't occur to me tonight (no programs with wedding dates apparent) but I think you're onto something.
it was last epi that i was expecting something very bad. it was very tense for me. when it didn't happen i was lulled. this epi caught me off guard. man the writers know what theyr'e doing.
maybe joan will pull a jackie and not change her dress "i want lois to see what she's done"
Hi renatae. You're so right about the tension, for everyone. It's as if Sally was doing the screaming for all the characters! And, wow jh, your comment about Joan not changing her dress, just like Jackie Kennedy didn't. Great call. MORE foreshadowing.
Hi, guys. YES. You are so right on. I've definitely noticed blood, beginning with last week's episode, and now in last night's. Fascinating idea, about the foreshadowing of JFK and Jackie. And Joan and Jackie have some similarities too, if only slight ones.
I find that trying to find these foreshadows are fun. Like trying to find the Alfred Hitchcock cameos in all his movies. The foreshadows are getting more intense and scarier. Like false alarms in a horror movie. Of course lets not forget the biggest foreshadow of them all which was back in an earlier episode Where Roger's Daughter dressed very Jackie Kennedy-esque planning her wedding on November 23, 1963 and only we as audience members know that a wedding planed the day after JFK is killed will only lead to Dissater.
I think it would be cool if Matthew Weiner had a baseball immediately smash though a window in the Drapper household to relate to the ball smashing into the ant farm.
