Michael Gladis radio interview

I was driving home this afternoon and tuned into the Connecticut affiliate of WNPR. The show was about Mad Men! Michael Gladis (who grew up in Farmington, CT) was on talking about the show and his character Paul. I almost drove off the road with excitement. It was a call in show, so, of course, I called in! His sister was in the studio, his 2 brothers and his mother all called in. I don't do well talking to famous people, so I probably sounded like a nut (not too far from the truth)! The show also had 2 gentlemen who were ad men in the early 60s. One was Sanford Teller, and one Richard Gilbert. Mr. Teller watches and enjoys the show. Mr. Gilbert feels the show doesn't capture the true essence of advertising in the time period. It was great because there was an interesting discussion between these men and Michael. Michael was so gracious to Mr. Gilbert, and said he was sorry the show didn't live up to his expectations, and to keep watching because change was coming.
Another caller was Roberta who was introduced as the head as the MM fan club in NYC.
Michael said he reads the Forum, and joked about his dissappointment with negative comments about Paul.
As David Letterman said this was a "brush with greatness for me"!!
Any other Maddicts from CT hear the show?

Thanks for your recap of the live call-in radio show with Michale Gladdis in CT. That was interesting, and I think gracious of Michael to do it. I didn't know he lived in CT or that he had siblings, etc. He sounds very down to earth, and like a nice person.

(Your recap makes me nostalgic for the days when I used to listen to radio. I should get back to it, as it seems to be the one fairly constant format in this changing world. Reminds me of Don's remark: "You'll have to take radio the way it is.").

Paul's been having it rough at SC these last few weeks, and I think he's letting his mental slump show --his negative musings at the pot party, his candor with the Madison Square Garden backers, etc. It's made me worried for Paul. He needs to score some points at the office soon. He should come up with an idea of something to do on radio --(Grin) -- he's got a good voice!

I don't know why I keep spelling his name with two "d's"! (I'm going to start calling him Michael). Sorry Michael!

Hi TakeFive!

I feel the same way about Paul. When I first saw his character I thought he was pompous (sp?). Now, I realize he represents the future. He is forward thinking, ahead of his time, and I don't think the Sterling Coo gang understands that yet.

Michael said he read that his character has been referred to as a poser, which made him chuckle.

I missed the first few minutes of the show, so I'm not sure where he was calling from. As I said, his sister was in the studio, one brother called from Japan, and one from Spain. His mom may have been calling from CT. And one of his high school buddies called in. It sounds like he has always been quite a character!

You mentioned listening to the radio. It's funny, when I was a kid I always listened to my favorite AM Rock and Roll stations (by transistor and ear plug). And now, as I've gotten older I listen to either talk radio or the same Rock I listened to through childhood and high school.
I guess everything comes around!

I was impressed with Michael's singing voice on MM also! The funniest part of that scene for me was when he had to give up his mohair sweater for the door! His response "it's mohair" was so Paul!

I had mohair sweaters, and they were the worst itchy things I ever wore!!
