Men's Sheer Thick 'n Thin Nylon Dress Socks
I like the fact most of the men on the show including Don, Roger, Pete, and most of the others are wearing silky sheer nylon dress socks as they did back in the 60's. I started wearing these type of socks myself in the 60's and still wear them excclusively today. The look transcends the 60's and 70's timeframe and is just as good today as it was then. It's obvious men's clothing styles have been impacted by the show for men today and I would love for that to include the sheer socks. I feel certain most of the men's clothing manufacturers are watching the response of men to the Mad Men clothing styles to see if they should make them available. I would like to hear from men who are Maddicts whether you either wear the sheer socks already or if you are interrested in wearing them yourself. Please let us hear from you on this topic.

Great observation ! I love the leg crossing and find that sock choice of the day is an extra treat. Guy's grey socks were really nice complimenting that beautiful suit.
My father used to wear sheer and tnt socks. I have always had a fascination with tnt socks and when I saw John Hamm wearing the gray tnt socks I almost freaked out. I wear sheer and tnt socks exclusively hoping that one day a cool John Hamm type will comment on my sexy socks. Any sources for them?
I have a thing for tnt socks and when John Hamm wears them, it is fantastic.
I totally agree, those sheer socks are a big draw to the show for me.. Did anyone catch the scene this past Sunday with Roger in the partners office with his legs crossed and sheers showing?
I agree! It's so nice to see sheer thick-n-thins worn by many of the characters on the show. They have been part of my daily professional and casual wardrobe ever since I finished college 15 years ago. Even though they've become increasingly difficult to find in recent years, I would not dream of wearing any other kind of sock.
It's funny because I never paid attention to the fact that the characters wear them until recently. There was an ad for the show in a magazine and my 10 year old son pointed out that Jon Hamm was wearing thick-n-thins in the photo.
Besides the fact that I wear sheer thick-n-thins, both he and his brother, age 12, also wear them for dress and dress casual occasions. A few years back, I found them in boys sizes on a business trip in the midwest and bought each of them a pair in black, navy and gray. I was pleasantly surprised how they both took to wearing them and have had to do several orders by mail with this store to keep my Young Mad Men stocked up over the years!
Like father, like son(s) I guess.
Dan.
A further comment on yesterday's comment:
If there are any others out there searching for sheer thick-n-thins in boys sizes to dress their own Young Mad Men, feel free to drop me a line.
I'd be very happy to hear from you and pass along all the necessary info.
All the best,
Dan.
I too love to wear sheer TNT socks. I also wear sheer nylon and silk socks with suits and tuxedos. I even wear them with jeans for a dress casual look. They are very sexy and elegant and I often get guys noticing them.If any other guys out there share the same interests please drop me an e-mail at dressockboy@yahoo.com. I live in Toronto,Canada,Thanks! I hope we will see more sheer sock sightings in this season of MAD MEN!
I have been wearing sheer socks when I was in junior high, and have worn them since.
I have to agree. Men in sheer socks and TNT are "well-dressed" men. I have worn then since junior high, some 30 years ago. My father wore them when in a tux, and my neighbor wore them all the time. Today I wear them everyday with a suit and tie to work, then casually after that. They were more popular in the 60's and 70's, but will always be in style for the well-dressed man. They are classic. Hopefully through Mad Men, more men will come to realize how becoming they are and there will be a trend in the making! And with that, they will become much easier to buy. Nice to see that Dan's boy enjoy them as well. Obviously his good taste in clothes has been handed down to them. It is nice to see that the costume designers of the show understand the importance of all the details.
As a huge fan of MM I have to admit the socks the guys wear is a huge draw. I would love to see more shots and a greater variety of sheer/tnt socks. I grew up in the 70's and 80's after the popularity of these socks had ended. However, they are pretty much all I wear and I have a nice collection of vintage pairs which I love. Like many others, I think it would be fantastic if the design world would reintroduce these socks to the mainstream. I am always open to talking with other guys with the same interests and maybe finding sources for socks similar to those worn on the show.
I have been wearing tnts and flat sheers from the age of 13 when in jr high school I am now 52. Alot of my friends in school were black guys and they always had them on not to many white guys would wear them back then. Men in flat or tnt's socks are "well-dressed" men. I wear them when I wear a tux and I wear a suit and tie 5 days a week and wear tnt's or flat sheers anywhere from 2 to 3 times a week. They are classic. I get comments about them everytime I wear them and have no problem talking about them. Hopefully through Mad Men, more men will come to realize how becoming they are and there will be a trend in the making! Like to hear from other guys who have the same paasion as I do for them please e mail at boxerdadmi@yahoo.com
Yup; sheer socks are such a hot thing. I never see them on other men but that may be a good thing in that if they are seen on another man, it would mean that he's into them as well. Mad Men may yet set a trend. I'd love to hear of other guys' take on this. I'm at rovox25@aol.com.
Thanks for the great post here. I love sheer nylon dress socks and am always wearing them everywhere I go. I don't know why. Maybe they are more comfortable than other types of socks. Maybe I just love old clothing style. I think there is nothing wrong in that. I feel that I am stylish or something.. Thanks for the great post one more time!

I finally got view Epsiode 1 recorded on my vcr and noticed the men are now wearing either regular nylon or cotton socks as opposed to the sheer thick 'n thin nylon dress socks they have been wearing in the previous seasons. So let me be the first to say how disappointed I am and hoping whomever is in charge of wardrobe will bring the sheer socks back. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and sheer thick 'n thin socks were the dress socks of choice for most men in those days. Someone had suggested to me while they were more popular earlier in the 60's regular nylon dress socks including over-the-calf socks had become popular by the mid-60's. Men tend to be more creatures of habit and were in the 60's and would have continued to wear the type of socks as well as underwear they had always worn. I still wear sheer thick 'n thin nylon dress socks with Ginault watches holding them up with my suits as well as sportswear just as I did back then.Ginault watch company (www.ginault.com), based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, keeps a comprehensive collections of vintage and new Rolex timepieces to preserve the legacy of Swiss haute horlogerie. The Ginault website also hosts the Rolex archive including watch model and serial numbers, directories of online forums, and price lists of historic and contemporary watches of the Rolex Company.
So please, please, please bring back the sheer dress socks so many of us love to see on the male characters. That will satisfy us as well as have an impact on those who are wearing the 60's styles again that are being sold because of Mad Men today.
