Run Jon, Run!!!

Poor Jon Hamm! He finally gets his big break on MadMen, and now he's going to lose it in just one fell swoop! Hope he gets something else on his plate quick or this season may very well end him. And why did he do that idiotic skit on Jimmy Fallon? Please Jon, have some discretion over your work, you're worth it!

Whatcha talkin' 'bout, Willis?

Hanna, I'm a white girl, not Willis...lol
I am clearly saying that I think the show is going to tank. Even though their viewership is up in numbers, it's only because they really hyped it and drew in an audience for the opener. But I will bet money that the numbers will be WAY down next week. I feel bad for Jon, cuz he just made it with this part. I also feel bad for the Maddicts such as myself, the ones who are disappointed. But I did see an interview where he said he's doing a movie, so I hope he keeps his gorgeous face around for us to see.

Viewership may very well be down next week - it tends to go up on premiere night after all the publicity, and then goes down to a more consistent viewership. That does not mean that the show is going to tank.

I really don't think that the episode was so bad that the show is going to be canceled any time soon (I actually liked it). The tone seemed to be in keeping with that of the previous seasons. I know that some viewers were shocked (some even in an intense way) by the scene with Sal and the bellboy, but I believe those were in the minority. Let's not throw proverbial baby out with the bathwater. Even with a negative response to a storyline from some people, that doesn't mean we should get rid of the show.

My prediction is that ratings will go up overall for this season, though probably not at the same level as on premiere night.

And Jon Hamm will be fine. He's made is splash and will only go up from here.

Hope so, hanna, I love the 1st 2 seasons so much, I hate to see it lose it's momentum. There's a lot of pressure on the show now and that tends to make the writers go off-kilter. BTW, Elizabeth Moss is staying where I am,. but haven't met her yet. Am looking forward to it. Wish it was Jon here!!

Show runner/creator Matt Weiner wrote this episode. He's the pilot of the ship and he'll decide where the show goes based on his vision for the show as well as the ratings and reviews.

user-pic

Weiner is at the helm, and his visions just may cost him the ratings & reviews, in which he has no control over. He's a gambling man, now let's see how he plays his hand.

you're crazy - i loved the dice bit on Falon!

Oh, you sound sane!

Always love to read the posters who feel they have that "inside track" on where a show is going and exactly what someone's "vision" is. The speak of Weiner as some master of the Universe or something. Weird. This is a TV show. Period. Not life and Death the way many on these boards seem to treat it. Not trying to start trouble (honestly) but some folks are so serious about it all. Weiner is a screen writer (and my opinion is he ought to leave the writing to the staff, but again that's my opinion) and some of them have egos so big they can't get through the main studio gate. Don't know the man personally so I don't know if he is one of them. Mad Men may last and it may not. TV audiences are fickle and what they like today they may not tomorrow. Most shows have a window of about five years. While some last longer certainly (some way too long) it's difficult to predict the longevity of any show with accuracy.

Well, I see that you have covered your ars on every side, you must feel good now! My 'inside track' is my opinion. That's what this site is for, people's thoughts & opinions. Weiner isn't master of anything except ruining a perfect show and hopefully, not ruining Jon Hamm's career cuz I want to keep seeing his gorgeous face on my TV. As for you, Madison, anybody who has to say 'honestly' in their martyr-like bit, is obviously lying. May last...may not---take a stand! I say the show won't last after this season. I'm a betting girl, and I also don't like to sit on the fence and watch the world go on around me. I speak up.

well...I guess you were wrong then, weren't you?

;)

and who in the heck has never heard the term "whatchoo talking 'bout Willis"?

I'm a white girl and I use it alot.
