Just stopped in to bring a little "cheer" a few jars of maraschino cherries, some Tanqueray, a lovely fruited ice ring for the punch bowl, some bags of chips and some french onion, bean, ranch and guacamole dips (I'll just pop those into the icebox over there) ~~~~~there we go...all ready for the festivities on Sat....

I brought my "Kiss the Cook" apron for you and my "For This I Spent Four Years in College?" apron for me....tell me what needs doing and I'll be glad to help....

Do you think that closet is large enough? Actually, the weather is pretty mild and we won't be wearing heavy coats, so on second thought, it's probably just right. I think most of us ladies will leave our hats on. Let me help you with those things you're moving.

The description of your apartment reminds me of the movie ROPE with the large sky-light type windows overlooking the City. And the brick wall - OMG! my first apartment back in the late 60s was on the lowest level of the building, half underground, but had a long hallway entry with a brick wall painted white. I'm thinking I'll feel right at home Greytone.

Do you have plenty of ash trays? I could bring some - I have several of those large ceramic ones that hold tons of butts.

Smart kid!...he thought of it all by himself.

I stayed up late last night just worrying about how everything will go. Now, I realize how much help I really have....so I am beginning to relax. What are you wearing tomorrow? I was looking for an outfit like Midge wore when Don first visited her apartment, but our wardrobe options are a little limited and excludes big white shirts and black pencil pants. :) Looove your fur collar, by the way---and that haircut is really sharp!...:)

I'm so sorry to ring your doorbell like this when I know you're busy putting the finishing touches on your affair....You must have a million things left to do...well, maybe not...you're so organized, and I've heard you're quite the hostess. I'm hurrying to get this dress to the One-Hour Cleaners...I'm just so aghast that I haven't helped with the hors d'oeuvres, potted palms...or SOMETHING, at least. That's Pete's fault. Of course he never bothered to call me in Rehobeth Beach to let me know. Mother and Daddy and I are summering down there, and I haven't gotten back to the City much this month. I called Jennifer Crane last night to see when the baby's due, and that's when I heard. Oh, I'm so put out with Pete! Mother and Daddy think he's awful too. Oh, heavens, I'm wasting your time...Forgive me...but do you think this sequined dress will be a little too much for your affair? I'll leave off the long gloves, of course, since you're starting at 5:00. Which reminds me...I may be late...I "promised" Charlie Fiddich I would attend his Engagment Announcement Dinner that our Co-op neighbors, the Lymans are giving. Of course, since it's right in the building, how can I refuse....and then, I do feel like I owe Charlie. I don't know exactly when I'll be able to get away from that....Mrs. Lyman "hinted" that there will be lots of intersting people there, and I can't be rude to her by leaving early, you know. But I'm sure your party is going to be absolutely wonderful too, and if it's still going on later in the evening, I'll be sure to drop by. Oh, and thank you for the "sampling" of the Martinis you've pre-mixed. I needed that. Mrs. Greytone, you just think of everything, and you're so gracious. Oh, Mrs. Greytone...it's me again. After your doorman went back inside and I was headed for the car, I heard a rustling behind the large potted palm to the right of the building's entrance. I looked behind it and saw this little boy dressed up in a man's dark suit coat--it was way too big for him, and he had on a bow tie and his hair was all slicked back and looked quite wet. He's clutching a little card-board box and told me he was "waiting" on something. I just thought you should know...you wouldn't want him scaring your guests, or making some sort of scene. Oh? You know who it is? Very well then, I see you have the situation in hand, as usual. Bye bye AGAIN, Mrs. Greytone!

Hidey again...just popped in to bring by those deviled eggs! I whipped up some of those cute little chocolate dipped strawberries that look like they're wearing tuxedos! (White and choc. combo) I'll just wedge all this in the fridge....Lordy, this thing is full! You've outdone yourself, grey! It all looks sooooo delicious. I'll be sure to pop those stuffed mushrooms (half with spinach and half with cheese!) in the micro after guests start arriving....See ya later, alligator!

Hey!....I saw an interesting interview with the screenwriter, Nora Ephron about that movie, rozsie... She explained that it was wonderful doing the research for that film because Julia and her husband were prolific writers and everyone they wrote letters to lent them to her to aid in making the film.

Well...apparently Julia married late in life and she and her husband enjoyed each other physically as if they were young teenagers.....like little rabbits, she said. Since that interview I can't look at Julia the same way and am looking for a more complete interview with Nora Ephron about the film!

Yep, Roger showed up, too...pretty nice of them (I think she was in town doing her play, "Speed the Plow" at the time...this was before her co-star Jeremy Piven's 'mercury poisoning' !) don't know if John Slattery made a special trip or not. Still nice of them to support Jon Hamm in his guest appearance.

I still say that "Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women" is a classic....so funny.

Yeah, SCfan.... I saw that post! I felt really bad that some people had trouble changing their avatars and had no where to go for help and didn't ask for help! I also noticed there are some Maddicts all dressed up and not coming to the party!

I'm going to leave things as they are. I've faced the fact that our group tonight may remain small and female....and that's okay (with me). I have a belief that people do things/don't do things for a reason. Whether they'll tell you the reason or not, their actions tell you more truth than their words can explain.

I'd rather talk with you (and everyone else who attended) about MM while you're here than try to drag people here who have chosen to be elsewhere.....

I am so sorry I did not make it back to the party last night. (I stayed very late at the other soiree). I saw lights still on at your place as I was driving home around 1:30AM, but I couldn't find a parking place, and I was a bit too "tipsy" anyway.

Just thought I would stop by on my way home from church, and give this note to your doorman to give to you...and also leave this baked chicken. Since I brought no hors d'oeuvres yesterday, I got up early this monring to pop this in the oven. I thought you might not feel like cooking today. It's my coq' o' vin receipe, which I love, but my Peter doesn't seem to care for it.

Let's do keep in touch. My goodness, old friends are hard to come by...and everything is changing so. I remember you were so kind to me when we first moved into the neighborhood--recognizing and welcoming me in the neighborhood newsletter. And to do that inspite of how busy you are. My, my. (Or as my Pete would say, "A thing like that!). Speaking of Pete, I'm afraid we're in one of those rocky periods in our marriage. The way he's spoken to me at times! Well, Grey, this "note's" become a letter, and I apologize for that. Along with everything else, I'm working on my tendency to say too much. It's just that I've always been a reader of the classics, and I'm afraid I don't understand this "new age," and Pete's "talking bear" stories, and all of those things. But then again, it almost feels like a new beginning...this long "hiatus" from Pete this summer and all that, has me thinking about a "new me." Who knows!
