.....Gotta have it.

I still say the bloopers would be fun. Maybe when the series concludes they will be willing to release them.

user-pic

.....I just saw Elizabeth Tsing in an Olay commercial.

She was the cocktail waitress crushing on Donald Draper in the Chinese/Japanese restaurant. The episode was Flight 1.

Come to think of it, that scene was confusing.

She is obviously Chinese, wearing a traditional Chinese silk brocade formal dress, but wasn't the decor Japanese?

AND the music?

user-pic

I am sorry don't hate me because I'm stupid. What is the difference between Blueray and DVD?
Do You get different/more stuff on Blueray?

user-pic

.....Chelsea.....Welcome to the "Tech Hell" Hell.

user-pic

.....Sorry.....I just like saying "Hell" a buncha times.

user-pic

......Sorry.....Baa-ah-hh!!!!

Well, Chelsea, frankly I am surprised at you. Everybody knows the difference between those two....um, whatchmacallems....yes, now let's see, one has that little round silvery thingie and the other probably does not...that is the blue one, I think, and it was invented by some guy named Ray.

I don't know who invented the silvery thingamabob, but his initials are DVD. Of course, it could have been a woman, but probably not....not that a woman couldn't invent something like that, it is just that if she did, she surely would have written the instructions so that you can understand them and not have to ask a man everytime you want to watch a movie how to turn on the little box that sits under the TV and frankly adds nothing to the decor of the living room.

I mean, really, what with all the boxes and wires hooked up to our TV, that corner of the room is an unsightly mess. One of these days I am going to get a nice big cabinet and hide everything away behind closed doors....we used to have the loveliest TV cabinet that was big enough to put a flower arrangement on, but then someone said we needed a cable box and it has just gone downhill from there. Our present TV is large and so skinny you can't put anything on top of it....the only time that corner of the room looks good is when Don Draper and company are on the screen.

I don't know what the hell "anamorphic widescreen" means, so I can't help you there. Perhaps SCfan has the answer?

Thanks for the morning smiles, Zerelda. When I pre-ordered Season 2, I had to call my son to find out what "blue-ray" was. It all came down to the fact that I would need a blue-ray player for it to work. So, I ordered the regular CD, or is it a DVD? Whatever, it will play in my cheap little machine which is on the shelf below my (non-HDTV) TV which is about 12 years old with the VCR and satellite box on top of it.

Chelsea, don't be so hard on yourself...with all this cyber technology I can't keep up. Good thing I have two teenaged grandsons and my son to guide me through the cyber-sea.

.....Since we have been talking about it, check out Lindy King's blog today on the Mad Men supporting characters.....

http://www.examiner.com/x-13070-Mad-Men-Examiner~y2009m7d3-The-mad-men-at-SterlingCooper-libido-and-prepresed-libido-run-amok

I think Lindy has been reading your comments!

Thanks, Dry! Loved seeing the Pete and Hildy clips - reminded me all over again why I love the office scenes so much. I really hope Season 3 stays close to the office crowd - I find them to be very intriguing and in no way merely supporting roles. Mad Men would not be half so enjoyable without those guys and gals.

user-pic

Hey, can anyone remind me why Pete threw the Bob Newhart album out of his office? Saw it on the Pete and Hildy clip and couldn't remember why he did that. Pete sure tends to throw things - guess Hildy was lucky it wasn't a chicken.

I am also thinking that if Pete worked in today's world and was in his office aiming a rifle at his co-workers, he would probably get hauled off to the looney bin and/or jail.

user-pic

What a cute clip of Vinnie flirting with that chick...he was really checking her out, wasn't he?

She was flirting back as well...anyway, cute interaction there.

Nope, sorry, z, I have no earthly idea what the deal is with Blueray (barely understand DVDs myself) But, I will add that in addition to your sayng it was invented by a guy named Ray...he must have been a Smurf....

You're right, z...Pete would have been incarcerated jiffy-quick if he pulled that rifle and aimed it at people in an office nowadays....different world.

Everyone mentioning their TVs...ours is a 10+ year old Sony that still works fine (knock on wood) and is as "hi def" as we are going to get for a few more years....like z says, when DD is on it really improves the picture....

user-pic

And Dry...thanks for the cool retro "Guess Who" clip

Now the rest of the day I will be humming "No sugah tonight ~ in m' coffee...no sugah tonight ~ in maah teeeee"

(at least it got rid of the Thunder Road (another thread) ear bug!)

lol

user-pic

Z...that clip of Hildy and Pete was good, wasn't it?
I also hope there are a wealth of office scenes in S3.

Wish I could recall why Pete threw out the Bob N. album, CRS again.....sigh.

Well, time to fix up some baked beans, slice up some onions, etc. and get ready for the cook-out...hope the rain holds off until it's over...if not, well....wouldn't be the first time we grilled in the garage with the door wide open!

Hope all Maddicts have a fun time today!

.....Oh! I'd meant to put a totally different one, but guess I messed up.....

I couldn't believe it when I saw this, and of course have no idea how the heck I got there, but check out Paul Anka covering Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsS811o21-k

Hilarious! But the words are so great, I can see why he'd want to cover it.

I was further surprised to find out that SEVERAL people have covered that song, including Patti Smith, which version is pretty amazing.

Also, lastly, I just found a person's real name, and had to tell you - get this - Josephus Wartson.

Yup. It's a real person.

user-pic

.....I love the office crew, too, and feel almost jealous a bunch of foreigners are going to march in and encroach upon the dynamics.

Oh well - this season, it's all about change, right?

I'm off too - ciao for now!

user-pic

Ick. Paul Anka looks like he is embalmed. Never a favorite of mine or even close. Never even liked him when he sang with Annette. Too, too, Johnny Vegas, Frank Sinatra wanna-be. The song is lousy, too.

Interesting that he sang the first song about loving an older women, though. Perhaps they should play it if Betty and Glen get together again:

I'm so young and you're so old
This, my darling, I've been told
I don't care just what they say
'Cause forever I will pray
You and I will be as free
As the birds up in the trees
Oh, please stay by me, Betty D.

Thrills I get when you hold me close
Oh, my darling, you're the most
I love you but do you love me
Oh, Betty D., can't you see
I love you with all my heart
And I hope we will never part
Oh, please stay with me, Betty D.

Oh, my darlin', oh, my lover
Tell me that there is no other
I love you with all my heart
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Only you can take my heart
Only you can tear it apart
When you hold me in your loving arms
I can feel you giving all your charms
Hold me, darling, ho-ho hold me tight
Squeeze me baby with-a all your might

Oh, please stay by me, Betty D!

(with apologies to Mr. Anka for slightly altering his song)

user-pic

.....OMG, z, you sound like my mother.

She had critical remarks for the likes of Harry Connick, Sr., AND Jr., as well as Dino, Paul, Frank and a bunch of others.

She was a real gossip scamp - who knew!!

The "Betty" treatment is fun!

user-pic

Only song I ever liked by Paul A. was "The Times of Your Life" (was also heard on an old Kodak commercial) plus he wrote the Tonight Show theme, I have heard, which I imagine gave him mucho royalties over all those years.

default userpic

WTF! Why the suckage of the DVD? I don´t have Blueray and got the season 1 DVD imported, just to get the special bonuses.
I have to buy Blueray to get access to the bonuses now? What kind of asshattery is that?
Does anyone know if the U.s DVDs are as bad as the U.k ones?

user-pic

.....Well, thank you, z, for clearing that right up! And, OMG, hilarious, and I feel so bad for thinking that!

PS - I have zero feeling for Paul Anka, and found the remarks very entertaining.

Call me a purist, but I like my music authentic, original and excellent!

user-pic

...Me, too!

user-pic

SCfan....
Pete threw the Bob Newhart album out as the final act of throwing 'the fellas' out of his office.

Prior to his arrival, the guys were all in there listening and laughing to it. When he arrived, he was angry over something else (I forget why now) and the levity irritated him when he wanted to be alone to brood.

user-pic

Thanks grey...I think z wanted to know and I echoed her, but, my CRS would not let me remember.

....one more instance of Pete's "fit throwing" again....! Big overgrown brat!

user-pic

You guys crack me up!!

user-pic

Now I'm going to be really pissed off if the Blue-Ray version comes with all of those extras and the standard DVD doesn't!!! I've been waiting by my mailbox since July 1st for my S2 DVDs because I absolutely LOVE the commentaries and extras. By the looks of it, the standard DVD comes with squat while the Blue-Ray is bubbling over with extras. What a rip!

I believe Pete was upset and threw out the Bob Newhart record because that was when Don "fired" him the first time.

Thanks for the clips with Hildy... I find her unbelievably attractive!!! What a great character she is on the show...

.....Check this out, Chelsea, wherever you are.....

Mad Men Season Two on Blu-Ray
Published July 9, 2009 in DVD News
By Fred Topel

This is the first time I’m seeing Mad Men on Blu Ray. I only snagged the standard DVD of season one. Now I really wish I had pushed for HD because this show is everything I hoped for on Blu Ray.

On Blu-Ray: Mad Men Season Two

You can really see every detail the craftsmen of the wardrobe department put together. Someone was wearing a fur vest where you could see every hair. Certainly the threads in all the clothing fabric.

You even see natural details too. Betty Draper’s horse has all his veins bumpy under the brown coat. The lovely actresses let you into every intimate detail of their skin and I love that. Heck, even pieces of paper have fine detail.

The clarity is top notch for TV on Blu Ray I’ve seen. Many still show digital spots because it’s probably not the highest grade equipment. Mad Men holds up with crisp, solid sharpness and shiny sets to show off.

user-pic

I'm not sure that I really want to see the horse's veins...

I think I made a mistake by pre-ordering my DVD's. I paid around $40 for them from AMC and they probably won't even ship until Tuesday. I should have held out and walked into a BestBuy on Tuesday and picked them up for $27.99.

user-pic

.....It's not the veins I'm worried about.
