Down With Love

i dont know if anyone has ever seen this movie before, i had a few years ago, and i saw it again a few nights ago. it stars ewan mcgregor, renee zelwegger, david hyde pierce and the late tony randall, who is absolutely hilarious in this movie. it takes place in manhattan in 1962. it is very funny and light hearted, i'm sure everyone who saw it would enjoy it. very comedic take on the social issues of its day.

.....I love this movie!! It's adorable, and I thought they did a very good job with the entire thing.

Ewan McGregor(meow!)'s apartment was unbelievable - a James Bond pimp pad! I must have it!

And you're right, samg, it is hilarious.

Thanks for bringing it up.

I saw it as a sort of valentine to the old Doris Day/Rock Hudson/Tony Randall movies of the early 60s crossed with Helen Gurley Brown's "Sex and the Single Girl" - and its movie version with Natalie Wood.

Auburn Annie's right - it definitely has some Doris Day/Rock Hudson flavor to it. The old man/woman sparring, but in a cute way.

When I watched the film after it first came out, I was turned off by the silliness and campy nature of the film. It was over the top for sure... but then so were some of those movies at the time. I had to step back and not expect a realistic interpretation of the time. I watched it again a few months ago (on a high from MM and searching for all things '60s) and enjoyed it for what it was; a light-hearted spoof.

Plus Ewan McGregor is always delicious, especially as sex-panther on the prowl! He he.

.....AA.....Absolutely.....agreed. Was there anything cuter than "Pillow Talk?"

Yes....agree with everyone! Renee Zellweger has always reminded me of Doris Day from the first time I ever saw her (btw, loved her in "Cold Mountain" ~~ "Ain't no man better'n me!" ~~ "If you need he'p, here ah am!") and when I saw her in DWL I thought, yay...someone sees that in her, too!

I also thought they had great chemistry (she and Ewan) and yes he is one dish, isn't he?

As to "Pillow Talk", I happen to think it's a classic. I love Doris Day in anything she's in....looooved her in "Please Don't Eat the Daisies"....I posted a clip of her from YouTube on here someplace (?) a few weeks ago from that movie that is absolutely hilarious. She's probably an acquired taste (or one of those you-either-love-her-or-hate-her actresses)

"Sex and the Single Girl" was also cute, Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood were great together (but then I loved "The Great Race" too....so don't go by me! ha)

Yes! "Down With Love" was wonderful! It really did pay homage to the early '60s Doris Day films/Rock Hudson movies. I also loved the imagery in the film: The over-the-top, campy attire and set decor. What a delight.

.....It was just so witty.
