Time Slot
Does anyone think the bad time slot simply has to do with the smoking? There has to be a reason, the time slot is just so bad. I've seen news story after story about over the past decade a huge Hollywood push to ban smoking from all media. (also seen recent stories of a similar push to only show child characters eating healthy food and vegetables. seriously.)
But that's my 2 cents. I think maybe it's the smoking that they're either forced, or just themselves just feel more comfortable, to put it on late. It just makes no sense having such a bad time slot.
Myself, I would hope not because that's just yet again taking something initially well-intended too far. I can't imagine legions of teenagers suddenly running out smoking because of a tv show on the AMC channel they don't watch. Not to mention it's probably harder nowadays for a kid to get his hands on ciggarettes than it is a case of beer.
But if the bad time slot comes down to it actually being because of the smoking, I say put the show on at 8 and puff away even more. They could use the bad publicity.

.....Are you talking about the Season 3, 10:00 time slot?
10 pm isn't prime time, so the smoking shouldn't be a problem then.....should it?
As to the smoking, they might, but I don't think teenagers emulating characters from the sixties is very trendy right now, so the influence might be negligible.
"Bad publicity!"
That's funny!!
Well, as the old saying says ...."there's no such thing as bad publicity" and "...as long as they spell your name right".....
I wonder sometimes if it was an attempt by AMC to obtain viewers by playing hard-to-get (the bad time slot) -- and it backfired.
who really knows, I guess....but, I'm with you, Greg.... the time slot makes no sense at all.
I get it (the regular seasons) at 9PM since I'm Central Time...so it's not so bad here (the lateness) and I am lucky that I can watch episodes back to back (if they still do that in S3!) by 11PM.
Oooh, made a snarky comment about AMC's choice of midnight for Season 2 re-runs, and the whole post was rejected and I had to sign in again. I will re-phrase my comment.
I have no problem with first run episodes airing at 9:00 p.m. Showing the re-runs of Season 2 at midnight was what I found appalling. I wonder just how much input Matt Weiner has on when this show is aired. You would think he would want his masterpiece out there for everyone to see.
I have been harping on this time issue for weeks, but I am sure AMC does not give a rat's patootie for my opinion, so I will shut up.....for now.
I don't think it is the smoking although AMC might try to say it is. I think it is just to be able to run another movie that they have shown 10 million times and leach MM viewers to possibly watch the lame movie and thus get better ratings. As far as the encore of BB at 11EDT and making us wait until midnight to see our show--same reason to try to leach MM viewers for BB. I am not saying that BB is a bad show, I just can't get into it. I don't think Weiner has any input on it at all, Zerelda, or he would most definately opt for at least a 9 PM first run. Keep harping, honey, maybe someone will pay attention and give our show the respect it deserves!
I have tried to get into BB, also, kathiemarie....no likee....
You may be on to something, Greg. God forbid a child should see someone smoking on TV, but they can watch all kinds of other disgusting crap. CBS has a new show coming out in early prime time this fall with Jenna Elfman (who I like), and the main premise of the show is she's pregnant after a one night stand!!!!!! The blurb on imdb is, and I quote: "Jenna Elfman stars as a film critic who gets pregnant after a one-night stand. Check out the new comedy coming to CBS Fall 2009!" (The exclam point is theirs.) I guess hilarity is going to ensue. We're living in Bizarro World.
I agree, Mambo...what a mess!
Charlie Sheen's show has a kid (teen now, I guess) who's been witness to the endless parade (sound effects, too, coming from his uncle's bedroom!) of one night stands....I watched it for about 5 episodes the first season because it was funny, plus I like Holland Taylor (the mom) then it got to be the same ol' same ol'....when there's no writing, just run an endless stream of sex jokes....ho hum....
