The new Don Draper Ad Agency

Many have predicted Don starting his new ad agency in Season 3. If Don went out on his own, what would he name his new agency? Who would he try to take with him? Who would be in charge of what department? What clients would he want? Which clients would he try to steal from SC?

Of course, he'd avoid any kind of eponymic agency, choosing instead something more symbolic -- like, oh, I don't know, Mother (lol) -- thus starting the trend of giving creative agencies conceptual names, rather than naming them after people. Of course, Peggy would be there. As would Sal, and probably Paul and Ken. The Smiths might be there, too. Hollis will have moved out of the elevator and into the creative department as a young copywriter working with Peggy. Pete would want to be there, but the others would make him suffer first. Harry, not wanting to rock the boat would still be with PPL/SC. Bert Cooper will sit on the Board, as will Alice and Mona Sterling. Don will have also convinced Rachel's father to be a board member, along with Anna Draper. Bobbie Barrett will weasel her way unto the board after threatening to expose his other affairs.

Don's clients will include Martinson's Coffee, Kodak, Heineken, and Capitol Records. Bobbie Barrett will help him land Pan Am, which will be a major coup.

.....Grin....Intriguing predictions.....You mean something like "Yo Big Daddy Don Bo Dean" Agency?

I found myself wishing Heinekin would sign on for another season like BMW.

I agree with about everything you said Grin&b. However, I don't think Don would take Pete with him. Not after Pete tried to get the goods on Don and make him look bad.

Does anyone think Don would try to get back Mohawk Airlines? I think he will take Playtex with him and try to get Freddy back in the door to keep it going. I like the idea of Bobbie Barrett blackmailing her way back into his company. grin&b. I still think we will see Bobbie showing her fangs this season. I think she has some sort of revenge planned for Don. Chelsea you are spot on with Pete. He is useless and comes with all sorts of hidden agendas. It is his name, not his talent that keeps him at SC.
Cheers!

Interesting post my fellow Maddicts. Don could get really creative and call it: Draper-Whitman, Whitman being a very silent partner.

.....St. John Powell made a comment after Duck's melt-down, something about "hope this doesn't affect the merger...." which kind of indicated to me that Duck is out, as president, at least.

Which, surprisingly, is disappointing.....I'm realizing now I would like to see Mark Moses come back as Duck. Although I HATE what Duck did to Freddy and Chauncey, for some reason I like the guy anyway.

By the way, I was surfing around the other day and came across reference to a big internet contingent opposing Chauncey's abusive treatment. From the description, it was a serious campaign! I don't mean to be callous but I thought that was amusing, seeing that it's a fictional story.

The acting dog who played Chauncey is probably the best cared-for doggie in the country!

As to Draper and whether he will be President, I'd say probably..... I don't know, but I can't see them ditching the Sterling Cooper storyline.....we are way too fond of all those people, and they can't all go with Draper in the event he should start his own agency

One thing Harry and the others mentioned a couple of times was something about a west coast SC office, so maybe they'll do something with that.

That would be great - I know a lot of people didn't like The Jet Set, but being a Californian since birth, I loved it.

I think by series end Don will either have his own agency or a branch of SC. Either way it will be in southern California. From LA to San Fran there's a LOT of advertising ground to cover - and television is moving from East to West coast, too. And he really enjoyed his time in the sun. And Anna is there, too. Whether or not the Mrs. comes with him is another question.

.....Very good point, AA.....The writers would naturally want to follow what was happening in advertising at the time with their storylines. Maybe if we do a little research we can come up with some accurate predictions.

I like the idea of Don starting his own agency in Cali, with Anna maybe becoming the 2nd (and 1st!) Mrs. Draper!

I think Betty might go into advertising "in front of the camera"....like Betty Furness' ads for Westinghouse refrigerators...maybe selling Frigidaire ~~ or a competitor's ~~ iceboxes...glamorous housewife stuff....or maybe even one of the Breck girls...or Prell! She could be a great endorser of cosmetics, too....maybe Belle Jolie?

Funny, rozsie! Draper-Whitman (silent partner)! ha ha

Yes, Drink, I like the idea of Don trying to get Mohawk ~~ I think he really was sorry about the ax job he was forced to do to them...I think he feels like he owes them and wants to make amends.

Great thread, Drink!

.....What about Miss Blankenship???

Hmmmm, I agree with those who think that DD will go West. It will be interesting to see who makes the great trek with him. Flower Power, sun-tans, long(ish) hair and more swimming pools beckon...watch this space.

I cannot picture Don starting his own agency. Having a position of power with no contract is exactly the kind of work relationship he wants/ can handle. Remember how uncomfortable with Cooper's "philanthropy is the gate to power". I don't think he is into promoting himsef without a product/agency behind him that predates him.

.....portia's.....Good call.....He did have a look of horror on his face when Bert mentioned his rise to "community philanthropist."

I maintain that that is one h**l of a sticky wicket, and he knows it could all go up in flames.

Can't WAIT to see what happens!
