Looks as if they're getting in the car to go home from the hospital....hmmmmmm....a white baby blanket....no hint there...although that is a very pink coat Betty's wearing!!

I guess they're not starting off with as much of a leap forward in time as last season.

user-pic

YES! Unless it's a flashback they've stayed in the 62/63 time period. And Don still has that beautiful ice blue Caddy!

They're not leaving a hospital, it looks like they are at their house. I'm pleasantly surprised that the show has only done a small time jump this time. I was not expecting that at all! The baby is obviously a newborn. Unless it's a flashback, of course. Who knows with this show!

Thanks for the links, jane....I like the comment someone posted below one of those pics ~~

"That man sure can wear a suit."

oh so true, "anonymous", oh so true!

user-pic

Did you see that blue suitcase. Man were they heavy to carry even if you didn't have much in it.

user-pic

Yes, those small blue suitcases are heavy but not as heavy as the Samsonite traveler ones. My wife still has one from 1968. Before they discovered soft-sided and durable molded plastic.

BTW - is that a plastic sack of Pampers baby diapers he's carrying in the same hand? I believe Paul was demonstrating how they work early in S1.

So there's at least one scene from 1963 in S3. In the one pic of them coming out of a house, they might have been visiting Grandpa.

user-pic

Do you all think Don got a baby shower like they gave Harry?

Think he had to wear that bonnet, too???

heeee

user-pic

.....Great pics.....The pink silk ensemble seems very "Jacqueline Kennedy."

user-pic

See http://www.paperpast.com/html/1963_fashion.html for information on fashion styles, trends, and colors for 1963. That coat remids me of Kay Thompson's number in FUNNY FACE called "Think Pink!" I had a pink and white window pane plaid vinyl raincoat a few years later, I think (mid 60s?)

user-pic

Sorry, "REMINDS" me ... long day.

user-pic

That is the coolest site, AA....clicked around and found a topic for some old-timey coffee cake recipes...yum.

user-pic

I assume this is the casting call for baby Draper -

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/tlg/1216779286.html

user-pic

Well, according to that, jane, the Drapers have had a boy....

And that means Bobby's not "the baby" anymore....I can hear it now..."Bobby, don't touch the baby! --- How many times do I have to TELL you!" which will further induce jealousy.....Betty Betty Betty....

user-pic

.....That is a fab site, AA.....very informative. Thanks for posting.

I would never have thought to look on Craig's List for anything Mad Men! Wondering about the call limiting the engagement to 8 hours. Do they shoot all the baby scenes for the season in one day?

I'll miss Aaron Hart playing Bobby Draper.....

user-pic

If that casting call really is for baby Draper, then that means that the baby isn't born until a few episodes in. Which would mean that these photos aren't flashbacks. Hmm.

I wonder how the flashback to Dick's birth/his mother's death in the first episode is going to fit into all this??

Have they changed Bobby actors yet again? I really like the one they had last season. I hope they never change Sally.

user-pic

Maybe the baby will portray a baby Dick Whitman in a flashback, not a baby Draper. Earlier casting calls implied that they were looking for a midwife, and other women for a possible flashback to Dick's birth.

user-pic

.....Good points, both.....

user-pic

I hope they never change Sally, too, jane...but, being of the current generation, she is "ahead" of the maturation of the little girls of the '60's (as our and each successive generation has been) and will probably start to enter puberty much earlier than Sally would have...hope they don't have to strap/bind her up top....child abuse! She already took a good spurt between S1 and S2 (normal, btw)

There was some old-time movie star who talked about entering puberty and when her breasts began to develop, they bound her at the top! Terrible!

Was that Judy Garland? It was someone in that era/time frame, I think anyway....probably was her...she was abused in many different ways to maximize the studio's profits from her talents, poor soul.

user-pic

That casting call is interesting. But remember, they're also flashing back to Don's birth. The baby in question could actually be baby Dick Whitman, not baby Draper.

Oh, and not only is Bobby Draper no longer the baby, he's no longer, well, Bobby. Not the one we've come to know, at least. Looks like they've changed Bobby's. Again. According to IMDB, this year, Bobby Draper will be played by Jared Gilmore instead of Aaron Hart. So what is that, Bobby #4 now? I wonder if that's going to be a running joke -- kind of like Don's rotating secretaries...and mistresses...

user-pic

.....Kiernan will be back for Season 3..... check out a recent interview with her.....

http://blogs.amctv.com/mad-men/2009/05/kiernan-shipka-interview.php

"Sally" rocks!! I'd also just like to say that Aaron Hart killed me (and probably a few others) last season. He was amazing and I will miss him.

user-pic

Great link! Thanks for sharing. I'm glad they didn't skin an entire year this time. If the baby was conceived in September 62, that means S3 starts around late May 63. I can't wait.

user-pic

Hmmm. I never thought that the casting call could be for baby Dick Whitman. I just assumed it was for baby Draper since we have the photos of Betty holding a newborn.

I don't get why they keep changing Bobby actors. If they have just the one Sally why not one Bobby as well?

user-pic

If they start around May of 1963, doesn't that make it an 18 month jump again? I wonder what Matt's deal is with 18 months? Cheers.

user-pic

If they want to jump ahead almost 2 years, they have to get an older boy to play Bobby. They can probably make the actress playing Sally look older with hair and makeup and wardrobe.

user-pic

.....I'm sure they have their reasons, even if they are hard to imagine, but I just thought that Aaron Hart had some very real chemistry with Jon.

It would have been great it they could have done more with that, but oh well.

In some interview I can't remember I thought I read that Matt said something about resuming right after the Kennedy assassination, since he didn't want to "go there."

user-pic

I always thought the latest Bobby looked like a mini-Pete!

user-pic

Is the baby Don's or not? Let's not forget Betty's little encounter in Season 2.

user-pic

......I can't find the quote, but Matt said recently that it's definitely Donald Draper's child, and it was conceived during the visit to Betty's father's home.

user-pic

Dry is right. I remember reading an article where Matt said the baby was Don's. SCfan, don't most eight year old boys with dark hair look like Pet?. Even with a beard, Pete looks eight years old. It looks like he will be carded at the bars until he is sixty.

user-pic

Missing one vowel and look what happens. I mean "Pete".

user-pic

.....They both work - ha ha!

user-pic

Good gawd, Drink....like I'm going to hop on anyone's typos!? Never!

I have at least 2-3 in everything I post...proof reading is my middle name! (well, actually, that would be "Ooops")

I agree, Pete is destined to look like a kid until he's 50...lucky jerk, but, that little actor (Bobby) definitely had even the mannerisms and the whole "Pete thing" going....wierd!

user-pic

I'll agree, the young Bobby had the "Pete thing" going on, and yes...it was weird (or is it wierd?) Your spell check on the blitz, SCfan? Just jerking your chain. ;o) Cheers.

user-pic

Drink, heeeeee!

Spell check, spell check? We don' got to show you no shhh-tinkin' spell check!

I do so many (typos) they'd overwhelm it anyway no doubt...
