Live Chat with Matt Weiner and John Slattery
Just saw this posted on The Envelope.....

Chat live with 'Mad Men' creator Matt Weiner and star John Slattery on Thursday.
Join us here at Gold Derby on Thursday at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET for a live chat with "Mad Men" producer/writer/creator Matt Weiner (above left) and star John Slattery. You can dish with them casually or ask tough questions.
Last year, "Mad Men" pulled off an historic breakthrough at the Emmys, becoming the first basic cable show to win a best-series award (drama or comedy). In addition to being declared the best TV drama of the 2007-2008 season, it won five more Emmys, including an award for Weiner writing the episode "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." Slattery was nominated for best supporting actor.
Considering how strong the show's second season was creatively, "Mad Men" will surely be a strong player again at the upcoming Emmy derby. Right now use the boxes below to send yourself a reminder to join us in time for the chat so you don't miss out!

.....I pulled a Donald Draper today.
I found myself on my couch, with my right arm draped over the right sofa arm just so.....
And the left arm, draped over the back of the sofa just so.
You fill in the blanks!!!
Did you have a drink in one hand and a smoke in the other, Dry? ;o) Cheers.
Dry Manhattan, Power Poster of the Mad Men Blog!
heeee
Damn, 6PM (my time) I'll be fixing din-din....can I type in a question on there early and read the transcript later on? Being live chat, probably not....
I'd like to ask JS...Is it true you auditioned for the part of Don Draper only to be told you were on the short list ~~ until they got a load of Jon Hamm? And are you sorry you got stuck with Roger....personally, I think he gets all the best lines (to quote D&S) anyway....he's great comic relief on MM.
Think he'd answer?
sigh
Just thought of something...with MW sitting right there next to him...JS would probably answer he liked playing Roger just fine...whether it was the truth or not! The guy has to know it is a dream part...DD is not the only dream role on MM!
ha
.....I missed it, because I was having my computer serviced. I assume they will have a transcript available at some point.
I read they made Jon Hamm audition like seven times for this role.....you have to be pretty secure in yourself to go through a gauntlet like that.
They couldn't have picked anyone better to play Roger Sterling, so I guess it all worked out.
D&S.....Cheers!
Well, I'm a little disappointed...went to the site, John and Matthew were both about 5 minutes late. Lots of questions were posted and they both tried to answer them. Then after about 10 minutes John signed off. Matthew stayed until about 7:25, then left. It was way too short and no new information was forthcoming as to a starting date for season 3. Matthew was asked about the network adding two more commercials and he said he was not happy about that but didn't know how it would affect the storylines.
.....There were some frustrating questions similar to the ones posted here, and there were a couple interesting questions and answers too.....
A couple "Basket Cases" were there.....
The transcript is too long to post, but here is the link if you're interested.

I already checked it out, Dry...looked like MW and JS were in a hurry to get gone....
.....It was a little lame, but asking intelligent questions is hard, and takes some thought. A live chat on a website like that probably isn't the best thing for someone like Matt.
One thing that I noticed is that John Slattery is just about as funny as Roger Sterling, and they both have a wicked sense of humor.
Still one of the best interviews I think I've seen or read is the one Matt did a couple years ago (I think - it's starting to run together!) on NPR. That's probably still available.
I guess with a show like this, you have to play the cards closer to the chest, but the one thing there are never enough of, with any good show, is outtakes.
That would be great fun.
Wow...can you imagine the hilarious outtakes of John Slattery?
Of course, I've read that Vincent K. is the cut up of the bunch....at any rate, I have a feeling MM outtakes would be funny beyond belief.
.....Oh yeah. Vincent's pretty wild and crazy. I love that in a person.
Check out this very good interview with him - the real Vincent.....

For those who don't already know, a "Basket Case" is a "member" of the Basket of Kisses contingent.
Didn't want anyone to think I was mudslinging!
