sorry I meant Season Three, not episode three.
There is no question that Bobby Darin was an outstanding entertainer and singer.
However, Darin only recorded a cover version of "Mack The Knife." This song is from "The Three Penny Opera" by Bertolt Brecht with music by Kurt Weill, based on the English 18th Century "The Beggar's Opera" by John Gay. In 1956 an off-Broadway softened production opened in NYC, which ran a long time.
Mad Men starts in early 1960, not 1958, although there are flash-backs in several episodes.
Of course all the creatives on MM are well aware of Darin's music and recording. These have seldom been used in TV series due to the prohibitive price demanded.
Our local oldies station canned anything pre-British Invasion. Evidently old fart music is attracting the wrong demographic. Bah.
I did my ironing this morning while listening to Artie Shaw. Whipped through my husband's shirts in no time while swinging and swaying with Artie. "Frenesi" and "Begin the Beguine"- "Back Bay Shuffle" - what wonderful music. Had such a great time I even ironed my pillow cases....
Love those Big Bands, Z....Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw (wasn't he the first husband of Ava Gardner?) and aaaalllll the Big Bands....great music!
Do you have a Rowenta iron...those are great!
Yes! and it's pink! My ironing board cover is yellow with big pink and blue flowers and trailing green vines. I set it up in front of my kitchen window that looks out on our garden and bird feeders. I find ironing to be so relaxing now I am retired. It was always a rush job when I worked, but not any more. It is strange the things you take pleasure in once you are older that you avoided or never noticed when you were young.
Kind of like when we were "too little" and we'd beg to do the dishes and sweep....before we realized that was "work"!!! lol
I love the smell of ironing...reminds me of watching my Mom iron in her short-shorts and little sleeveless cotton blouses in the '50's...she looked like a teen-ager, though she was already in her early '30's then...I know I've previously posted this (ages ago) but, you know that agument kids have..."My mom is prettier than your mom!' ?.....well, they would just stand there with their hands on their hips, look thoughtful for a minute and nod and either say "Hmmph" or just walk off, knowing they couldn't argue with me on that! lol
Ironing IS definitely therapeutic...there you start with this basket of damp, rolled-up, wrinkled clothes, and you transform them into crisp, wonderful smelling/feeling garments as if by magic....slowly watching the wrinkles vanish with each pass of the iron ~~ plus getting a mini-facial as the steam rises....weird to actually enjoy, but I am a member of that club, too!
Here's some nice ironing music, z!

.....That was a nice visual......z, swinging-out at the ironing board, watching the tweeters go by.....
Love, love , love Begine the Beguine don't know what the heck it means though.
I never knew what the heck a "Beguine" was either, Chelsea....on the Online Dictionary it says it is the music for a South American dance similar to the rumba...now we know, I guess...ha
Okay SCFan I'll take that answer???
.....It's a dance and a vocal tune..... Classic Cole Porter!

The guy I'm looking for.....Jim something..... I can't find.....
Anyone know who I mean?
When they begin
the beguine
it brings back the sound
of music so tender
it brings back a night
of tropical splendor
it brings back a memory of green
I'm with you once more
under the stars
and down by the shore
an orchestras playing
and even the palms
seem to be swaying
when they begin
the beguine
to live it again
is past all endeavor
except when that tune
clutches my heart
and there we are swearing to love forever
and promising never
never to part
a moments divine
what rapture serene
to clouds came along
to disperse the joys we had tasted
and now when I hear people curse the chance that was wasted
I know but too well what they mean
so dont let them begin the beguine
let the love that was once a fire
remain an ember
let it sleep like the dead desire I only remember
when they begin the beguine
oh yes let them begin the beguine
make them play
til the stars that were there before
return above you
till you whisper to me
once more darling I love you
and we suddenly know what heaven we're in
when they begin
the beguine
Cool, Dry!
I like the Frankie one best...(the link worked fine for me)
Now that's some fine ironing music! Weeeeeee!
P.S. Did you like that lesser-known Glenn Miller gem up there?
I think it was also in "Memphis Belle" -- which had quite a few fine tunes in it....not to mention Harry Connick, Jr. ...and D.B. Sweeney, etc. etc. (!)
Thanks Dry beautiful lyrics. I can't google those sites cause my computers as old as dirt. But thanks for the words love it.
