Talk is a public forum where you can ask questions and share your commentary with fellow Mad Men fans.
Hey, Maddicts! Are you lurking out there?
It has been a looooooong time since the end of the first running of Season 2, and the re-runs have just concluded. Some of us have hung around the Forum waiting for Season 3, and we've tried to keep the conversations going about Mad Men, and we admit we strayed waaaaaay off topic many, many times. Somebody should have quoted Bette Davis way back in November: "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride", 'cause it has, indeed, been that. Things were said, and sharp retorts were made, and feelings got hurt, and folks got angry, and then someone would post a thought about the show and off we would be again, chattering away about all things Mad Men.
Perhaps you joined in the hashing and re-hashing of our favorite show, or perhaps you looked in occasionally but kept your comments to yourself (all the while thinking "what a bunch of nuts", hmmm?). Well, if you haven't visited the Forum in awhile, other than to read and run, how about taking the time to post a short note just to check in with your fellow Maddicts and assure us that this wonderful show still has you enthralled. Did you watch the re-runs? Have you been as disappointed as some of us at the lousy time chosen by AMC to re-run Season 2? Are you looking forward to the new season? Are you still conflicted over Don and Betty's reconciliation? Still not sure what happened to that baby of Peggy's?
C'mon, we know you are still out there, you elusive Maddicts who haven't been heard from in many moons. Drop in and say hello, do! It's always a pleasure to hear from old friends.

.....I've been thinking the same thing....where are all those great former poster-palios??
Never doubt or fear.....
They are coming.....
I'm still here, not lurking so much as appreciating the caliber of comments by all the posters - this really is one of the best Forums around!
Yes, I'm WAITING (and waiting) to find out what year we'll return to (1964?), whether there'll be parallels between the British takeover at SC and the Fab 4 coming to the U.S., how the Mad Men will spin the Viet Nam war, whether Joan will dump that abusive, stuck-up Dr., whether Pete and Trudy will split, and of course, what goes with the entire Draper (Whitman?) household. I hope Peggy becomes an early Women's Lib advocate!!
Speculations are almost as fun as the real deal!
Yeah, Maddicts-on-Vacation....come on in and stay awhile....here's some snacks and a tray of Long Island Iced Teas (and regular Iced Teas!) Old Fashioneds, and a few other assorted cocktails...we even took up a collection and got some champagne! Drink Up!
What's been on your minds?
Hello fellow Maddicts!! We have been having something called a 'summer' here; which means a few days of sunshine in between the snow, frost, rain and fog. We all take to the great outdoors in shorts, white knees included which quickly become red. Its ending now, so we will all be hibernating again soon so lets gear up for Series 3...........what? Have I missed something during my bout of sunstroke??
.....I thought I read they were starting in 1963, after JFK, but who knows. I am glad they aren't racing through the decade. There is so much to cover, it would be a real disservice.
If you read that transcript of yesterday's live chat, Matt discussed the extra two minutes, per episode, being stolen for advertising purposes, for Season 3.
He mentioned he is still fighting against that, and that fan input might actually make a difference.
Who knows, but it's a crafty web that's been spun, with Mad Men and Matt stuck right in the middle of it.
They made sure, by neglecting the promotion and banishing it to midnight on Sundays, no one would watch live, and therefore the numbers would be low.
Thus, enabling them to come back to Matt and say the revenues are low, so they have to cut into the actual programming.
Obviously I can only comment about the look of things from the outside, with what we know right now, but I've never seen a situation where a show was singled out for what appears to be unprecedented abuse. There seem to be a lot of firsts here.....both good and bad.
We shall see. I mentioned before how Breaking Bad episodes are being streamed from the AMC site, but wonder if Mad Men will be afforded the same exposure, and am definitely going to wonder if any other AMC original programs will have to sacrifice artistically at the behest of the money gods.
I know it sucks that we may be losing two minutes of programming to commercials. But I don't want to beat up AMC too badly. This network has the best two shows on television right now. And it has taken guts and dedication to artistic vision to bring MM and Breaking Bad to life. Anybody remember how great A & E used to be before it became the Dog the Bounty Hunter/Bill Curtis channel? Horatio Hornblower is still spinning in his watery grave. I hope Matt Weiner wins his battle. But believe me, if the choice is between two minutes less of MM and no MM at all, guess which one I'll choose?
So right, sweetposey....we will snatch up any paltry crumbs tossed our way....they (AMC/MM's Crew) have trained us so well!
Personally I prefer the quality rather than the quantity.
And it's not always good to dissect a movie, a music, a painting; and say how we must understand it, feel it.
In this moment I watch the movies with Grace Kelly; and some other movies of the 50-60's.
Quite boring she always played a wealthy women. It would have been interesting to see her acting a bad girl. Too bad.
I watch some videos about her. Every time I feel glad and sad.
l would like to see her alive.
A forum with a lot of photos of Grace:

.....I seriously doubt it's an either/or situation, and we aren't talking about all the other fine programming going on at AMC, we are talking about Mad Men.
There is no excuse for what has befallen this program, and the people responsible for that.
The fact is, AMC are and have been notorious for "crying poormouth," and yet it is every evident that they are growing by leaps and bounds, in all kinds of ways.
From my perspective, they are doing everything right to be a great, successful network, except precisely what is happening in this one little corner.
Nothing anyone says here, not even Charlie Collier, will convince me otherwise.
FrenchFan, She was not a wealthy woman in "Country Girl." Have you watched that movie?
"FrenchFan, She was not a wealthy woman in "Country Girl." Have you watched that movie?"
No, but I'm going to watch it.
Dry: You said that Matt mentioned fan input might actually make a difference. Did he say what we can do? Do you have any ideas?
Yeah, Dry...I was checking out Lionsgate's site and, like you said, they are absolutely rolling in it...why do they need to be so greedy?...never mind, we all know that answer, don't we?
Well, like MadGrad says, got any ideas?
Maybe the Maddicts CAN actually be "heard"....it would be nice for a change....
I didn't see a "Contact Us" link on their site....no big surprise....
Oh hell, is Lionsgate even the culprit? Is it mostly (or all) AMC? I'm mixed up myself on it all....
AMC's rolling in it, too....record profits and all is positive...like Dry says.....they have it made...Mr. Collier has done his job with flying colors...but, the question still remains...why is the Shining Jewel of AMC (IMO) being treated like the whore child shunted to outhouse digging duty?
I'm sure part of the problem is the "advanced" age of most of us MM watchers; advertisers don't want us, and as we know, advertising makes the world go round (pretty ironic, isn't it; a show about advertising that skews old and can't sell advertising). Even though I have read that the average MM viewer has a higher-than-average income, he/she is older than what most advertisers want.
.....Here goes.....
Right on, Mambo...funny how they push the Cialis or Viagra ads (Cialis, I think, but can't remember which exactly...Levitra??) right along with the Jack Daniels, Heineken, BMW and quit smoking ads on MM...I think ad folk need to realize that The Boomers do more than try to keep getting it up, get drunk and quit smoking...which is all wrong anyway...they might be surprised about us if they actually did some accurate market research. Yes, I've been known to splash a little JD in my toddies, but never smoked in the first place (well in college a little, but never got hooked luckily) and as far as the Cialis...well, not yet anyway...
...now an ad for a product to help memory retention...that I'd buy!!
ha??
Maybe the answer is for MM to jump ship from AMC altogether. I have no idea how any of that works, but there is an article in today's paper about Time-Warner, which owns TNT, and their decision to dump AOL, which will enable them to concentrate more on TNT (among other things) and producing original tv programming, such as "The Closer" "Amazing Grace". MM would be an ideal fit for TNT, if you ask me.
Now how do I get this suggestion to Matt Weiner? Probably not on the AMC site!
I just hope that they don't start changing the days of this show. Remember that it originally started on Thursday nights then moved to Sundays. Sometimes when a network starts moving a show around and changing show times, it can mean the death of the show.
TNT has had some of the best shows on cable in my opinion and I agree with Mambo Deb that this would be ideal for MM, since TNT has more viewers that AMC and a show of this quality deserves better.
You would think with all the awards that this show has won, that AMC would treat MM like their golden child instead of like a bastard at a family reunion.
If they do decide to add more commercials, I just hope that it's not more male enhancement ads. I change the channel every time one comes on, but they seam to be follow me to whatever channel I'm on.
.....Mambo.....I was thinking along those lines, too.....either Fox or TNT.....or maybe HBO has come to regret its original decision and would better serve the interests of the show's future.....
It's sad. Mad Men put AMC on the entertainment map in a VERY short time, and now AMC has taken to devouring its own young.
Maybe even USA Network..."Characters" are "Welcome" there, you know...mavericks also?
I just want the quality to stay intact...I don't want anyone trying to fix something that is very definitely NOT broken...just neglected....poor baby...
I haven't had much time to check in. But I still think about all our fun conversations. Plus this month is my birthday and I usually celebrate all month long. I just want to party all the time, party all the time.. party all the time.....yeah.....
Hi Chelsea!
Happy Birthday to You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Chelsea!
Happy Birthday!
(must be gettin' closer to the "big 5-0" by now!)
And Hi Nora! long time no post.....
@Zerelda. It's been ages since I've been on here.In fact I couldn't remember my password first go round.
I'll become active again once Season 3 begins and it can't happen too soon!
August 16th I might have to find a herbal cigarette and grab me an old fashioned.Sure wish there was a premier party going on in this city...........
I'm pleased they put MM On Demand. I watched Smoke Gets in Your Eyes last night. It really brought it home how well written, acted, produced and designed this show is.
I loaned my Season 1 DVD set to a friend and she has yet to watch it. I think only Maddicts can truly appreciate the fine nuances this series paints.
I have the picture of myself and Bryan Batt taken in December at the Maddicts party hung on my bulletin board.Gail was so kind to send the photos down to me.
I wish all the Maddicts well and I look forward to our intelligent and insightful debates when MM resumes again in August.
Hidey madmanfan4ever! Nice to hear from you.
I wish there was a way you could post that pic of you and Bryan Batt...maybe someone knows how??
I think it was nice of him to drop by the Maddicts party...wish I could have been there....!
I look forward to your posts again in August...take care!
And a warm Hidey back to you SCfan !
I'm glad that there's a hard core contingent of fans keeping the spirit of MM alive here on the site.I love familiarity,it makes this site a little cozy if you know what I mean.
Re: the picture of me and BB,Gail actually mailed me hard copies of about 6 pics.So I don't have them in any jpg. form or I would have posted them back in December.Maybe Katy or Old Fashioned has them in digital format.
Have a safe summer SCfan and I'll look forward to your clever comments come August!
Hard core....that's us!
ha
.....
Yay, fellow Geminis!!!!!
.....madmenfan4ever.....tink!
Hey Dry Manhattan. I see you've been busy writing your witty posts and providing links to topics of interest.
I'll raise my glass to you, bottoms up! See ya around the town.
Thank you Nora for my B-day wishes!! Hey Dry so you a Gemini too? No wonder we get along. So SCfan not 5 - 0 yet but next year. .... Yikes it's getting closer.
Thanks Zerelda for reminding us to check in!
The school year is over, so I'll finally have more time to hang out in the forum. I don't know if I can wait until August 16th, though! Why so late? It's so mean! I guess the blog and the DVDs will have to tide me over until then...
Cheers to all the Maddicts!
Hi Everyone:
Sorry that I've been negligent here but definitely have not forgotten all of you and our show. Will be back on board soon, I promise.
Not negligent, was, just busy....it happens.
...looking forward to your posts....
.... you, too, hanna, but already told you that on another thread....we're starved for the younger point of view!
I like the Margo Channing quote, and it really does feel that way. MW literally keeps us on the edge of our seats-we could never guess what is going to happen next. Not in some hackneyed, haphazard kind of way, either, he always leaves me wondering how I could have missed the clues. Nothing is never out of character; he is simply brilliant and makes it look effortless!
Love your posts, too, always insightful and thought provoking.
Yes, I am hooked, so I watch the re-runs DVR them, burn them to disk and watch them again. I have pre-ordered season 2 from Amazon.com and will watch all the shows again with the commentary.
