Absence makes the heart grow eager

I miss my show...

By "my show" I don't mean some lame, reality-blurring play on my username, it's just that I LOVE this show so much--the actors/characters, writers, aesthetics--that I've become possessive.

user-pic

Ditto... or Xerox...

user-pic

Me three....sigh....

I am seriously missing my favourite programme of the current century...You lucky Maddicts only have to wait until the 27th of July to get your fix. We are open ended here with no new start date as yet. We usually come in about half way through the current series so I reckon about early September (O No! I can't last till then, surely) Take pity folks.

user-pic

Well, EP, it's actually worse than that, since it's August 16 for our fix, but, you DO have our pity...try to be strong, I know it won't be easy! Do you at least have On Demand -- or some way to watch re-runs -- to attempt to save your sanity? I so empathize....

And, DickWhitman, DoubleDon, and z,....Me four!

Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhh....sniff.....sniff.....
Blubber.....snoooooooof (blowing nose)

.....You are so funny.

I didn't see these anywhere else here, but there was an upbeat article on Season 2 published today, and I guess the FULL Rolling Stone interview I wasn't able to access online before....

Definitely worth checking out.....it's long, and much of it about Season 3!

The Mind Behind "Mad Men"
Will Sterling Cooper move to L.A.? Are Don and Betty unraveling? Creator Matthew Weiner on what's in store for TV's best show

.....Was it Auburn Annie who mentioned advertising and the world shifting focus from east to west coast?

This is from the the interview.....

Speaking of California, as the Sixties go on, obviously the nexus of culture is moving from New York to San Francisco. Will there be an L.A. office of Sterling Cooper?

I can't tell you if we're going to go to California in Season Three, but as a show, we're following how the Sixties were about the rise of Los Angeles and the decline of New York. People talk about San Francisco but it was really Los Angeles, and I wanted to show that. In 1960, New York is the center of everything, and by 1975 New York is bankrupt and by 1977 it's the most dangerous place in the United States.

In Los Angeles, there were the Watts riots and obviously a lot of economic turmoil there, but at the same time, every cultural aspect that dominated the United States in the Sixties was coming from there, whether it was hot rods or roller disco. Also, I always want the audience to be worried that I'm going to pick up and move the show somewhere. Because, you know, I might.

Thanks, Dry, for posting these articles. You know, I think I enjoy reading Matt Weiner's comments about Mad Men just as much as I enjoy the actual show. He just brings everything to life in your mind. I wonder if he plans on writing any fiction in book form. He would be an author I would love to read.

user-pic

Love those links, Dry...and yes, z, I would love it if Matt took to writing Mad Men Books...also a theatrical movie -- or three! -- would be great...they could do them in the off-seasons...wouldn't it be lovely to see all of those folks on the "big screen"?

I haven't seen "The Day The Earth Stood Still" yet...plus I understand JH's screen time was minimal.

...oh well, we can dream, can't we?

user-pic

In addition to the seconds, thirds and fourths I'll 5th that. There's a million things I can say but I'll refrain and keep it short and just say I absolutely love the fact that finally there's intelligence in media in this little nook we've discovered. I love having a tv show that simply lets your mind operate. They don't hold your hand, they allow you to see and discover for yourself the layers that are apparent in everything. What this is is something that is lacking in television: good art.

I can probably speak for everyone when I say you really feel intellectually alive with Mad Men.

user-pic

I think the best quote I ever read from Matt Weiner was when he said, "Everyone has a reason for what they do...good and bad". You can see that when you watch Mad Men. Each character's actions (good and bad) have a reason behind it. He just allows us to see the reason a little bit at a time. It keeps us craving for more. Cheers!

user-pic

.....I'm behind, z, but totally agree.

That man functions at the genius level of intelligence. His brain is just this prolific cornucopian amalgam of recollection, fact and fantasy.

user-pic

.....Say all the things people do about all the incredible TV being aired right now, but I defy you to argue another series staged and shot more exquisitely.

It's a GORGEOUS show.....just sayin'.....

"Everyone has reasons....."

Heh.

user-pic

It's so very nice to be in the company of all you great posters. This board is something of a godsend...it does kind of keep us together, mentally and spiritually.

Hang in there English Paul. Season 2 DVDs are supposed to be available on Amazon in July. If you have access, maybe you could pre-order a copy for solace.

user-pic

.....Greg.....I just read how much the writers love tossing the flakey breadcrumbs onto our paths.....

I think the quote went something like "Those who pay attention are rewarded...."

Yet another show (Burn Notice) has just proclaimed itself "The Best Show onTV". Now c'mon, you can't ALL be the best. Especially when we all know which one is REALLY the BEST.

user-pic

flower....so right!

user-pic

.....flower.....LOL!!! No, really....

user-pic

.....roszie.....It's kind of a task to post about two seasons of one show for ten months.

Sometimes it seemed like we were saying the same things over and over and over, but at least there were people to keep things going.

I suppose in light of that it's not a huge surprise we had a tendency to get off track, and were sometimes a little out of control. Idle hands.....

It's been a long, strange break, and I'm getting excited for the new season!!

user-pic

...."a long, strange break"...

...that's like saying that Jon Hamm is marginally nice-looking.....or Pete is a little two-faced....or Joan is moderately attractive....

ha

Yes, we are all coming to the end of the tunnel now and can see the tiny spot of light up ahead....Thank God!

user-pic

...and thanks, rozsie....I greatly enjoy your posts, too...we are one big happy (well, most of the time!) family here!

user-pic

....Before the break, I would never have seen either of us being the people that we have been the past few months.

For one thing, I never knew you were such a crazy nut, but I would say we are all different for the experience.

Seeing that other forum I mentioned before, and all the dirty, underhanded politics, it really made me appreciate this place and you guys.

People are pretty easy-going, and mostly "play nice" here, with a small handful of exceptions.

user-pic

So right, Dry...and it takes one to know one (crazy nut)....lol

Yes, I'm one of those weird conglomerations (reserved upon first meeting and then watch out!!) heee?

I suspect you are somewhat similar, from what I've noticed since being on the board, and that's not a dig. It keeps 'em guessing if nothing else, right?

I agree...Maddicts are easy-going, interesting, and crazy (that last category only has 2 posters in it!) ha!

user-pic

.....I don't know much, but the last ten months or so have been a (trying but) fascinating business, sociological and psychological study.

user-pic

Yes, ...market researchers (are they still called that?) could pay millions for this kind of insight into the human psyche....

......personally, I wouldn't have missed it for the world....warts and all!

user-pic

Thank God no one knows who you are and where to find you, or you would all have been hauled off to the looney bin long ago. I, surely, would have been recognized as the only sane member of this Forum.....(Oh, you think so, do you? Well, of course. Why, what are you suggesting? Oh, I seem to remember a few occasions when you went swimming off the deep end of the crazy pool. Listen here you, I am as sane as sane can get and don't you forget it. I beg to differ.....wait, people are looking - we'll talk about this later.)....where was I, oh, yes, you are all a bunch of nutcakes, but fortunately, anonymous nutcakes, so carry on, my dears, safe in the knowledge that the men in the white coats will never find you...unless Clayton squeals....

user-pic

.....Am I going to have to come over there and separate you??

user-pic

No, no, we're fine.....um....I mean, I am just fine and dandy, yes, indeedy, no mental health issues for me. Move along now, Dry, nothing to see here. Everything is ticketyboo.....(heh, heh, think she bought that?)

user-pic

....You so funny!

All of you.....
