HUBRIS
New word du jour.....

Hubris is what gets me out of bed every day.
A bowl of cornflakes with a big slug of vodka gets me outta bed everyday...
Hubris caused the fall of Satan from the angels.(Jeeze, where did THAT come from? Catechism 40 years ago?)
It is also a stock ingredient in Greek drama.
Oh but of course, Dry!
"...Pride goeth before a fall..."
...raised on that!
I thought hubris was ground up garbanzo beans.....
Though, come to think of it, too much of those beans will get you out of bed in the morning AND probably cause some pretty dramatic moments, Greek or otherwise.....
Yes, Greek drama.
Pathos was the ingredient in drama which was supposed to purge the audience member of hubris ("o'erweening pride") via tears shed.
Safe to say that an American variety of hubris was born with WWII.... culminating in the comeuppance of Viet Nam.
Is that why we're talking about it?
Rasputin-
My take on hubris is that tomorrow morning, when I awake...the opening theme song to my life will be playing somewhere softly in the background. I am the STAR of The Gavin Show...everyone else is either a supporting cast member or an understudy (they WANT to play me). Thus far the ratings have been good-but there is always the threat of cancellation!
A few years ago I read a wonderful line in an op-ed piece-something like:
"You finally grow-up the day you realise no one else is watching your personal TV show...."
....Silly z....That's HUMMUS!
Back to Hubris.....pride before the fall.....
YUP. That's the one.....
Gavin--
Ouch! (-:
Yes, if only life could but be a solipsism! We could have our characters all do our bidding. But, alas! Hell is other people.
(-: ras
.....Gavin, I'll be damned, but you are growing on me.
I say "bullseye," on some of those points. Looking forward to seeing you resolving those conundrums (conundri?) on your own.
(I plan to cheer loudly from the peanut gallery.....)
.....flower.....Crunchety-crunch.....and "hic!"
.....Sorry if this is a re-run, but meet one of the new characters, Lane Pryce (Jared Harris) from The Riches and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.....this is going to be fun!

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Jared Harris is joining AMC's 1960s-set series "Mad Men" in a major recurring role.
On the third season of the acclaimed period drama, set at the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency, Harris will play Lane Pryce, the agency's financial officer.
The show began production on its new season Monday, aiming for an August premiere. He joins returning cast members Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones and Christina Hendricks and guest star John Slattery.
Harris recently appeared in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and in a recurring role on Fox's "Fringe."
