I'm starting to think "when hell freezes over"...!!!

Hey Dry, does this thread qualify for one of your promised "Annoying, Empty, Boring Banter" ones??? I do love those so......

...thanks for the link -- wow, that was back when you could actually understand what the hell BD was singing!!! Which brings to mind --- (ramble alert) --- that awards show quite awhile ago where the cameraman did an extreme closeup of BD and got stuck there for about 5 minutes (or maybe it just seemed that long)...let's face it (pun intended) BD's countenance nowadays is not one you care to see in that much detail ... he was the trooper, I'll give him that...he just kept on singing away even though all that was shown of him was his left (right?) eye for more than half of his song....that was a special moment that has stuck in my mind....pathetic, I know...but it was funny at the time.

user-pic

.....janeeyre....OBVIOUSLY, you are just trying to get on my good side. Good work.

And kudos for the effort too.

SCfan, and z, and D&S.....I prefer to think of it as the "For Those Who Think Young" thread!

Cocktails at 6 sharp! Yippeee!

As to BD - I have recently had a personal epiphany wherein I could never listen to someone else singing Dylan's words.....then I listened and realized I was misguided......

This was an upsetting day - wildlife in distress were involved, which is always a drama-jerker.....

What ELSE was I going to say???

user-pic

Yeah, Dry, "For Those Who Think Young" would be a better name...because WE never thought we were being annoying, empty OR boring, did we?.....only topical, interesting, and incredibly thought provoking (even when we weren't)!

Weeee... Party Party Party!!!!

...see everyone at 6 tonight (at the Cocktail Party Dry's throwing)...I'll bring the garnishes...maraschino cherries (I love the way Tony Curtis says that in Some Like It Hot!), orange, lemon and lime slices, pineapple wedges, olives, coctail onions, and all that JAZZ...let me know if I forgot any.....oh, and those little toothpicks with the little plastic fuzzy ends.

See ya!

.

user-pic

....cocktail onions, I meant.....

.....and No! I didn't start early......heeee

user-pic

oh yeah...celery sticks, mint leaves, strawberries and a few other assorted berries....now is that everything -- garnish-wise, that is???
.
Oh hell, I'll bring a bottle of Bailey's too, since I drank up nearly all of holotta's before....ooops...

user-pic

Bring lots of pineapple and little umbrellas, SCfan, 'cause I want some of those rum drinks like they used to serve at Trader Vic's - never indulged back then, but, hey, I won't be driving tonight, so I might as well find out what it feels like to get snockered on Mai Tais and Pina Coladas, hmmmmm?

I am sure Dry M and/or Drink and Smoke can provide me with a suitable hangover cure for tomorrow's inevitable dawning.....not that they ever suffer from hangovers necessarily, just that maybe they might have heard of one or two good ones, just in passing, at some point, over the years.....

user-pic

...of course, the little umbrellas!... how could I forget those??....you got it...all colors....

and I'll bring all the (hollowed out) pineapples(shells) to hold your tropical drinks, z, to make them authentic!

Who's bringing the goodies???

I vote for some more of that onion-soup-mix dip and chips (Pete's recipe) and some stuffed mushrooms and also some of those baked

Oh! and also some good ol' Chex party mix! Get out those zip loc bags and the Worcestershire sauce!

user-pic

...oops..

"baked sausage balls made with Bisquick and rolled sausage".... I'm getting anxious...

user-pic

....here you go...any takers on these? They're easy to make...just messy!

http://cooking.consumerhelpweb.com/comfortfoods/bisquick-sausage-balls.htm

user-pic

.....That's a lot of sausage.

Sausage scares me.

user-pic

...with the current swine flu scare, don't blame ya, Dry... although one recipe (batch) makes hundreds of them.

...back in the '60's they just made 'em and didn't worry about cholesterol, fat, all that no-no stuff....they just ate what tasted good and to hell with what it had in it that would kill you! ha??

In looking at all the olden-times recipes ingredients (1960's "party food" recipes) it's a wonder folks didn't keel over in mid-bite at parties! Probably did!

user-pic

.....Even the name is scary!

PS - They said on the news you can't get it from eating pork.

user-pic

Did someone mention Happy Hour? ;o) I have skipped over this thread only because of the insanity of the question. Then I saw Dry's name and knew there had to be a party going on inside. Nothing beats a blog Happy Hour. Especially when Mad Men goes dry. Cheers! ;o)

user-pic

....Dry, was that an X-rated post????

I mean, are you referring to the poor old piggy's privates?

No dignity at all for the deceased porkers of the world.....

haw

Yes, "they" say pork is safe...I hope they're right...

Oh, btw, there's so much of the Bisquick in the recipe that it offsets all the pork's richness...they're actually pretty good in small doses...as party food -- with a lot of raw veggies accompanying.

Hi Drink!

; - }

Here's a Rob Roy (made in honor of Bryan Batt's "60's-drink-making-appetizer-fixing" appearance months ago on Martha Stewart--never watch her, but I had to to see Sal!) They made the Rob Roys look so delicious. He even brought his own set -- well, they were from his shop in New Orleans "Hazelnut" -- of vintage cocktail glasses.

Enjoy!

user-pic

....isn't anybody going to mention Alec Baldwin's old SNL sketch about his "schweaty balls"??

P.S. Drink, did you ever go over to hulu.com and watch the old SNL's Dan Ayckroyd/ Fred Garvin clip....? Funny as it gets, I still say.

Sorry to be so OT, but, that's the way the sausage ball crumbles.....

user-pic

I did see the clip on hulu, SCfan. ;o) Ayckroyd in those polyester clothes, glasses and hat....priceless. Great acting by Baldwin and his schweaty balls skit as well. Here's the clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9BqNOjPJxw
Cheers!

user-pic

....not to mention Garrett Morris showing up as his pimp!

....coming to check on his prize stud!

Poor Margot Kidder...felt sorry for her a bit trying to keep a straight face!

I wish SNL was that funny now....sigh

Thanks for the AB sshweaty balls skit...just classic!

user-pic

Thanks, hadn't seen the Schwetty balls skit in a long time. Just hysterical, and how they all kept those straight faces is beyond me. Even funny in the beginning when Molly talks about her excessive rat problem. Misshapen, but really big, delicious Schwetty balls, mmmmm, good. Let's get some for the party, SCfan!

user-pic

Yes, z...in watching the "old" (meaning actually funny) SNL stuff, I marvel at the fact it WAS live and they couldn't "stop tape" even if they had actually lost it and gone hysterical --- but, they always seemed to manage somehow, and with some of that material I truly don't see how they ever did it.

The Todd and Lisa Lubner (sp?) and Mrs. Lubner sketches -- with her Norge refrigerator and Tang with egg salad sandwiches (Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, and Jane Curtin) are another good example in addition to the above mentioned classics -- and remember when Dan A. was the repairman for the "good old Norge" and Todd and Lisa were hysterical over his "plumbers' pants" display!? That show, at it's best, was as good as it gets, I think.

user-pic

on hulu.com...just search

nerds broken fridge

..."the full moon came out suprisingly early" --as "Todd" said

Good Lord, now I'm thinking about when the Coneheads went on Family Feud!

user-pic

You know it is good when it stays with you for so long. Bill Murray and Gilda - so funny. And Jane Curtin in her housecoat - "Poor Mr. Lubner - he was born without a spine, you know." Mrs. Lubner is a natural blonde - you can tell by the hair on her arms, according to Todd.

Yes, SCfan, it is all coming back to me - excuse me while I go watch for awhile.....

user-pic

....me, too, z! Think I'll watch their Prom skit next....did Lisa ever get rid of those damn adenoids???

Poor Todd and his pants trouble...he was well on his way to a case of Fred Mertz Pants (heisted up to armpits) but not quite there, yet...although his hooded sweatshirt is quite dapper....

user-pic

Thank you all for the memories! I've been a huge SNL fan through the good years, and the not so good.
Schwetty balls...I still roar when I watch that skit! There are sooo many laughs. I watch the "Best Of SNL" DVDs now, and still get hysterical at skits I've seen over and over.
When you think about the number of stars that show launched...it's unreal!

user-pic

Wish I could locate the skit with Chris Farley and Co. and their "Da Bullsssssss/Da Bearsssssss" sports party sketch....CF giving himself the Heimlich when he'd get "another" heart attack from eating from that bunch of ribs, hot dogs, cheeseburgers and any and all assorted such heart-cloggers they had spread before them!

Also, him as the "motivational speaker" who lived "in a van down by the river"

!!!!!!!!!

user-pic

Thank ya, kindly, Drink! (she said with her eyes still watering and her sides still aching)....

Well, I've finally seen something almost as repulsive as Pete's tennis nutters....Chris Farley's coconut bra!

EEeeeeek!!!

LOL
