Don cheap?

Why do so many people think Don is cheap? The house, the horse , the wardrobe and the choice of restaurants?

I think if anything he is a spender...I doubt very much the Drapers have much in the bank.

I don't think Don is cheap, rather selfish and with misplaced priorities. See the budget below, items listed in order of importance:

Don Daper's Monthly Expenses:
1. Money for secret stash (possible get-away if necessary, angry girlfriends, potential blackmailers)
2. Money for Anna Draper (hush money)
3. Alcohol and cigarettes
4. New car for Don; wife's old junker just fine
5. Betty's dresses (keeps her off Don's back)
6. Horseback riding for Betty (cheaper and easier than psychiatrist, or talking to wife)
7. Household expenses (morgage, groceries, home maintenance, maid, child-related expenses)
8. Entertainment (not much out-of-pocket is required because most socializing, even with Betty, is charged to SC expense account; otherwise, free or inexpensive activities, i.e., picnic, child's birthday, cards at home)

See? He's not cheap!!!!!!!!!

With a life THAT complicated, DD doesn't have the luxury of being cheap!

Part of me hopes he takes his 12.5% and walks away, preferably to California.

As much as I respect the institution of marriage, I can't decide if that should be with, or without the family.

Dry...he should take off to Cali --- alone --- and hang out with Joy and the bunch and get raging cases of the clap and the syph and come crawling home to Betty and then get the cure and then be good awhile and then go back to alternating between Midge --- and Joan !!!! (why not?) and then....whew....when oh when is S3 going to get here....July hurry up.......
