Who said it? - Season One

I love this game - so for all the true Maddicts out there, let's do lines from Season One only. Rules are simple - in your response, repeat the line and say who said it to whom and in what situation. Bonus points if you know the episode name and number.

"Let's take this slow. I don't want to wake up tomorrow pregnant."

Nancy...wow...my memory is so rusty but, was it Rachel to Don when he showed up at her apt. right after his "cover" got blown by Pete to Bert (the wonderful "Who cares?" scene) ?

That's probably too obvious, though, but just a guess...

user-pic

Nancy,
I believe that Don said that to Pete in the office hallway at Sterling Cooper when Pete was trying really hard to get on Don's good side. It was Season 1, Episode 1, "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes."

This should be a fun thread. Thanks for starting it.

user-pic

"Let's take this slow. I don't want to wake up tomorrow pregnant."

Neglected to repeat the line, so just add this to the previous post!

user-pic

"They call a girl like her a lobster because all the meat is in the tail."

user-pic

Ken Cosgrove to Harry and Pete when he watched Peggy walk by in the office. The episode? I'll never get bonus points for the episode number. Cheers! ;o)

"Good luck in your next meeting!"

user-pic

Hi D&S! Missed ya....but, I understand and figured you were probably just trying to avoid all the flying chairs!!! ha

"Good luck in your next meeting!" Roger (I think!) to the Kodak guys after Don's slide show. Don't know the epi number but it was called "The Carousel"

user-pic

nope...change that to "The Wheel"

user-pic

Hey, SCfan! Yes, there were some flying chairs on a few of those threads...WOW! But, back on topic (had to throw that in, LOL) You're close...it was Duck who said, "Good luck in your next meeting". The look on the faces of the Kodak people..priceless!! The Wheel episode is probably the only episode I remember by name. I still feel it is Mad Men's best episode...so far! Cheers! ;o)

user-pic

Me, too, D&S...how will they ever top it?

user-pic

Drink and Smoke, yes it was Ken Cosgrove to the other boys - Pete clocked him for it. It was episode 9, The Shoot.

user-pic

chopin47 and D&S, didn't you love it when that decking was going on between Pete and Ken and Roger and Don just stood over in the corner taking it all in for a minute, then Roger (in typical Roger Style) says to Don so matter of factly:

"So...where do you want to go for lunch?"

user-pic

Yes, SCfan another great Emmy deserving scene in Mad Men! Roger gets all the great lines and can play a straight man that was (and still is) Emmy worthy. Talk about reality humor...just the way it was back in the 60's. You said bad things and you got "clocked" (good one chopin47) Cheers! ;o)

default userpic

actually roger asked don if he wanted a ride to the train station.

user-pic

SCfan, I loved that scene - Roger and Don walk past the boys, stand at the elevator talking, completely ignoring "the boys" who are fighting in the background. I thought it spoke volumes about their attitudes towards the guys - total disinterest. And it's true about fistfights and scuffles in the workplace in those days - it did happen frequently. Especially after those 2 or 3-martini lunches! :)

It also makes me think how different the work place is now - the police would be called and they would be all thrown in jail, lose their jobs, the video would be on Youtube by the time they got to jail, and everyone else in the office would be filing lawsuits for suffering and mental pain.

user-pic

Interesting observation there Chopin. Yes Don and Roger are always above the fray. Bet you are glad to work from home.

user-pic

“Those people in Manhattan? They are better than us. They want things they haven’t seen.”

user-pic

Zerelda -- "Those people..." was it Rachel in her first meeting with SC?

user-pic

No, Nancy, 'twasn't. It was a female, though.

user-pic

I've got this one, Zerelda! ;o) Peggy said to her date. Didn't her date drive a potato chip truck or something like that? Again, I fail to make any bonus points...can't remember the episode. Cheers!

user-pic

Oh, D&S, you are so right. 'Twas in the "Indian Summer" episode, and Peggy got mad at her date because he said advertising was just people screaming at you all the time....or something like that.

user-pic

"There he is. I see him!"

user-pic

"Ask me anything."

user-pic

....."Well, she's in for it!"

user-pic

.....Nancy.....Was that Don Draper talking to Bobby that time in the bedroom?

user-pic

I give up, Dry? Spill......

Here's mine..."Here comes the Welcome Wagon".

user-pic

.....Pete to Peggy about Peggy's new secretary.....

Wasn't yours from The New Girl with Joan standing at Jane's desk, commenting on the approach of The Greek Choir (or at least part of it)?

[I cheated - I remembered the scene, but couldn't remember who said it, and found that you posted this last August!! :) ]

user-pic

Did you guys give up on "There he is. I see him!" up there?

hint: the person who said it is no longer on the show

user-pic

Yes, Dry you are right (even though you cheated!) One of my favorite scenes and I guess I must have thought it was worth another round. That scene is what makes Mad Men..well Mad Men. SCfan, you're going to have to give us another clue...

user-pic

It was spoken by a child in "Nixon vs. Kennedy" episode.....

user-pic

Give up?

user-pic

another hint: the person saying it was talking about DD

user-pic

.....Sally?

user-pic

Nope...good try, though, Dry.

one more hint: it was a boy not a girl (and it wasn't Bobby)

user-pic

Want me to spill?

user-pic

Let's see...someone who isn't on the show anymore and male? Chauncey? (This should wake up some bloggers who have fallen asleep on us!)

user-pic

Was it Adam Whitman when he saw Dick/Don through the window of the train when he brought what they thought was Dick's body back?

user-pic

Yes, Mambo, it was poor little Adam!

That scene has always stuck in my mind because no one believed him and the sight of him running after the train trying to get Dick/Don's attention---so heartbreaking.

user-pic

I guess that is why you are called SCfan! ;o) You definately know your MM episodes. Cheers! ;o)

user-pic

Thanks, D&S...but I remembered that one because it made an impression on me (I never forget the ones that make me cry!)...just like the one with Don and Bobby (Don refusing to spank him)---that MW knows how to pull the heartstrings, no?

user-pic

ROGER SAID IT TO BERT AND DON IN BERT'S OFFICE IN RELATION TO THE PROPOSED MERGER AND NEEDING TO MOVE FORWARD CAUTIOUSLY-ESPECIALLY SINCE IT COMES BY WAY OF DUCK!?

CHEERS.

user-pic

OOPS
i'm way off.
the line was from season ONE.
i can HEAR roger saying tho'
hmmm
