.....That is a great still - love that shot.....

Check out this AMC sub-post from last July.....

I just watched season 2 episode 1, and wanted to know if anyone else noticed that Joan's boyfriend in the first episode is not the same man that she was dating later in the season? The guy in in the first episode is very dark haired, and the guy later in the season is kind of sandy brown haired, all american football type. Did anyone else notice this, and was there any explanation during the season?

UM.....that is an old picture. Season 3 does not have a start date yet (they have not started production).
That picture in Grand Central Station was a promo for season 2....and that date was season 2's start date. Sorry to burst your bubble, but its all wrong.

Great posts.

Did notice that different DR. tamtam...wonder why?

Dry...I remember a topic posted here by AMC right before (I think) Season 2 started telling about how they did that DD "alone in a crowd" GCS shot...it's still on here somewhere I guess, don't have the slightest idea how to find it, though. They superimposed him into the crowd shot someway...it was fascinating to read about how it was composed.

.....Sandy and SCfan.....I think this is it…..Mad Men Season 2: The Evolution of an Ad Campaign.....

In looking back for various items, I'm rereading some of the older Blog posts and also the forum posts. There's some very good stuff back there.

SCfan.....Are you using the Talk Topics list at the top of the page? There are also archives and tag lists you can check if you are looking for something specific.....

user-pic

.....SCfan and tamtam.....Not only that, but the character of Paul was played by another actor in the pilot.

Michael Gladis is such a great choice for that role. He has an unbeatable chemistry with the other actors, and I find his unique relationship with Joan very interesting also.

Part of me wonders if there is something in the future for them but, as I understand it, Sheila will play a larger part in Season Three than she did in Season Two.....anyone feel free to correct me if that was misinformation.....

user-pic

Thanks for that link, Dry...the way they combined those shots was seamless, no?

Yes, Dry, there is indeed "some very good stuff back there" in those old posts....did you run across that old forum where we were all thinking of alternate outcomes for Joan's upcoming wedding (to keep her from hitching up with that dr/louse)?

Also, that old (ancient) forum with all the old commercials (posted by "wryter1"...remember him?)

We all used to be such a easy going bunch, didn't we???

user-pic

Actually, Dry, Michael Gladis was in the pilot as Paul Kinsey. I agree, though, he's well cast!

user-pic

.....zebra.....To be honest, I don't have the DVDs and haven't looked back at Season 1 yet. More importantly, I don't remember it either, but I read this recently on the Basket of Kisses website.....

Roberta Lipp: How did the role come to you?

Michael Gladis: Paul Kinsey? Well, originally I was “Dick”, a different role, for the pilot.

and

MG: And then I got cast as Dick, and did the pilot.

Like I said, I’ll have to go back at some point and check it out….

user-pic

BTW did you notice that DD also asked where Dale was. That 's the character who gets fazed out.
So glad for the day-light saving time it actually came on @ 9:00 Hawaii time. Whoa-hoa!!!

user-pic

.....Hey, ho (Hey Ho?)

Yes, the mysterious Dale.....I plan on looking into that one very soon.

Sounds like quite the running gag.....

user-pic

Who was Dale? Was he the guy sleeping in the boardroom?

How would you guys describe Paul? Kind of a pompous know-it-all?

user-pic

Yep, Paul is that and more...he also thinks he's cool and with it but he's just a wannabe. Not to mention he has "a big mouth" (per Joan) and likes to kiss and tell.

user-pic

I hope somehow Freddy Rumson comes back, with the exception of the incontinence problem, Im the Freddie where I work. However, I cant seem to be able to play Mozart on my zipper.

user-pic

.....Dale was a fifth character in the so-called "Greek Choir" comprised of Paul Kinsey, Harry Crane, Ken Cosgrove, and Sal Romano.

Apparently "Dale" was quite a likeable character and has something of a cult following who would like him brought back.

user-pic

A cult following, your kidding. He didn't seem to have that many lines or even be that memorable, go figure.
What kind of cult follows him?
Yeah, Chelsea he's the one sleeping in the boardroom.
As far as Paul goes, kiss and tell types totallly turn me off. He probably told about Joan because he couldn't believe she'd be with anyone like him. Bet he got her liquor'd up.

user-pic

Interesting Dry who would have thunk. And Hollota remember what a creep Paul was when he told everyone how old Joan was.

Hmmm Liquor how many times have you been to the HR office....

user-pic

.....Ho.....A small one!

As to Paul, I think you are right about his reasons for blabbing. I really get the feeling that he comes by his transgressions mostly innocently, out of immaturity or insecurity, rather than calculated pretentiousness.

While I did think his posting of Joan's license was a particularly cruel thing to do to a 33-year-old, unmarried woman, for that day and age, you have to take it in the context that they have an ongoing duel.

I loved the look on Paul's face when Joan got her revenge by informing him, in front of everyone, that he would not be going to California with Don Draper, and asked for his tickets and badges.

Hilarious.

user-pic

..Dry........followed up with "is there any more cake".
Joan was celebrating the payback. I totally loved it!!

You are so right about Paul. He is immature.
So if Sheila's part supposedly gets bigger in S3,
and she broke up with him while on there trip down south. Ya think they'll get back together?

OMG do you think she could find out she's pregnant??? This would be progressive for the 60"s.
Whadya bet we end the season withanother pregnancy.

user-pic

My theory for season 3 is that Joan will end up with Paul.....he loves that she's mean.....she tried to be good with the Dr fellow, and look what it got her....and I like ol' Paul, even if he is a mess, and a wannabe.....Joan deserves to be herself, not some Dr trophy wife....and what scum that Dr turned out to be!!

user-pic

I don't know about Joan and Paul. I think Joan sees right through him, the poser that he is.

user-pic

.....Ho.....I'd forgotten about that - you are right, that was priceless and very well acted.

As to your and tamtam's theories, I wouldn't rule out anything where Matt Weiner is concerned. He loves to shock.

Chelsea.....I've always thought that they made a good pair. They seem to really "get" each other, and she's probably one of the few people beside Sheila who can handle him. Who knows.

I'm not going to speculate much (I never really do), since 1) it's largely pointless, and 2) I don't want to give Matt any clues as to what we are expecting. He will just write the opposite to freak us out (heh). I am rooting for Freddy to make a return to Sterling Cooper, though.

It's been pointed out here that the seasons' developments are mapped out in the premiere episode, and that the music used in each episode also provides clues as to what will happen. There is a music list for each episode somewhere on the main Mad Men site.

As to Jon and comedy, just guessing that two solid years of constantly talking about tormented Mad Men characters, doing interviews and other publicity, waiting for Matt's contract, etc., they probably all want to take a mental vacation, unlike some people who are just plain OCD about the show.

Nobody here, of course.

user-pic

Now Dry...you know better than to make those mental disorder "diagnoses"! (couldn't resist)

-----even if you are right...about moi anyhow)

HAH!

user-pic

Dry -- Just to clarify: I have the series on iTunes and noticed in the credits that Michael Gladis is credited as "Paul" in "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." (End rolling credits.)

It might have been a different name originally or maybe they changed things at the last minute (or after the fact). Truthfully, you never hear anyone calling him by name in the pilot, though, so who knows?
