Freelance writers
Some are born writers, and some really need to go back to school and stay awake in English class so they can grasp the fine and not so fine points of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and how to construct a sentence that makes sense. Sijukan, is this a joke?

Maybe it's Sanjaya using an alias!
For a moment there, I didn't know what you were writing about until I read that Freelance Writing post. Oh boy, oookkayy. Such a testimonial to excellent writing!
It seems that our website is becoming a trash can for ads and goofy spam posters.
Sijukan...go post on HBO's site.
I truly believe that Sijukan is serious and may be excited about writing. Sounds like a little of broken English in transition. Don't be to hard on our dear friend. I think they were just passing on some information. I know some of the best writers that stumble with their pen, grammer and punctuation.
I don't think were getting a grade for our comments in the technical sense. Besides this is a forum for all of us, and we all get off track and have made typos and some more things. Lighten up you guys! You'll run them off. I could be wrong but I don't think it's that serious. Our writing skills don't determine how much money we have in the bank, now does it? So let's try to not dominate and critique everything everyone does. It's a new year you have to start somewhere and sometime, Why not today.
Pink, are you always this nice to spammers?
Is it a coincidence that the two ads I see below are for "New writers"? I tried to copy them, but can't and they may disappear before I can post this. I think Clayton needs to weed out the spam-ers...this is the second one - the first being for some kind of dating service.
This is, after all, the ManMen site!
No one is perfect and everyone makes a mistake, but that is no reason to be sloppy. Being careless about grammar, punctuation, and spelling when you have been taught their proper usage, is like going around in dirty clothes when you have the means to clean them. It just shows a lack of pride in oneself, and a lack of respect for those who would give anything to have a chance at a proper education.
Standards have been falling right and left in this country, and look at shape we are in. I am not trying to dominate or critique anyone, but I find it so disappointing when people who clearly know better, won't take the time to present their best to the world, even if it is only in an anonymous posting on this forum.
Flowerpower I'm always nice to people, even spammers if that's what you call it. Since this is not my forum and its for Mad Men fans, I think everyone should have a fair shot to express themselves without all of the backwash. What about that Zerelda? If one can choose to write about Red Velvet Cake, one can write about Jokes, one should certainly be able to write about writing. The online staff for this forum has the right to decided what is appropriate for their forum and what is not. Maybe the person is presenting his/her best to the world and has not had the opportunity that others had. Then what? Rozsie, I'm sure Mr. Clayton Neuman has more important things to do than weed out spammers. No group of people should have a monopoly of a public forum and try to weed out others because they don't click to others standards. I don't believe that AMC/Mad Men Executives would want that either, do you?
Uh oh...I feel an SCfan/Polar Bear type tiff brewing between z and pink! (just a little funnin')
I feel it's different when us Maddicts post off topic...we're here all the time....and are posting to keep our forum schlepping along until Season 3 starts.
At least that's the case with me and my "jokes"--- etc., lame as they are.
Sijukan posted with the specific intent of advertising something (which I guess would be on topic --- in a way)
JMHO
That's not Funny SCfan! I'm serious and have a great deal of respect for Zerelda, I think she is an
excellent writer, so are you SCfan and many others in this forum. Just because we are here all the time, is it fair and right to make others unwelcome because he/she is not saying what we would like to read. Just take the time to look at the website you maybe interested in doing some freelance work for a few bucks and most of all it's relative.
When we post our comments we are writing, I have never seen such a variety of great writers with so much flavor. Each one of you bring something great to this forum and some have been recognized by the producer and editors as well as being rewarded for your talent. Let's not get above ourselves especially at this level. Remember: "The people you meet on the way up are the same ones you'll meet on the way down!" Chill out!
Pinkpen, I am not trying to weed anyone out. I went back and reread the original post on freelance writing. I do agree with your assessment that it reads somewhat like "broken" English. One has to wonder if the freelance writing referred to is done in another language, as the writer clearly has a few problems with English. I guess he/she is trying to drum up business for another site. That this was posted on the Mad Men forum I still find puzzling, but I never asked anyone to have it removed.
I enjoy reading the posts on this forum. This is the only forum I ever bother reading, as a matter of fact. The folks who submit comments, whatever the subject, have many different styles of expressing themselves. That, in itself, provides half the enjoyment. I don't know why I get so frustrated over poor writing skills. Perhaps I was an English teacher in another life. Whatever the reason, I do know that I would not want to censor anyone's writing on this forum or have them banished from the site.
If I have offended anyone by my earlier posts, I am truly sorry. That was not my intent.
I apologize, pink...and truly, I was only funnin' (said so in the post) & if my attempt at humor failed and instead was offensive, I humbly apologize for that as well.
I would be the last to make any poster feel unwelcome and the first (or among the first) to welcome any new "Maddicts". I, too, love the diversity and wit of everyone's posts, yours most definitely.
Please, know I am truly sorry if I offended you, pink, never meant to, just clumsy, I guess.
I appreciate your apologies "Z" and "SC" on behalf of the unknown Sijukan. I'm not offended, I was just trying to open your eyes and minds. The last thing I want is for us to be at odds. That's with any Maddict or anyone else for that matter. Life's too short to be NEGATIVE. I too would like to apologize if I offended any of you as well. You're all such good people. I plan to be with you Maddicts for a while, we're so close to Season 3. Who else would understand what I'm talking about. A big Mad Man hug to all of you from Don & Roger! smile.
No need to apologize to me, pink...as one Maddict who has been flamed in the past (as most of us have I dare say), I understand completely where you're coming from in defense of Sijukan.
"so close to Season 3"...? From your post to Matt Weiner and Co.'s eyes/ears!
Come on, July!
On a lighter note, SCFan, What happened to Sandra Dee? who's the new girl? I missed a few days and I didn't get the scoop.
holotta, I alternate avatars every few months because I've been accused of looking like both Sandra Dee and Colleen Corby (current avatar)....people would comment I did...never saw it myself....but there are worse people to be accused of looking like, I guess.
SCFan, I hate to sound clueless but, who is Colleen Corby? What was she in I would recognize?
People used to tell me I looked like Geena Davis until a few years back and then it changed to Nicole Kidman. The latter is a little closer for coloring especially, and my eyes are brown not blue, but I'm 5'10 and Nicole is 5'8ish. Besides the fact she's probably a size 2 and I'm a L. lol
Sure it's spam. This clown is trying to drum up business.
You're not "clueless" at all, holotta, Colleen was a brown-eyed, brunette teen fashion model in the 50's thru '70's who was on the cover of Seventeen a lot and inside it even more, and on covers and inside of lots of other "teen" oriented mags, and some catalogs, too. I've never had her dark hair (redhead, like Joan!) but do have the brown eyes.
She was always wearing Bobbie Brooks or Gay Gibson brand clothes or Ship and Shore blouses, it seemed. She was arguably the first "supermodel"---or maybe that was Jean Shrimpton--- or Suzy Parker ??? ha
Hey, not bad at all (to be told you look like either Geena D.or Nicole K.)---both great looking, I think. With your height, sounds like you're in the height range wanted for models, no?
Someone has a website for Colleen Corby I think, it has lots of pics and info. really a trip down memory lane. I think her sister Molly Corby was a model too.
I do have a tendency to tell more than someone might want to know, but since you asked me, I just got rolling. lol
Make that green eyes...I just looked at a video of her (CC) on you tube and they looked green to me! oh well....
I think some people are new to forum-type exchanges and do not know what spam is?
So forgive me for stating the obvious, but Spam is electronic junk mail. It is the annoying commercial that plays a zillion times on your TV, it
is the religious zealot who comes to your door, the flyers left on your car, etc. Right now my computer shows 943 blocked. Sometimes a few get past anyway.
Pinkpen, I couldn't disagree with you more. This is a public forum but it is specifically for fans of Mad Men to post about the show and topics of interest to us. The "Freelance Writers" post is a definite advertisement and and it deserves no place here and there is no reason to be nice to an intruder. Would you thank someone for breaking into your house? Because of course you would never want to be negative!
In my line of work, I go to several message boards to trade thoughts with colleagues and our boards are frequented with this type of spam from overseas vendors trying to solicit our business. The poor sentence structure and phrasing is a dead giveaway.
Gotta agree, flower and unforked....absolute, unadulterated....SPAM.
Sorry, pink, but it's just the truth.
: - )
You're missing the point unforkedtongue and flowerpower. I'm saying give all people on this forum the opportunity to say whatever they choose to say. My concern is how people talk too others because everyone doesn't always talk about Mad Men. They talk about anything their heart desires. Let the monitors of this forum worry about the spam. As for you Ms.SCfan you don't know what side of the fence to be on do you? A bit confused? You have been back and forth with your comments based on whatever someone else says.
Trying to keep things stirred up as you tried with me & Z. Everytime someone says something you agree with what they say? Read your entries on this page, go to Sijukan's page and look at you comment there and you're constantly are saying sorry pink this and I understand that. Please save your apologies I understand you loud and clear. It's All Good! Really it's doesn't merit all of this and I'm a true believer it's okay to agree to disagree. "A double minded person is unstable in all his/her ways" So I'm done with this one, I said what I had to say and you all can say what you want. Being rude and nasty isn't necessary. No matter what the topic is. Thank God Season 2 reruns start March 8th. I think were getting " Forum Fever" Chow.
1. flowerpower, unforkedtongue, zerelda, SCfan, MadMenSuze, rozsie, jamm54, all are of the opinion it was Spam...
2. pinkpen does not believe it was Spam, but believes the poster has the right to post it even if it was... oh, and we (especially me) are being "rude", "nasty" and "double minded" (that last one is specifically me) oh, and "unstable" (just little ol' me on that one, too)
Does that about cover it?
And as for "Ms. SCfan" taking the bait...not a chance.
And please, it's "Ciao", not "Chow". Italian for so long, aloha, hi, later and whatever.
So "Ciao" for now.
All this from one long-gone spammer...hard to believe.
Thanks for the correction flowerpower, I though Chow meant food, it was time to eat for me. I don't know Italian that well, I'll remember that one. Who's the long gone spammer Sijukan? Told you it wasn't that serious. By the way that does covers it!
Back to the forum. Glad that's over, moving right along.....
I guess what determines whether it's "serious" or not is at which end of the accusations one finds oneself, huh?
I wonder how you would feel, pinkpen, if I had written your 2-22 post and directed all that venom at you?
The reason I have waited so long to answer your questions is that I was making a valiant attempt to "turn the other cheek"---since we're quoting from the Bible, I noticed.
As for my not knowing what side of the fence to be on and being confused...I never flip-flopped about what I thought the topic to be (spam)..and as far as keeping things stirred up...go back and read this page and see who is the one telling everyone what to think and preaching.
As for constantly saying I'm sorry, yes, I apologized to you because I regretted the fact you seemed to take offense at my saying the comments between you and zerelda reminded me of Polar Bear's and my exchanges on the other forum (my ill-thought-out "Funny Jokes" one) That was simply an observation. There was nothing meant to stir up anything...period. Any Maddicts who've been posting even a few months hopefully will have noticed I attempt to be peacemaker if anything...never ever (on purpose anyway) being "rude", "nasty" or "double minded".
I've been justly accused of being some things in my life (quick tempered, over-sensitive to name but two) but never ever of being "double minded" I will let my posts speak for themselves on that (whether I am guilty or not)
And as for being unstable...hell, I've never denied being nuts. I enjoy it...crazy people are a hell of a lot more fun than self-appointed preachers.
Well, you "said what you had to say" and so did I...tried not to, but I've never been able to leave a conflict unresolved. Maybe that's why I've been married over 32 years...I just can't not have the last word.
I know you feel like I've let you have it with both barrels. Just think how my poor husband feels!
Well, as he says, "I always know where I stand."
Just checking in and trying to keep up with all the posts. I just want to say that I think SCfan is one of the nicest posters here. She makes everyone welcome and I believe she was just joking about a rift between Z and Pink. Sometimes things are taken out of context when they are in written form. (See a previous post between Ms. Minx and the grouchy Bear or was it Silver being grouchy can't remember). But everyone is entitled to their opinion.....
However, I don't like spammers either and I hang up on telemarketers.....
Now I would like to mention that I am from Nigeria and want to make sure my new bank account is working correctly. If everyone would send me a check for $1,000 and I will then deposit it my direct deposit account then I promise to of course send it back to everyone plus I will add another $500 to you for you trouble in helping me make sure my bank account is working correctly.... LOL
Yikes I hope the FEDS know I'm only joking!!!
Chelsea is only joking...I can vouch for that!
Well, Chelsea, thanks for your nice comments.
I do make an effort to not offend...sometimes it backfires, I guess.
Yes, I was joking when I made my little comment up there...Polar Bear and I were in the midst of a contest to see who could be the biggest smart ass (on my Funny Jokes thread) and I just made an impulsive comment on this thread comparing that to pinkpen and zerelda...since you'll notice they are the ones who were arguing mildly there at the first of this page...sometimes I pipe up when I should just shut up and I am the first to admit it. I should have let z and pink just discuss and not made my smart little comparison, in retrospect. Hindsight is definitely 20/20.
If pinkpen comes back here and reads this I just want her to know that I respect her right to defend Sijukan (who is long gone and probably totally unaware of the hornets' nest he/she laid the foundation for!) but I do agree with her in that we all will just have to agree to disagree about spammers being welcome on our board...pure and simple.
Well, I am standing solidly behind everything I posted earlier, and I ain't backin' down for nobody, no where, no how. So there!
Really, though, how boring would this forum be if we all totally agreed with each other about every little thing? Every time someone posts an opinion, and we all jump in with our differing views, it makes for a fascinating discussion. Even a spat now and then is entertaining, as long as we hold no grudges. So, SCfan, you just keep on piping up whenever the spirit moves you. As Pinkpen said, it's all good, right?
.....SCfan.....In response to your request, I made some calls in an attempt to get a message to 57, but met with zero success.
Let me know if you want details, or I can give you the data I have, and maybe you could do better since you are from there.
(Sorry for the OT.)
z, I have nothing against us all discussing and disagreeing to our hearts' content...what I have an issue with is when some poster decides every other poster has to think what they think...and makes rude, unjustified comments when they don't...and I didn't back down in my most recent post--- I just spoke my mind in response to getting sand thrown in my face.
I continue to believe Sijukan's topic was spam and I've never wavered from that belief.
I have always enjoyed pinkpen's posts and was taken aback when she decided we (esp. me) needed lecturing on tolerance. I've always leaned toward letting things just roll off my back...but this time...in spite of the fact that I knew it "didn't merit all this" I felt compelled to reply. Whaddayagonnado? It happens.
It IS "all good" and I hold no grudges....said my piece...and look forward to all the wonderful, unique Maddicts' posts to come....let's face it, me "piping up whenever the spirit moves me" will not be a problem!
Sure, dry...if you want, go ahead and tell what details you've found as to 57...frankly, I'm at a loss as to how you were able to do as much as you already have.
I've e-mailed AMC's PTB and got zero...maybe there's some rule about giving out our e-mails to each other--- coming from their records on us...but, I asked that they e-mail her directly and have yet to hear back.
You'd think they'd at least post on the forum (back then when we were asking about her right after that tornado hit) that they would try to contact her. I don't get it at all.
If you want to tell stuff, please do...I'll do whatever I can from here.
Thanks.
Hey Pinkpen don't go away mad just go away. I am joking really I want you back.... I enjoy reading everyone's comments.
On a smaller, more private blog, like Basket of Kisses, for instance, intervention is swift and definitive. The Lipp sisters do not take prisoners.
Expecting other results is not realistic for this particular forum, and any personal contact we've had thus far from the PTB should probably be considered the exception, not the rule. The moderators are doing other things with their time.
The best we can do is ignore the offending elements. Or complain. I thought it was so funny that you guys posted like 35 entries on a spammer's thread! I'm still trying to figure out what the hell is "Tiny Info....?"
As to 57.....What I found led me to stop looking and that's all I'm going to say. I'm taking the fifth right now, because this is a public forum, and I would not want my personal info tracked or analyzed in front of everyone. Let me know if you want to discuss this privately.
What I will say is that I am concerned.
And I miss her perspective.
.....That was weird. An entire paragraph just disappeared.....
The first paragraph should read:
The entire lack of a conduct policy on the AMC forums means that any spammer, troll or any other malignant entity can trample the posters, each other, and the forum as a whole. It's a shame.
On a smaller.....(etc.)
Well, Dry, I appreciate all your efforts to get to the bottom of why our dear 57 stopped posting. I'm completely in agreement on not posting personal info. with identity theft like it is and all that. We are kind of in the position of the ball not really being in our court, I think, at this point.
I feel like, from what you said about being "concerned" that if and when we know something "for sure" (and I don't see how we ever will, with the limited tools that are at our disposal, to try to find out--- and still protect our own internet safety)... just wait and hope she may post again and tell us what's been going on. What else can we really do at this point?
I miss her too, Dry...
Did someone call Pinkpen? Hello, SCfan, Chelsea and fellow Maddicts now you should know me by now, "Wild Horses Couldn't Keep Me Away." What in the Jingles is there to be mad about? Season 2 reruns start Sunday and we'll have many more cyber debates. Z, you're right It's All Good!
The only thing I can think to be mad about is flying to a bank and finding that my funds have be frozen. Now that's something to get mad about.
Correction - been instead of be. The hands are quicker than the eye, especially at this point.
