What DOES make someone sexy?
I just was reading back on some of the previous threads and came across the post of pinkpen (in the Jennifer Aniston thread around Jan. 1) about sexy being "embedded in the person" and (paraphrasing here) no amount of makeup, etc. can give it to them if they don't have it natrually.
I so agree...What do you all think makes a person sexy?
As for me, I say that Jon Hamm is an example of a man having EVERY quality that makes someone sexy. Period. His pic should be in the dictionary after the word "sexy".
What are your thoughts, Maddicts?

Oh hell, can't spell "naturally".....
But, you all know what I meant! lol
SCfan,
You're preaching to the choir here, this would have been my list years ago. I'd say he pretty much nails it across the board. Not sure about the last item but maybe Jennifer can dish sometime :-)
-intelligent
-funny
-considerate
-supportive
-one woman man
-tall,with long legs
-classicly handsome features
-deep voice
-dark hair
-blue/green eyes
-athletic and loves sports
-down to earth
-mature physically and otherwise
-traditionally masculine
-doesn't snore
Well, let's face it, Seagirl...even if he does snore, there are always earplugs!
I can't define "sexy," but I know it when I see it.
You're right, z, when it's there it's obvious!
Oh shoot gals.......!!! I just love MEN! All shapes...sizes.......colors......what else, can't think......just GUYS!!!! Whew, it's warm in here....
SCfan: True true! And a small price it would be pay for otherwise perfection :-)
Everyone watching the SAG show tonight?
Yes, I have the pre-show on now ("red carpet") on "E" and here they are (some of them anyway)!
Just saw Christina with her fiance and now John S. and wife, Talia Balsam, Vincent K., Alison B. and Rich S. all standing there getting interviewed and looking very sharp--no glimpse of JH and Jennifer W. yet...
God, I hope they win the ensemble and all the other SAGs tonight the show is nom for!!!
I think I should change my topic's wording to:
What movie stars (current or classic) do you think are sexy? And why?
My list is:
Current:
Jon Hamm (duh)
John Slattery
Vincent Kartheiser (I can't explain it, he just is sexy somehow--the slimy worm)
Bryan Batt (I can appreciate his looks/appeal even if he is gay!)
Patrick Dempsey
Keifer Sutherland
Classic:
Michael Caine
Paul Newman
Jimmy Stewart (down-home, everyman sexy)
Dana Andrews
Farley Granger
Sean Connery (bad personal beliefs --- likes to slap women --- but, great looking)
Harrison Ford (so hot in "Working Girl")
Cary Grant
Gregory Peck (hot Atticus!)
I've forgetten some, but I'm distracted by my Jon Hamm Watch on this "E" Red Carpet pre-show!)
Saw Michael Caine recently in "Alfie," which, if I am not mistaken, was his first big movie. He was so young and gorgeous, "sexy" doesn't even describe it.
Just watched "Palm Springs Weekend" with Robert Conrad, Ty Hardin, and Troy Donahue. All young and handsome in 1963, but looking at them now, now a sexy bone in any of them. Can't remember if I saw this movie back then, so don't know if I found them sexy at the time. I never could stand Troy Donahue or Robert Conrad anyway, so I doubt it.
I like your" classic" list, SCfan. Add Burt Lancaster for me, will ya, and remove Farley Granger - too pretty for my taste ( I always thought he was gay, but that is probably the "Rope" influence).
My "current" sexy guys would have to include:
Alan Rickman
Colin Firth
William Peterson
George Clooney
Tom Hanks
Pierce Brosnan
I like older guys - what can I say?
While we are on the fascinating subject of sexy men, what about the foreign film stars? There are a ton of English actors I have adored over the years, but when you start talking French, German, Italian, or Spanish, I can't really say there are any I ever found devastatingly attractive. Never cared for Marcello Mastroianni (sp?) or Louis Jourdan (sp?) or Alain Delon. Can't think of any others. What about the rest of my fellow female Maddicts? Any foreign stars you find too sexy for their shirts?
Oh God, yes, z---Burt Lancaster, too. Hot for sure.
Pierce B. also...yummmeeeee
Oh, and z, Tom H. I agree ----esp. in "You've Got Mail" and "Sleepless in Seattle" ... he has that same everyman sexiness as Jimmy Stewart, I think.
Jon H. and Jen W. are on now ("E" SAGs red carpet show)...gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous...sigh Did I say he looked gorgeous?!
She is beautiful, too, as ever. Wish they'd get married and have beautiful babies...although (esp. in Hollywood!) marriage is not a requirement for that, of course.
I loooove his loose, soft hair! Plugged his 30 Rock stuff coming up.
We Maddicts will all be sure to watch, of course!
Hi fellow Maddicts! I was surprised by SCfan's mention of Farley Granger. I had such a teenage crush on him. I spent my allowance on movie magazines looking for pictures of him. But, I think Zerelda is correct about FG's sexual orientation. Oh, well, as a teenager it never crossed my mind.
My "sexiest" list would include:
Colin Firth (The Girl With a Pearl Earring, Pride & Predjudice)
Alan Rickman
Charles Dance
Chris Cooper
William Hurt
Trevor Howard - but only in Brief Encounter
Orson Wells - Third Man
and, of course, Joh Hamm
I know, my list is all over the place, but I don't think just one man can possess all the characteristics that make a man sexy. Isn't it great that we have so many to choose from? I just thought of another one to add to my list: Peter Finch. He was outstanding with Anne Bancroft in THE PUMPKIN EATER.
That's my list, and I'm sticking to it!!!
I, too, think sexiness is embedded in a person. Lots of people are not necessarily overtly good looking or photogenic, but they can be intoxicatingly s-e-x-y, if they have intelligence, humor, confidence, and are passionate about life. I also think that eyes are anyone's sexiest feature.
To me George Clooney is not so much handsome and sexy as he is winsome and elegant and passionate about many important things. He's rather the "uber-Gent"- (umlaut needed here) ala the Cary Grant- of our age.
For me hardcore sexy was Steve McQueen and Richard Burton and Rod Steiger and Alain Delon. Also, Jude Law, Clive Owen and Javier Bardem are volcanically hot these days. I think that Jon Hamm is sexy in a sweet Dean Jones kind of way; but his charachter "Don Draper/Dick Whitman" seems far sexier. Does anyone agree with that decidedly brash statement: that a role can be sexier that the actor who portrays him-in general-not just in the case of lovely Jon Hamm?!
Great and intriguing line of discourse Maddicts!
oh, yeah...I forgot to put Steve McQueen in my list, fancyn!...he was definitely hot and sexy...a supreme example of how someone can be sexy as hell and not necessarily all that great looking.
Oh, and I forgot also on my list to add Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Denny Duquette" from Grey's Anatomy)
I know I know---his coming back as a ghost and having sex with Izzy this season is nuts...sooooo far fetched.
I'm talking about when he was first on the show (back when it was good a year or so ago)...adorable and sexy sexy sexy.
Beauty have nothing to do with being sexy.
Being sexy is about personality all the way and what taste you have.
I like men who behave as real, adult men. I like kind, safe, warm, charming and intelligent people who still dare to have a little fun.
I have met Vincent K. and he really surprised me in a positive way, because he was all those things. So, I find him really sexy, even if I can´t see that in the character of Pete.
Otherwise, I have found characters like "Cracker" sexy. With wit and intelligence but no "looks". And I can´t find women sexy. No matter how much I like them I can´t use that word on them.
So, being sexy for me is a person who have the qualities you need at the moment I guess.
Re: Alain Delon. Did anyone see him in the French film which was released here in the 60s as "Purple Noon"?
He was thin and pretty but when the movie was re-released about ten years ago the New York Times critic called him "extravagantly handsome".
What an excellent thread.
I like a guy with a sense of humor and intelligence. Also if they are tall with a deep voice hmm that doesn't hurt either. So I can see what Marilyn Monroe saw in Arthur Miller.
Howie Long the football player gets my blood racing. I agree with Z. Burt Lancaster oozed sex appeal.
What about Gary Cooper? Clark Gable and yes Jaja Jimmmy Jimmmy Stewart too :-)
Hi Chelsea...I listed Ja Ja Jimmmmy Jimmmmy Stewart in my Classic list above... but, so glad you mentioned Clark Gable!
How oh how could I have EVER forgotten to list "Rhett Butler"???!!!
Dear Lord, the way he looked at Scarlett (Vivien Leigh) as if he knew what she looked like "without her shimmy" as she put it (what the hell's a shimmy, anyhow?)
Oh, and Gary Cooper looked almost exactly like my Grandpa (my mom's dad) so I guess that's why he never seemed real sexy to me.
I loooove him as an actor, though, and think he was wonderful looking.
I can sure see why Patricia Neal was so hot for him and had that many-years-running affair with him!
Wow Gramps looked like Coop? Bet he had a lot of ladies after him!!
Patricia Neal was the love of Gary's life but his wife wouldn't let him go. Of course Patricia was much younger than Coop.
I really liked Liam Neesom in Schindler's list. He smoldered. But he hasn't done much romantic leads lately and I think he can. He has that charm and vulnerability thats so sexy.
Oh there was a guy on Cold Case this Sunday that resemble Jon Hamm. In the way they had the same sort of chisled face. Anyone know who he is?
Yep, Chelsea, he did look almost exactly like GC...and my dad looked like Charles Boyer and my mom looked like a brunette Maureen O'Hara (Yep, they did--really!) and many said so--- a lot--- so it's not just me that thinks so.
Good lookin' folks, for sure.
I've been told ever since I was a teen that I look like Sandra Dee, hence my avatar.
I guess so, but, I have red hair not blonde. Don't know what forces were at work that my family looks like famous people, but that's the case. Strange-ola!!!!!!!
Plus, my brother looked like Tom Selleck!
I know it's weird, but there it is...who can figure???
Chelsea, I like Liam, too. He definitely has that vulnerability and charm like you say. Not to mention, he's tall and commanding.
I know I've seen him in romantic leads, but I just can't think of any at present. Anybody remember any?
Saw a clip about Gene Kelly today and now I want to add him to my list of sexy men. Singing, dancing, or just plain talking, Kelly had "it" in spades. He always came across as smart, funny, warm and wow, what a guy.
Now, while I always enjoyed watching him dance, I never in a million years considered Fred Astaire sexy. Great dancer and wonderful actor, but not sexy.
Other great stars I never found sexy:
Alan Ladd
Spencer Tracy
Humphrey Bogart
Robert Mitchum
John Wayne
Robert Taylor
Richard Burton
Clark Gable
Rock Hudson
Frank Sinatra
Montgomery Cliff
Kirk Douglas
That'll do for a start, I guess. If some of you found these actors sexy, I am sorry, but I just don't see it.
Picky, aren't I?
to/for me, it's about an INTENSITY, apropos "sexiness."
the guys of today: daniel craig, jason straitharn (sp?), josh brolin, thomas jane, clive owen, mark wahlberg. . .etc, etc all share a deep dark sexy edge; rife with pain and experience.
often it is their role that makes them superlatively captivating, yet, i feel that the aforementioned actors are much the same in their real life. whereas our beloved Jon Hamm is mostly sexy as DON.
does anyone agree or disagree?!
in terms of female actors- Julia Roberts is usu much sexier and appealling in her various screen roles; otherwise she seems sweet and humble. . .
love the feedback Maddicts
cheers.
does anyone else watch NIP/TUCK on FX?
bizarre; such a brillant and timely social satire!
I agree with your "not sexy but great actors" list, z...all except for Clark Gable...I do think he was sexy in GWTW...esp. in the scene where they fight and he carries her up the stairs and they end up doin' it.
And for some reason, he's incredibly sexy in the scene when he's leaning over Bonnie's bassinet to pick her up ("Do you know that it's your birthday today?...you're a week old today!") and there's the most adorable, sweet look on his face as he talks baby talk to her...so endearing and sexy at the same time! And I've always noticed (seen it a million times!) how much that little newborn looks like CG...really!
He's not always sexy in movies, but in that one and in "It Happened One Night" I do think he is.
I agree that Gene Kelly "had it" too...esp. in "What a Way To Go" (love that movie!) where he plays "Pinky" to Shirley MacLaine's "perpetual widow"...she can't keep them alive! Paul Newman's in it, also Dick Van Dyke, Gene K., Robt. Mitchum, and I forgot the others...Bob Cummings is her shrink, I believe. Anyway, it's a very light, entertaining comedy. I wish it came on more often.
Remember her and Robt. Mitchum in the giant champagne glass?? That was the cutest movie...D&S would like the last of her husbands (who actually lived)...Dean Martin.
Oh, and I just saw a clip of "Trapeze" with Burt Lancaster...you can sure see that Burt used to be an acrobat prior to his Hollywood days. Oh, me, he is zeroing in on Gina Lollabridgida's neck...looks like he's trying to draw blood....I guess when the director told him to "neck", he got carried away. Dumb joke...he does look like he'd be a great kisser.
Also, a clip of "Sweet Smell of Success" just aired and another sexy guy no one has mentioned yet is in it with Burt...Tony Curtis....kinda a pretty boy..but still sexy, I think. I always thought he and Janet Leigh were a gorgeous couple. Not as gorgeous as Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner (sigh) but gorgeous.
Nope, Tony Curtis never did it for me (that sounds suggestive - my,my!), but Dean Martin - now there is one sexy, charming fella - a class act all the way.
It is my opinion that the Rat Pack would have truly been, to use Humphrey Bogart's expression, just a pack of rats without Dean Martin. He gave them style, class, charm, wit and sex appeal aplenty. Frank S., Peter L., Sammy Davis, and Joey Bishop all were entertaining and talented guys, but even taken together, they were nothing without the charisma of Dean Martin.
Nobody wore a tuxedo like Dean, yet he was great in westerns - sexiest cowboy ever. So funny on his own show. I remember Laine Kazan or some female singing "He Touched Me" while Dean sat on the piano with drink in hand and yelled "I never laid a hand on her." Last, but most importantly, there was his singing - made you just want to melt. Ah, Dino. I sure miss the man. I hope he knew just how much people loved and enjoyed his work.
Right on, z...Dino was one sexy talented varmint.
I, too, loved his voice! I have the clip of him singing "My Rifle, My Pony and Me" (sounds corny and it is...but, oh, that voice!) from "Rio Bravo" on my Favorites and listen to it often. He had the patent on "mellow", didn't he?
Kinda off subject, but not really...I ran across another clip I'd saved from awhile ago (can't remember who gave us the link or from what thread it was in---it's been months) of Jack Jones...God, what a gorgeous, Mad-Men-looking dude he was...it was a YouTube clip of him singing "Lollipops and Roses" and he is almost (I said ALMOST---LOL) as beautiful as JH in it. I always sorta liked his voice, but I had forgotten how beautiful the man was.
That clip was from the Judy Garland Christmas show in 1963...Liza Minelli and Lorna Luft are also in it, as well as Judy.
Keep forgetting to mention Harry Connick Jr. on our sexy men list...he is one hottie...not to mention he sounds sorta like Frank S.
Off topic as it gets but...Just found Dan A. as "Fred Garvin: Male Prostitute" on hulu.com...just search for it on there.
Soooo funny...I'd forgotten about Garrett Morris being his pimp!
I wish SNL was as funny as it used to be! boo hoo
Some Sexy Men Old & New
Cary Grant Jude Law
Clark Gable Johnny Depp
Gene Kelly Brad Pitt
Steve MCQueen John Travolta
Paul Newman Nicholas Cage
Robert Redford Andy Garcia
Robert De Niro Harry Belafonte
Al Pacino Sidney Poitier
Clint Eastwood Denzel Washington
Baldwin Brothers Jeffrey Wright
Tommy Lee Jones Lawrence Fishburn
Wesley Snipes
Amen to Denzel and Jude, pink! Forgot them...of course, Hollywood is a hotbed of 'em (sexy men) so it's hard to think of every one! LOL...
Was there ever anyone sexier than Denzel (in about any of his movies---even back there in St. Elsewhere!) or Jude in "The Holiday" with Kate Winslet? Nicholas Cage in "City of Angels", too!
I think Denzel's little overbite is so adorable. Funny how people's little imperfections are the best things about them.
Hey SCfan sounds like you have good genes.
My Dad was a tall Irishman so probably why I like Liam. He had one of those deep deep voices that had all the neighbor ladies flirting with him. Evan though he didn't have a "pretty" face.
I will have to check out that movie trapez with BL. Sounds hot.
So Liam was also in a movie called Etham Frome where I thought he was hot in that in the first part. Also a movie called the Good Mom with Diane Keeton. But now I see he has a new movie out called Taken so I can't wait to see that. Unfortunately I don't think he has a romantic leading lady. Maybe his real wife Natasha (Redgrave's daughter forgot her real last name won't let him play with hollywood ladies anymore)
Someone mentioned Tommy Lee Jones. Yeah I would agree with that. Great posts ladies we should keep this going until Valentines day......
Yeah and that Dean Martin had "it" too. So sad about his son.
And then there is the man at my work that I have suddenly noticed after several years..... hmmm he's single but I'm kinda of reserved what would you ladies advise?...... ;-)
Well, Chelsea, since I've been married to my first and only husband since 1976, it's been quite some time since I flirted, lol. but you might try...
Bake some cookies/treats and bring them to work for your co-workers and then when he is looking them over and choosing, say in a flirtatious way---"Try that one, I made it just for you." See if he reacts in a way that isn't uncomfortable. He may be as reserved as you and be caught off-guard and not have a "comeback" ...
Or...ask him out to lunch some day...esp. with V-Day coming up.
Is he an old fashioned guy? Drop your hankie!
I bet some of our Maddict Ladies will have many more ideas!
Chelsea, I put a post on another thread about Liam, shoulda posted it here....oh well
It's on the "Can't Tell Yet about 'Lie to Me'....Anybody Like It?" thread...
oops
I mean it's on the "Can't Tell Yet about "Trust Me" thread.
Help me, Lord..please fix my brain...
Well since I started this dern thread, I think I'll do some adjusting----
What do the Male Maddicts think is sexy in women? and which current and classic stars have "it"?
No fair listing Christina H. and January---that goes without saying...hell, I'm completely hetero and I think both are hot hot hot!!
Do you really want to know?
I can't believe no one listed
James Dean
Marlon Brando (the young MB of course
Nah, James Dean and Marlon Brando always struck me as too high maintenance to be sexy. Steve McQueen falls into that category for me also. On the other hand, Paul Newman was of the same generation of actors, but he always came across as laid back and mellow (at least to me) and sexy as all get out.
I mentioned earlier that I never found Kirk Douglas to be sexy, and I think that he, too, comes across as too high maintenance. However, his son, Michael Douglas, I have always found to be very sexy.
Right on, z...Michael Douglas is one sexy dude.
Also, can't figure why none of us mentioned Robert Wagner...just type in Robert Wagner What a Man in YouTube an watch the video...sizzlin' hot.
And Yes, Polar, we DO want to know what you guys think on this subject, why not?
Bet I can guess some of the top chicks---some classic, some current-- on men's lists(and whether I agree or not):
Natalie Wood (I agree)
Marilyn Monroe (also agree)
Raquel Welch (nope)
Angelina Jolie (nope)
Christina Hendricks (God, do I agree)
January Jones (I agree)
Oops...forgot one I'd think was in the top five, if I was a man listing (I'm a woman, and I still think she's very very hot)
Susan Hayward! Hot, sexy redhead!
Also, anyone going to YouTube to watch that Robt. Wagner video I mentioned above...there's another good video there that has cute clips of he and Natalie Wood & Jill St. John (two of his wives) plus lots of others..."Robert Wagner - It's In His Kiss" that's really cute/hot to watch, too. It even has Cher as a soundtrack! Cool.
I think sexy comes from confidence and being secure in yourself.
Classic Male Celebrities who are/were sexy:
Robert Wagner
Gregory Peck
Spencer Tracy
Henry Cabot Lodge
John Foster Dulles
Randolph Scott
Cary Grant
Clint Eastwood
Caesar Romero
Tyrone Power
Paul Newman
Contemporary:
Pierce Brosnan
John Hurt
George Clooney
George Clooney's father (Nick, I think)
Chris Cooper
Colin Firth (in Pride and Prejudice)
Sexy Women:
Susan Hayward
Rita Hayworth
Natalie Wood
Marilyn Monroe
Jayne Mansfield
Betty Grable - most famous for her legs, and being the pinup girl for GIs in WWII - beautiful.
Carolyn Jones - she died rather young, but was first wife to Aaron Spelling, played Morticia on the Addams Family. I alway admired her, even when she played character roles on early TV shows. She had gorgeous light-colored eyes and just exuded a joie de vivre.
Did I miss it, or have none of us mentioned dear old pruned-out Robert Redford?
He used to be hot. Way back there.
I for one admire how he hasn't gone under the knife like all the other Hollywood folk...as long as I don't have to look at him very long at a time. Ick.
Some Maddict posted a while back that RR did have facelifts, etc...it looks to me like it didn't take!
Oh...I keep forgetting to mention Richard Gere (esp. in "An Officer and a Gentleman"!) and he is like Sean Connery in that he is still extremely sexy...in his "siver fox" years.
I like Robert Redford. I think if the guys must do plastic surgery, keep it subtle. Don't ya think Kenny Rogers went to far (tight)? What about Bill Clinton. Oh he was bad sexy.
Yes Polar we really want to know. You are such a tease.....
YES, Chelsea...poor Kenny looks like he's perpetually suprised...or just got a knife in the back!
Him (and Michael Jackson) are prime examples of going to far under the knife.
I think Polar wants us to beg.
Then again, we might be sorry when all he lists is porn chicks!
oops...my spelling again (suRprised and toO far)
Robert Redford never seemed sexy to me - when he was young he was cute, but always looked like a preppie. When he got old and still had his blonde hair with all those deep lines on his face, he looked phony. I admire the guy a lot for his personal values and integrity, but I don't see sexy in him.
Yes, ladies, I agree about Kenny Rogers being super stretched. Still, he's not as bad as poor Mickey Rourke - now, that is a bad face job.
One I left off my list - Rod Serling, host/writer/director of "Twilight Zone."
Since you asked . . .
Polar Bear's Top 10 Hottest Women:
10. Madonna
9. The Olson Twins
8. Lauren Conrad
7. Rhianna
6. Nicole Richie
5. Kim Kardashian
4. Lindsey Lohan
3. Jessica Simpson (the new version)
2. Paris Hilton
and the number one Hottest Woman is . . .
Jenna Jamison!!!
I knew it...a porn chick...
But, I do agree with you on Lindsey Lohan...she needs to get her personal life fixed (I guess she has?) but she is strikingly beautiful.
Hey, D&S, Polar Bear listed his hotties list...you need to list yours!
Or are you a male...I always figured you were somehow.
And, are those the only two male Maddicts? Just wonderin'
How old are you, Polar Bear? Not one hot chick over the age of 30? Madonna does not count as she has re-invented herself so many times, she is no longer a real person, and probably wouldn't want to be identified as over 30 anyway.
I feel an intelligent quick witted person with a touch of imp is sexy.
I adore Rickman and Firth. Something about Daniel Day-Lewis gets my attention.
Loved Clifton Webb, Leslie Howard, George Sanders and Gregory Peck.
Yes, 57, that imp element is totally sexy.
You just want to slap them and say "Behave yourself!" and then say..."never mind...get over here and kiss me"!
We forgot to mention Jeffrey Hunter...although he may be borderline "too pretty"---?
He was gorgeous, that's for sure. Sexy, too, I think.
Shhh . . . that laughter you hear from the Arctic Circle is me.
SCFan – I am surprised at your response. “Oh, that’s your list. How nice. La de da. Move onto the next topic.” I can’t believe you took this list seriously. It is dripping with sarcasm. Since you mentioned Steve McQueen above, one of the all time Guy’s Guy, I will endeavor to answer your question thoughtfully.
Mrs. Zerelda – To answer your question, I am 12. Hence the women on my list.
All I can say about the list I provided is “what would you call all those women at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean? A good start.” (shout out to William Shakespeare). If I may borrow one of the Minx’s terms, lists like these are one big taffy pull. Sure, many Hollywood stars have the proper bone structure and genetic fortune to be considered attractive. However, once many of them utters a single thought, the fantasy is shattered.
Exhibit 1A is Halle Berry. I consider her to be one of the most attractive women on the planet. The question is, why so many divorces? I don’t know her personally so I won’t speculate about her but I have known women equally as physically attractive yet their own insecurities drain the life out of anyone associated with them. Ken Cosgrove was right, attractive women are often the easiest prey in the herd. If a woman only has her beauty to offer the world, then the narcissism necessary to maintain that illusion is as numbing as salt peter. Ask Hugh Grant.
What do I find sexy in a woman? Here is a list, albeit partial, of what I find attractive:
Unaffected by her beauty – Michelle Pfeiffer; she works out on occasion at my health club and I have seen how graciously she has treated the staff. I try not to confuse the roles a person plays with the person (see the ice princess in Scarface and the sultry lounge singer in the Fabulous Baker Boys).
Passionate – Sophia Loren aptly described as “a force of nature”.
Generous – with her time and her spirit.
Graceful – Buenos Aires for New Years, Argentinian women’s physical beauty is only outdone by their gracefulness as dancers. Nothing like it in the world.
Artistic – Ann Wilson, Beyonce; sexiness is a form of expression; whether it is through music, art or culinary acumen, there is nothing sexier than a woman who expresses herself well.
Secure – Helen Mirren (see, I don’t discriminate by age); quickest way to kill the moment is to apologize for perceived flaws. White chicks, take a lesson from the black chicks.
Unapologetic – Joan Jett, what can I say? Watching her perform “Bad Reputation” will put the lead in any man’s pencil. See also Tina Turner doing "Proud Mary".
Engaged – with the world and her place in it; not staying home with a bunch of cats reading romance novels. Get out there, risk rejection. BTW make it a policy to always introduce yourself first. Life is too short to wait for an invitation.
Resilient – Vanessa Williams, as beautiful as she is talented, her fall from Miss America grace did not stop her from having a great career. Does anyone even remember (or care) about those pictures?
Initiative – Not waiting to make the first move (see Engaged above).
Self Respect – Don’t leave the house to shop at Walmart wearing sweats and flip flops that draw attention to your size 11 feet that haven’t had a pedicure in four months.
Style – It matters; have some idea what works for you. I have Kurt’s number is you need help.
Intelligence – Jodie Foster (I know, I know but I still find her sexy).
Adventurous – Melissa Miller, Santa Cruz & Sports Illustrated supermodel once took a ride in Dale Earnhardt’s race car. When she emerged from the vehicle, the glow on her face would have launched a 1000 ships.
Femininity – Jacklyn Smith, I can’t think of a classier dame.
Mystery – Megan Fox, something about brunettes with blue eyes. Oh, Jennifer Connelly too.
Joy – Bettie Page, we all shared her joy of her nudity.
Spontaneous – nothing like walking through the front door after a tough day at work and being welcomed with a strip tease.
Responsiveness – Need I say more? There is no greater aphrodisiac.
Well, I say bravo to you, Polar Bear. I am so relieved, and I apologize profusely for doubting you. From now on I will remember that Polar Bear sometimes writes with his tongue planted firmly in his cheek. There are some seriously sexy women on your list, and excellent advice to any woman who aspires to seriously sexy status.
I say Bravo Bravo Bravo, Polar!
You got me! I apologize a thousand fold.
I agree with so many on your list!
Sophia Loren, Helen Mirren, Tina Turner (those legs!), Michelle Pfeiffer, Ann Wilson (I assume you mean of "Heart"), Jennifer Connelly...ya got good taste...
for a 12 year old!
LOL
Polar, when I said "You got me" I meant you fooled me with your first list of bimbos...just explainin'
Your second "list" of attributes is great advice, like z said.
How old are you really? We all have told, now it's your turn.
Oh, and I forgot to mention Jeff Bridges (Polar's mention of the Fabulous Baker Boys made me think of him) He is a sexy dude, for sure.
Beau Bridges also, esp. in the older days. He was sexy as hell in "Norma Rae". Remember the part where she has the meltdown in the kitchen, "mock" ironing, throwing potatos into a pot, going spazzy with that "overworked" speech and he's just standing there dumbstruck watching her? Funny movie.
Dermot Mulroney...he's a good 'un, too.
Well just got back home after watching a cute flick called "He's just not that into you" So yes Polar your advice is apropo and if I may, can I copy and paste your segment and send it to my single girlfriends? I see a new topic in the making..............
I wonder what Polar thinks of Danica Patrick?...I think she's super hot, and I'm a very hetero woman.
When I got to the part in his list about Dale Earnhardt's race car, I thought he was going to talk about her.
Danica Patrick is physically attractive but a bit of a whiner, which is a turn off for any one who is a gear head. And, she's not even the most talented and attractive female in auto sports.
With the exception of Mrs. Dario Franchetti (a.k.a. Ashley Judd), perhaps the most attractive in auto racing is Ashley Force. Daughter of 14 time NHRA champion John Force, she is one of the fastest human beings on 4 wheels. 4.8 in the 1/4 mile, over 320 mph and she drives a Ford. A winner in my book.
Speaking of books, I am putting together a series of essays and the title will be "You can't handle the truth - a Polar Bear's guide to the male psyche or why you should never listen to Cosmo magazine" I suggest waiting for the full text instead of the quick, slapped together narrative I usually whip up for this blog.
You never did say how old you really are, Polar...and why the hell you bother to spend even a few minutes on a blog with a bunch of old chicks (over 50, most of us, I venture to say)...????
Just wonderin'....
Cosmo magazine is nowhere in my book ... never has been...of course, I'm just an old fashioned "Real Simple" (magazine/website) girl. Very domestic and home-based mindset.
Whoaa SCfan I'm not over 50 yet... I'm 48 and feeling great. I would guess Polar Bear is somewhere in his 40's.
I think Dale Ernhardt was sexy. Forgot about all the auto racing dudes. Anyway back to the movie I saw, It had Scarlet Johannson in it. Now she is very pretty, great hair, great body but I don't think she is particularly sexy. Maybe it's her acting. Maybe because she was trying so hard to be sexy in the movie. Maybe because I'm a women.. Sometimes I think a man and/or women can be so "pretty" that they're not particularly sexy. Does that make sense? What do you boys and girls think?
Oops!, hey, Chelsea, you are a young one! ha
I'm 58 and zerelda is 59, not sure about others, but I know there used to be a few in their 60's and some in their 70's, too. Can't recall if we had any in their 80's or not.
I kinda agree that there is that pretty boy factor that can cancel out the sexy man factor in a man...
Example...Tyrone Power...probably never a more gorgeous human on the face of the earth...but not sexy somehow.
Let's start a poll on Polar's age:
I say 42.
I am going with 52 for Polar Bear....how would we know if he lies about his age?
Good one, z!
He is 12 in polar bear years. He said so himself.
My list is not arranged in any particular order. However, if I had to prioritize, intelligence would have to be at the top of the list.
For that reason, 57Chevy, you get a gold star by your name and you don't have to turn in tomorrow's homework assignment. Well done. Granted, its not the DaVinci Code but kudos to you for figuring it out.
Mrs. Zerelda - first, you misjudge the original list (taking it seriously/literally) and then infer that I lie. What are we going to do about this?
Oooooh, Polar Bear, you just sent an odd little chill down my spine!
Nice Polar Bear, I did not mean to suggest that you would lie with evil intent, as I know in my heart you would never do such a thing to your fellow Maddicts. I only meant that should you be inclined to do so in jest, how would we ever know?
Once again, I beg your forgiveness most humbly, and I promise to refrain in the future from impugning your integrity and general Polar Bearish superiority over the rest of us lowly Maddicts, or at least this particular lowly Maddict, ya big galoot.
Come on, Polar, give z a break....I thought you were serious with that first list, too before you posted your "real" list...shallow and stupid, yes...but serious. lol
Are "polar bear years" the same as "dog years"??
If so, you'd be over 70?
A big old codger galoot?
Hey you kids, get off of my lawn and turn down that damn Hi-Fi with you Rock & Roll music.
If I were in my 70's, then that would make me old enough to be your father, assuming I am from Appalachia or . . . Oklahoma. So respect your elders you whippersnappers.
Remind me, but how did we get so far off topic?
Ah, a curmudgeonly codger, at that. If we scratch your belly, Polar Bear, is all forgiven?
We are all of a certain age, PB, which means we usually can't remember squat. A conversation starts on one subject, idles along, and then wanders off down a different path, and maybe or maybe not meets up again with the original topic, assuming any of us remember what that was. As a child of my acquaintance once explained, "it's more funner this way."
Now, what was your question, again?
.....I don't normally discuss matters of a "hokey pokey" nature on the internet, but I was surprised no one has mentioned Ava Gardner.
While she wasn't exactly an Oscar-winning actress, she was one of the more smolder-y of the leading ladies....
There, see Polar Bear, we are now back on topic, thanks to Dry Manhattan. I liked Ava Gardner, especially in "Barefoot Contessa", and "On the Beach".
"hokey-pokey" - ha! Dry Manhattan, you made me laugh when I read that. Thanks!
z, I like Laurie B.'s explanation of our shared condition (Where are you, Laurie?, BTW)
She called it "CRS Disease" --------
(can't remember s**t) ! So true! LOL
And Polar, if you know what's good for you (and you never do, do you?) you'll change that "Oklahoma" crack to "Arkansas" or ? jiffy quick, boy! lol?
I just know you said that on purpose, didn't you, PB??
Dry, Ava G. was definitely a hottie...smolder-y deluxe!
And, Polar, I think she actually was FROM West Virginia....she got to go to Hollywood because she actually had more than 2 teeth---- and was therefore the beauty of the family on that merit!
I apologize in advance to anyone from West Virginia or who knows someone or has a relative from there.
I just couldn't resist.....
Hell, what I said about Ava G. isn't so bad, now that I re-read it...no worse than what Polar Bear wrote in his "SCfan/You Don't Really Come Here For The Hunting" joke re-do...! LOL
Besides, if he could see some of my male cousins, he'd understand...oops.....
I dunno, MAD MEN's Aaron Staton is some serious eye candy.
...Wow, ras...didn't know there'd be any more posts to my little thread here....thought it died back in the winter....
Aaron reminds me of Kirk Douglas....not bad....but, I'm weird....I, of course, think Jon Hamm is gorgeous-- who doesn't? (duh) but I also think Vincent K. is sexy and cute....weird, I know....but, he has his moments when he can be almost as sexy and good looking as DD....in his slimy, back-stabbing Pete Campbell kind of way!
