MAD MEN BACK FOR 3RD SEASON, IT'S TRUE!

I just read an article stating that Mad Men will return this summer for season 3. So all you Maddicts pour you a tall one of what ever you like most and let's all begin your toasts with a post!

I think that's just Wonderful! However I should also
mention, the article did say that negotiations for Wiener's contract are still in process. Though Collier of AMC is confident he'll come on board. Don't like how that sounds but things are in a good direction. Now for my toast, To Season 3 for all my Maddicts and me!

Thanks for the (tentatively) good word pinkpen! I'll raise a glass to that!--(But not until the "cocktail hour" of course (grin)).

Matt Weiner has not been signed for the 3rd season - why do you guys think this is such great news?? If you listen to the DVD commentaries from Season 1 - you'll see that he is involved with every detail - props, costumes, character motivation - he even chose Don Draper's watch. Every actor goes on and on about how wonderful he is - without him there is no Mad Men.

Frankly - I am counting on Jon Hamm and the rest of the cast to show some leadership - and all strike unless Matt Weiner comes back. If Matt is not back for season 3 - they should all not show up for work. I remember reading years ago that the cast of Friends all stuck together to re-negotiate their contract - from what I read it kept them close as friends/cast and gave them power with their network. I hope the Mad Men cast does the same thing.

Sunday night are the Golden Globes!! I'm so excited - of course I want Jon Hamm, January Jones and the show to win - how much fun would that be???!!!

Dry Manhattan If You Google Mad Men, once you get to the 1st page down the page a little there will be;

Click Mad Men News and it's the top story.
We all understand the importance of Mr. Weiner being with them and I do believe he will. So I still think it's Wonderful!

I just went to the site that I referenced earlier and the ARTICLE IS GONE! They have replaced it with something about January Jones and The Golden Globe Awards and it notes posted 2 hours ago. I know I read it at 10:46am today. I know I saw it because I was drinking coffee. That's what gave me the idea for the toast. I can't explain why it's not there now. It was in something called POST VIEW.
Very Interesting!

.....pinkpen.....Is this the article?

It's yesterday's New York Times, and while it does confirm Season Three, it also says Matt's contract renewal is still pending, at least officially, which we kind of knew.

Read the quote below by Charlie Collier.....it sounds upbeat, if not totally reassuring.

The network has not yet announced an agreement with the show’s creator and executive producer, Matthew Weiner, with whom it has been negotiating since his previous contract expired after the second season of “Mad Men.” Mr. Collier nonetheless said he was confident that a deal would be struck in time for the show’s third season. “As long as we get the writers’ room up and running over the next few months, we’re fine,” he said, according to Variety.

(Personally not really worried. I think they know they would have a riot on their hands if they didn't bring Matt back!)

Dry Manhattan, No, that is not the article I read. It was not from the New York Times. The article I read was posted on the morning of January 9th. I read the article earlier and made my post at 11:36am (Eastern) that same morning. The information is similar but it's not the article I read. If you check my post, our information is similar and your article's quote is from Variety posted by the Times. The Times article has a post time of 12 hours ago. Why the article I read was pulled, I'm not sure?
Just like you I'm just "Tickled Pink" about them having a Season 3!

CORRECTION - I should say I made my second post at 11:36am. My first post was 11:02am soon after I read the article. I just wanted you all to know, especially since we've been on the edge about our show.

.....Originally they said the contracts would all be signed by December, but it looks like they might be delaying until after awards season.....better leverage for Matt to get his asking price?

@Dry Manhattan: Thanks for finding and supplying the link to the article.

Through that link I find one of the earlier MM articles (Season 1) in which there are some great Matthew Weiner quotes. I particularly liked the one where he says something like--(I paraprase)--

'Our characters (unlike characters in the movies of the 60's) are people who go to the movies themselves, and are imitating what they see there.'

Very interesting article -- particularly for any new-comers to MM, who want a quick overview of "why this is a superior TV show." (my quote) :-)

.....jackie_monroe.....Great link - thanks.

BTW, I read, with interest, your musings on PC Mag's Top 100 blogs....

Since Mad Men won Best Drama at the Golden Globes, Matt may have even more leverage in his negotiations. Hopefully we will hear someting positive soon.

I never doubted it. I suppose that is where a child like sense of optimism can be my survival mechanism. Can I have a pony?

I am SO pleased! I honestly can NOT wait for season three! I was depressed when Sopranos ended and swore I would NEVER get into another T.V. show again.NEVER!! I REFUSED the televison industry
my support by averting my eyes anytime they tried to tempt me with a new show, by sighing loudly whenever my cable bill arrived in the mail and by shaking my head in dissapointment everytime I stood in line to pay the thing. No amount of begging on their part would fix it, PERIOD!

The tv screen was waste and void; and darkness was upon its face! Then the spirit of 'ALL THAT IS' moved upon the face of the tv screen and the spirit said, Let there be MAD MEN and there was MAD MEN and the spirit saw MAD MEN, that it was good.
So in this, the spirit divided the light from the darkness and made the two great lights; the light of TIVO or a DVR to rule the day, and the light of MAD MEN to rule the night and the spirit saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very, very good.
