Can't tell yet on "Trust Me"--- Anybody like it?

Caught only part of "Trust Me" tonight...forgot it was on.
I will say, however, Tom Cavanaugh has beautiful turquoise eyes! He's kinda sexy in a "Pete Campbell" sort of way. Griffin Dunne is sexy and great as usual. It's no Mad Men, but it's better than I thought it would be.

Hi SCfan,
I only watched parts of it. It didn't really hold my attention. So they are trying to copy the advertising world.

Have you watched Life on Mars? That show kind of tries to cash in on the nostalgic era only it takes place in the '70's.

user-pic

Haven't seen Life on Mars except for the first epi...didn't really grab me.

Like you, TM didn't really grab me, either. All I could think of was which MM character each character in it was trying to copy!

I wanted to like it, I really did...if only to help pass the months until July...maybe I'll give it one more chance. But only one more.

user-pic

Too frenetic, trying a little too hard. They need to pause, take a breath, slow down the badinage and develop an actual storyline to follow. Anybody actually in advertising today who can comment?

user-pic

I did not watch it, however, I did read an earlier review of the pilot episode. The reviewer said he found the second episode to be much better than the first and recommended viewers stick with the show for awhile to form their own opinions.

user-pic

It definitely tried too hard and wasn't very realistic. I worked in an ad agency years ago and thought that 30 Something was pretty acurate at the time.

Not much to enjoy.

They are working too hard to push the obvious - different strokes notwithstanding.

No worries for Mad Men!

user-pic

Yeah and the guy that dropped dead was so over acting. He better get to the Stasberg Acting School in New York. If it still exists.

user-pic

Yep, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...but, I agree, nicevilleguy---no worries at all for our beloved MM.

user-pic

I haven't seen it yet--missed the first episode (which should show how IMPORTANT this is to me) but I plan to check it out when its schedule and mine coincide, it is somwhat important to me and I do plan to watch an episode or two before deciding if it's worth the commitment of my time but I wasn't impressed enough by "previews" to stay home and watch it or record it.

I started watcing Mad Men because I was in the NYC ad game and curious how it would be portrayed on TV. I absolutely fell in love with Matt W's virsion of the the ad biz a generation before I arrived on the scene.I am a Maddict, what more needs to be said ?!

For those who are confused by my siggy "former WRG'er" it relates to

user-pic

oops---my ending comment got cut off

WRG relates to Wells, Rich, Greene, so if there are any WRG-ers on this board please speak up so we can discuss the good old days of advertising in the GM building and our A list of clients.

user-pic

The guys on "Trust Me" are caricatures. Everyone is trying so hard to be clever and fast on the uptake. No wonder one guy had a heart attack and died!

These are "Creative" people (like Peggy and Don). Do they dress like that to meet clients? The only way to find out is to watch again next week!

user-pic

I'd rather stick my head in the sand and just wait for The Sterling Cooper Crew!

Who was it once called TV a "Vast Wasteland"? I feel like that now. Plus it's the haunches of winter and I do watch more TV now - or would if there were anything worthwhile on. I'm getting carpal tunnel from using the remote!

On the upside, there are some much better movies out than we have seen in the last several years. Finally saw Benjamin Button and loved it. My husband likes diferent things than I do, so for every Revolutionary Road, I have to sit through Batman, etc. When they told me marriage is a compromise, I didn't think about movies!

.....At least it's something different from the million cop shows (where, of course, all the cops are good guys), and the million lawyer shows. Trust me, NO ONE in a law office calls an attorney "Counsellor!"

The forensics shows like CSI and Bones can be interesting though....Sorry for the off-topic.

I won't be likely to catch this show unless it gets some serious attention, and am still trying to get to TNT's Lie to Me with Tim Roth, but for lack of time.

user-pic

.....Sorry, Lie to Me is on Fox.

user-pic

Dry, I caught some of "Lie to Me" and it seemed a bit preachy to me. Tim Roth was constantly bursting into lectures about everyone's facial expressions and it got a little old. I wanted to slap him and say "For the love of God, get on some other subject for two seconds, ok?" It might get better, but, for me, it was kinda not attention-grabbing.

The trouble is (a good trouble, but still trouble) we are all spoiled by MM...I miss it soooooo much.

user-pic

.....SCfan.....You are too funny. That's disappointing! He's such a great actor, and it's a pleasure hearing his delivery of great lines.... I'll reserve judgment for a couple episodes....

And you are right. Mad Men has kind of raised the bar on any other show. The others are going to have to peddle fast to measure up.

user-pic

Hey Flowerpower I haven't seen Benjamin Button yet or RR but want to. I have seen the Batman movie with Heath Ledger and I didn't like it at all. Am I the only one who didn't. It's winning lots of awards. Is something wrong with me?

user-pic

Just an observation, Chelsea's fave, Liam N. and the guy in "Lie to Me" (Tim Roth) were in the same movie a few years ago with Jessica Lange----"Rob Roy"...just a thing I thought of.

Poor Jessica got raped and subsequently knocked up by Tim and Liam tracked him down like a dog and "kilt" him (word play...Liam spent most of the movie if not all in kilts!)

If you've not seen that one, Chelsea, ol' Liam is pretty damn hot in it, even in the kilt!

Ah well, we have a few fresh episodes of The Closer to keep us through the dullness and new NCIS and CSI eps. As long as EVERYTHING isn't in reruns.

Auburn, you made me think of that guy on NCIS who plays Di Noso...very very sexy.

Can't recall his name, but his stuff on IMDB said his dad (a very rich guy, evidently) disowned him when he decided to go into acting. Good thing he's got his own $$ now and on a mega hit show, huh?

BTW, Mark Harmon ain't too shabby, either.
