She's so old!
I keep going back to that line - when Betty confronted Don about Bobbie Barrett and said, "She's so old!" Just HOW old do we think Bobbie was? I'm guessing at least 40. Given that Betty is 30, I can just imagine how old 40 seemed! I'm taking this all a bit personally since I'm older than that!
All the talk of Jennifer Aniston coming on the show made me think - she's hitting 40 isn't she? As much as I like her, I have to say age is starting to catch up to her face. I wish someone would tell female actors that smoking ages their face terribly. If it weren't for her incredibly small body she'd be losing some of her star appeal.

Bobbie Barrett has an 18-year-old son and a daughter who attends Sarah Lawrence College. I agree, Nancy, that she is probably at least 40. Don is 36 in l962. I don't think he gave a thought about Bobbie's age. He was mildly surprised when she mentioned going to the beach with her son and attending a play her daughter was in at Sarah Lawrence because he didn't know she had children.
Betty's comment didn't really surprise me. From Betty's standpoint, 40 must have seemed old in comparison with her own age of 30. Betty is somewhat immature and has preconceived notions. I don't know whether she meant Bobbie was "old" for Don or whether she was just comparing herself with Bobbie.
About Jennifer Aniston turning 40, you're right, she will be turning 40 on FEB 11,2009. Believe me I should know since I will be turning 40 myself 6 days before JA.
The stunning Melinda McGraw proved so damn good as "Bobbie Barrett!" She brought a slinky sexiness to the role! Ms. McGraw's 45 IRL, making her about 7 years Jon Hamm's senior. Whatever the age diff, Mrs. Barrett and Mr. Draper steamed the scream!

Last week a friend was telling me about a customer who was trying to say that the owner of the business was a "smart fella." Instead he said, "He's a real fart smella."
Un huh. Once, after a very long day of interviewing people, I was horrified to hear myself asking the applicant if he wanted a "pull time or a fart time position" with our company.

I think the reason why Betty exclaimed SHES SO OLD is that...what the hell was the matter with her! Betty was younger youthful, and she is now coming to realize that Don was wasting her youth on someone older. She had, had enough. That was the breaking point for her. I could understand her. I mean If the woman was younger, Betty would understand, but since Bobbie was older...Betty was taken aback...she must have been thinking...WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!
We know the ages of Bobbi's kids, but she might have had them while still a teenager - it wasn't unusual for people to start at 16 or 17 in those days. I thought she was about 37 to 40.
Regarding female actors and the aging effect of smoking, that's true, but their constant dieting is a huge stress on their bodies, as is running.
When I was young I believed all men liked younger women, I thought I was more fun and attractive. When I got older I was lucky to age well , I finally meet the man of my dreams and married for the first time when I was 50. The truth of the matter is, a women doesn't hit her sexual prime until she's about 35. I don't know about you ladies, but after that sex got way better. Men would rather be with a woman who is sexually happy. The attitude is different and that may be the turn on with Bobbie.

I definitely think women are like fine wine. I feel much sexier today at 48 than I did when I was 26 when I was at my physical zenith. Practice makes perfect! I just hope like keeps getting better. Does it? Is there a cut off?
