Revolutionary Road Writeup
Just finished reading a writeup in today's (Sunday's) New York Post and Mad Men was referenced in it. Although I enjoyed the book, the critic panned the movie.

wasthere,
I haven't read the NY Post review, but other reviews for "Revolutionary Road" have been pretty lukewarm. Although there is some praise for the actors, it seems that the essence of Richard Yates' bitter, heartbreaking novel was not captured in the film. Reviews notwithstanding, I plan to see the film this week!
Here is a somewhat sympathetic NY Times review.

Hi wasthere. Did you get your pictures of our Maddicts party developed? Gail was kind enough to send me copies so I've got my shot of me and Bryan Batt.
I have been trying to find out where in the ATL Revolutionary Road is playing and not having much luck.I think its on a limited engagement status.I read one review and it rated the film as average. There was a lot of anticipation about the movie because it reunited Leonardo and Kate.
I could see some parallels between the Mad Men scenario's of the Drapers suburban living and Betty's sadness of not realizing her potential.Reading the book reminded me of those scenes at Don and Betty's house.
I finished the book a couple weeks ago. It was rather heartbreaking and of course has a very bad ending...I wonder if they will portray the movie just like the novel?
I want to see it despite it getting a poor review.
I just got back from the movie. Its good. MadMen can be compared to it...duh..Weiner got the inspiration for Madmen from the novel. I have read the novel twice, and that critic is a dumbass...it totally captures the esscence and the themes of the book. I say its a damn good adaptation. Madmen is a series based on the book...the movie is the book. To put in simpler terms...Revolutionary Road is like MadMen the series all together...while MadMen is the book, but in different episodes.
Does that make sense?
I saw "Revolutionary Road" yesterday. Artistically speaking, It is very well done; but I have to say that had I not read the book and discussed it on this forum, I would have been bummed out. The film follows the book pretty faithfully. The acting is excellent, especially Leonardo DeCaprio. Although Kate Winslett has a beautifully expressive face, I thought her acting was a bit overwrought, not as subtle as De Caprio's.
I don't think the film will be a commercial success. Who wants to pay outrageous prices to share in this kind of misery? Viewers who might otherwise empathize with the plight of the young couple in the film are themselves facing up to frightening problems in their own lives. Finding oneself, feeling more alive, being free from society's constraints, and figuring out the "meaning of it all" are relevant matters to consider after one has solved the immediate problem of basic survival in a chaotic economy.
Timing is everything, and this film was released at a bad time. It is not the feel-good movie of the year.
