I'm watching "The Jet Set" again and am really struck by it (again). The scene in the breakroom where the young guy admits to "making love with the men" while all the guys are holding donuts... Joy's father walking in on her and Don in bed ... wow, is this show good!

Haven't really seen a thread for this topic, so decided to start one. How old do you think all the characters are (besides those who have already mentioned their actual ages in the series)?

I keep going back to that line - when Betty confronted Don about Bobbie Barrett and said, "She's so old!" Just HOW old do we think Bobbie was? I'm guessing at least 40. Given that Betty is 30, I can just imagine how old 40 seemed! I'm taking this all a bit personally since I'm older than that!
All the talk of Jennifer Aniston coming on the show made me think - she's hitting 40 isn't she? As much as I like her, I have to say age is starting to catch up to her face. I wish someone would tell female actors that smoking ages their face terribly. If it weren't for her incredibly small body she'd be losing some of her star appeal.

Ok Maddicts, Roger is having a grand party for the New Year. Sterling Cooper have much to celebrate and look forward too in the upcoming year. Who was invited? What was on the menu? Where was the gala held? How were the ladies dressed (by name)? Who showed up uninvited and what did they have to say?

Just finished reading a writeup in today's (Sunday's) New York Post and Mad Men was referenced in it. Although I enjoyed the book, the critic panned the movie.

On a recent interview, when asked what TV show she would like to appear on, Jennifer Aniston said she would like to on Mad Men. What type of role should Mr. Weiner create for her? I would like to see her as a potential love interest for Don Draper that Don actually turns down. Would Don fail this test of his mettle?

I rented this movie just to see her. Because it's set in 1970, she really looks the Betty Draper part. I have no doubt that it was because of her role in this movie that Matthew Weiner cast her. She was absolutely the perfect image.
For what it's worth, I really enjoyed the movie. My sister went to Marshall beginning in 1973 and I remember the story all too well.

The talented actress Anne Dudek, who plays our beloved "Francine Hanson" gave birth to her first son, Akiva, on December 14.
According to Anne's husband, the well-known painter Matthew Heller, both Anne and Akiva are doing well.
All of us Maddicts hope to see more of "Francine" with Betty Draper once Season Three starts.

Winter is not entirely drear,
For mid its cold and snow,
Come Christmas, Hanukkah, and the glad New Year,
Their pleasures to bestow.
So for this note, to you addressed,
There is sufficient reason:
It comes to wish the very best
of this lovely season!
Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

As a gift to myself, I downloaded all of Season Two yesterday and watched the first 4 or 5 yesterday (through 3 Sundays). I love knowing how the season will end and watching all the clues leading up to it. I've been in total denial about how much I miss this show.

It's a long cold winter for many of us, so why not amuse ourselves by wondering what the characters were up to in 1961, the year that was "skipped" between Seasons 1 and 2. The writers gave us some clues: Don had an affiair with somebody named Sarah who works at Random House (thanks, Bobbie Barrett for that clue); Betty took up riding; Sal got married; Peggy took Don's advice and escaped from the hospital and went back to work; Joan met Dr. Greg; and Rachel Mencken married Tilden Katz.
But what else happened?

I recently re-watched the final episode of Season 2, and I think my favorite scene, at least from a purely visual perspective, was the beauty parlor scene where Betty tells Francine about her pregnancy. Just loved the pink accents in the salon and the hairdressers in uniform. It truly was a woman's domain, with not a man in sight. I loved how perfectly coiffed the women emerged. I suppose they did not wash their hair until the following week's visit? Does anyone else remember when hair salons were called beauty parlors?

Ah, the Red Velvet Cake - so lovely and so delicious - the perfect holiday dessert.
I remember the first time I made it, my husband accidentally dropped one layer on the floor. The cake was much shorter than the usual 4 layers, but, hey, it tasted great and everyone loved it. My sister asked for the recipe for Valentine's Day - she dropped the entire bowl of batter as she was getting ready to pour it into the pans. She has refused to make it ever since as she still has nightmares about the red batter all over her white cabinets - it splattered quite badly.

Here we go again, Maddicts!
As promised, I am posting the thread for our second Movie Mad-ness discussion. This month, "The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit," "The Day the Earth Stood Still," and Loretta Young will be the focus of our cinematic fascination.
This is the place to share your thoughts about this trio and explain why (in your opinion) Weiner inserted them in the series.

I have some photos of the Maddicts party at P.J. Clarke's from a couple of weeks ago. Bryan Batt showed up and I have 3 pix with him! Anyone wishing to send me their direct email, I will email the photos directly to you. My email is ghklein@att.net. Sorry, I'm having trouble uploading to snapfish. com. OK, OK, so I'm not a computer genius.

I enjoy watching movies on AMC. When ads come on, however, I must reduce the volume. I understand why ads are louder, but the ratio is way to great and annoying.

Grace Kelly's first movie was called Fourteen Hours based on a New Yorker article regarding a man about to jump from a building in New York. Grace Kelly plays a woman considering a divorce. I sense some influences of this movie and others on Mad Men. Can anyone else think of other sources?

Wouldn't it be interesting if Season 3 included an episode that takes place during the Christmas season? How would the Draper house or the SC office be decorated? Anyone have suggestions what items the set should contain? What kind of Christmas trees were popular then? What kind of gifts would Sally or Bobby ask for? What would Don and Betty get each other for Christmas?

Because Mad Men is all about a Madison Avenue advertising agency, we Maddicts had quite a time a while back discussing the TV ads we hated the most. I think everyone agreed on the icky, awful, unexplainable Hotels.com ad with the guy in the bathtub, and the other with the guy doing the weird voice.
Well, I now present for your opinions, Maddicts, the Levi Jeans commercial currently being played on TV. It consists of a scruffy guy and an equally unkempt girl, apparently strangers to each other, both wearing Levi Jeans (excuse me, that should be just barely wearing Levi Jeans as they are each in the process of taking them off), who are apparently breaking into a stranger's apartment to have sex.
I could write forever on why this commercial, in my opinion, is so wrong, but instead, I am asking you, my fellow Maddicts, for your thoughts on this commercial. You are a smart and savvy bunch, and I value your opinions. So, what is your take on this commercial? Thank you in advance for what I know will be some interesting reading, even if you don't agree with me.

I'm back in L.A. and Charlie, my Yorkie and I have put up the biggest tree! I put a beautiful Mommy deer and her baby all lit up in my front yard and have the cutest lit village with a revolving tree. These are all new decor and have enjoyed getting my house all lit up! Hope you are having as much fun as I have had putting these up. What are you doing to prepare. Are there some pretty decorations you enjoy every year in your hometown? I want to get a pretty nativity scene. And, have bought only presents for me and Charlie. Now, it's time for my Mom and Brother. I love them so and wonder what I can get them that would make them happy.

Best wishes to both our beloved "Joan" played by the ever delightful Christina Hendricks. In real life she is engaged to a decent fellow actor Geoffrey Arend.
This afternoon the TV Guide website carried the good news, so we can believe it. TVG even has an adorable photo of the happy couple.

What do you think our MM characters would ask for this Christmas? (I think Rachel is the only celebrator of Hanukkah.)
Me - season 2 on DVD.
Bert - new socks to replace the ones he got gum on.
Roger - a divorce
Don - a new daddy
Betty - a new chair for the dining room
Your turn!!!

I long for "Mad Men" action dolls! Make some. Earn some money:-)
Don would come with a package of cigarettes, his war-medal and a napkin with something written on it. He would have two set´s of clothes. A suit and a tux.
Pete would come with a rifle and a chip-and-dip. Or maybe a chicken on a plate. He would also have two set´s of clothes. His blue suit and his pj´s. Or maybe his golf-outfit.

Last night the Maddicts met at P.J. Clarke's in New York. It was a resounding success -- it was me, Steve (Old Fashioned), Madmenfan4ever (from Atlanta), wasthere and Bappy (from Philadelphia) plus a friend of theirs, Drapery (from Long Island), Phyllis (from New York), and Katie89 (from New York). We all got along famously and everyone had a great time!
As Steve, Suzanne (Madmenfan4ever), and I were standing on 3rd Ave. waiting for people to show up, guess who we see walking by???? BRYAN BATT, who had gotten an Evite from a friend of his informing him about the party and telling him to show up and say hello! And he did!

We've scripted plenty of our hopes for season 3.. Maybe it's time we return to the classics and interject our MM cast with twists appropriate to the SC crowd and context. My 1st thought is to see Joan surrounded by a bevy of admirers, reminiscant of the BBQ at 12 Oaks in Gone With the Wind..

If you were a child during the 50'S and 60'S was TV better then or is it better today. Do the shows you remember as a child STILL hold up. When looking at them with adult eyes compared to having a childs eye view of shows. Do you still love the shows you loved then or has it changed.
