I Met Elisabeth Moss
Today I went to the matinee performance of "Speed-The-Plow" on Broadway, starring Jeremy Piven, Raul Esparza, and Elisabeth Moss. It was terrific! Much better than I expected. After the performance, the actors ask for donations for Broadway Cares, an AIDS charity. It's a Broadway tradition that at this time of year the actors come forward after the show to personally raise money for this very worthy cause. Elisabeth was standing right at the door taking donations. As I dropped some money into the pot, I looked her right in the eye and said, "I just want to tell you how much I love Mad Men -- the best show on television. The greatest show EVER on television." She smiled, and said "Thank you." She was very sweet and much prettier in person than she appears on the show. She was also terrific in her part as the temporary secretary in this tale of Hollywood greed and ambition. Just thought I'd share my brush with greatness. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Gail, good for you!
It must have been so thrilling. I remember being in NYC long ago when they took a collection for Broadway Cares, and it was awesome being so very close to the stars -- though I did not "know" any like you did!
You will really have bragging rights at Clarke's.
Happy Thanksgiving!
.....Gail, well, then in that case, could I get YOUR autograph? Heh heh....
Happy Thanksgiving.....Have fun on the 6th.....
Kind regards,
~DM
Wow! That's exciting! Is she tiny? She looks very small on TV.
Now that is cool...I just love it when people meet "stars" and they turn out to be nice and not stuck up. Just what one would expect of a Mad Men actor. Yay for you, Gail!
You know what I wish, Gail?---that Matt W. (or any MM folks!!) would show up at your bash there in NYC/P. J. Clark's in Dec.!!!
That would be so great...esp. since I read on here that he did come to the Basket of Kisses folks' party a while back! It would be just like him to do that. Let's hope, huh?! Hey, Jon Hamm, John Slattery, Christina Hendricks, Elisabeth Moss, January Jones, Robert Morse, Bryan Batt, etc., etc.--Can you dig it???
If Matt Weiner ever showed up at our little party, I'd PLOTZ!!!! (That's Yiddish for "pass out")
I have another tenuous "connection" to Bryan Batt. As you may know, I work at Saks 5th Ave. in New York. Another salesman upstairs in Salon Z (for "large" women) is quite friendly with Bryan Batt and his mother. In fact, Bryan and his mother were in the store recently shopping and having lunch with my friend. I have told Beau (the other salesman) how much I love MM (he loves it too) and that if Bryan ever comes in again, I want to meet him! Beau tells me that Bryan is a sweetheart of a guy, and is from a very fine and distinguished family from New Orleans.
If I ever get to meet Bryan Batt, I will post it immediately!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I have to tell you how excited I am for you, Gail!
Living in NYC affords residents many, many opportunities for connecting with those that affect your life culturally.....it is the cultural hub of the world, after all. I lived in NJ for a short time and really got a sense of it. Loved your Bryan Batt story, too. It's great when our favorites are great people, too.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey, Gail, did you know Bryan has a shop---"Hazelnut"--- in New Orleans with his partner? I went to their websit, hazelnut.com, and it is quite elegant-looking. They have some neat vintage pieces for sure.
I have not heard anything about any of our beloved MM stars (yet!) that isn't sterling. Hope they all stay that way!
HOPE EVERYONE HAS FUN AT THE PARTY AT P.J.'S ON THE 6TH.
HAVE A VODKA GIMLET OR TWO FOR ME!
make that hazelnutneworleans.com !!!!
Gail, I had goose bumps reading about your experience! I am so happy for you! ( okay, I squealed like a teen)
Hope everyone has been well. I hope to read all these posts after exams in December.
Gail, LOL and so glad you could make the connection in person - how amazing is Elizabeth?
Happy to hear you work at Saks - my favorite store - coming from the retail wasteland that is Seattle I plan to swing through there at least once before meeting all the NYC Maddicts Saturday night! And it would be too wonderful if our party got crashed by MW or any of the cast - Rich Sommer has been doing a bunch of comedy in NY lately.
Hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend.
Awesome Gail!!! Im so happy for you... Happy that someone met a Madmen actress.. Way to go.. Cant wait to blog for season 3!!!! Happy Holidays..
Wow Gail! What a great thing! How exciting is that! I'd love to see the play. There was an excerpt on the blogs and she looks great and the theme of the play is fun. I would love to see it. Were the tickets hard to get? I would be tempted to go there for the weekend and seeing it. Did you see Bryan Batt sing on the "Mad Men Revue". Just type this in and you'll get the web site. He is sooo good! You'll enjoy it. Enjoy the 6th and Happy Holidays!
Nora: No, the tickets were up at TKTS, the half-price ticket booth in Times Square. I paid about 50 bucks, plus tax and handling charges. I believe the show is running through the end of February.
Seagirl: Looking forward to meeting you on Dec. 6th!!
@Gail.Hey pretty cool that you met Eliz Moss up front and personal. Going to the play was on my "To Do" list and I was going to buy my ticket at TKTS too!
I sent you an email re: next week's Maddict party.
I would love to see Speed the Plow next Sunday, but my flight is leaving late aftnoon, despite requesting an early evening departure.
Oh well,I am really psyched to be able to meet everyone at the party at P.J.'s.My friends think it's pretty bizarre that I am meeting up with a bunch of folks where our common interest happens to be a television show.I told one that a Maddict party is no different than say, participating in a alumni association event.Yes,it's a "Fan Club" of sorts but that's why we are called Maddicts.
Love Elisabeth Moss. She's got an indie film coming out next month called "El Camino". Can't wait to see it. It's a road trip movie total break away from her character on Mad Men. I'm following the release and info on twitter "@indiefilmkiosk"
