Talk is a public forum where you can ask questions and share your commentary with fellow Mad Men fans.

Will the actors read our posts?

If they do what would you want them to know? Keep in mind they are working really, really long hours . Some of them could be posting right now under assumed names. Where is Visan?

During the Emmys red carpet entry, when Christina Hendricks was being interviewed, they asked her whether "Joan" was disappointed in not getting the scriptreader job for Harry Crane's new television department. She remarked that the consensus was that many people were upset that Joan hadn't gotten the job (which led me to believe she was referencing the consensus on the forum, what else could she have been referring to?).

So, yes, I think when the actors have time they probably glance at the forum, and specifically questions/topics about their character. I doubt if they spend too much time thoroughly reading the forum because it might influence the "reactions" of their fictional character, and how they play it.

user-pic

If they've been reading the forum, they should know that I find the acting, writing, costume/set design, and cinematography fantastic (please bring back the Amy Winehouse song from Season 1). Love the show, the twists and turns of the storylines, and deeply grateful for this entertaining diversion in my life (both the series and the talk forum).

Wouldn't we all like to ask January Jones (or Melinda McGraw, Maggie Siff, Rosemary DeWitt, et al.) what it's like to kiss Jon Hamm?!!!

user-pic

The season filming has wrapped already so just remember, if they read these posts, it will be from home.

user-pic

@greytone: well then they're definitely probably reading it to see what our reactions are, for good or ill.

I'm sure it must be hard for them when we're trashing the character or their acting.

In order to stay in character, an actor really has to "identify" and believe in their character's position, decisions, wants/desires, and whatnot. They can't be "hating" who they play or else they wouldn't bring any believability to the character or the character's actions. So when we're dishing or slamming what their character has said or done, I'm sure it hurts a little bit.

user-pic

I'd want them to know that I appreciate all their hard work, dedication, late hours and immense talent just to entertain us! Being an actor is a very giving job...if you gifted gorgeous Mad Men cast members do indeed read these forums (and also M. Weiner and all the wonderful crew members who work just as hard crafting all the raw footage into the shining gems of entertainment we see every Sunday night!)
THANK YOU for the gift of Mad Men.

@Gail: I'm sure it's pretty damn good to be kissing JH even in front of 50 camera & prop people.

I still think the best "screen" kiss (which wasn't) was Adrien Brody and Halle Berry at the Academy Awards ceremony couple of years ago. Whew! Hot....

Hello, Nmkay, I'm here!

I always figured someone associated with Mad Men (an intern, most likely) reads the forum. That's why I call it like I see it!

If they do happen to read the post s we put out there, It would be amazing to know the fans thoughts are deeply into the show. Most of us work and we take time out to post feedback on topics relating to the show. I would love to meet each and everyone of them to see how they really are. I especially would like to meet Roger and Betty they are my favorite! They are all good actors and actress and do a damn good job on their scenes. Thanks Madmen director Matt Weiner and the producers for having a incredible show that actually has meaning and potential. Keep this show on forever what will we do without this show!?

Seriously, I would like to tell Matt Weiner and all the actors and writers that this show is the greatest work of art ever produced on television.

It has absolutely grabbed me like no other show or movie in my life, and I've seen a lot of shows and movies in my life!

I would say watching Mad Men has been a life-transforming experience, and I don't think that's an understatement. I hope you're reading this, Matt Weiner!

I mean, overstatement.

Laurie B - I don't/didn't watch all those shows, but I'll agree with many of them, especially #4 (Gilmore Girls), #14 (Buffy), and #19 (Veronica Mars), all favs of mine. Luke and Lorelei on Gilmore Girls was really special because fans saw their amazing chemistry and it took until the end of the FOURTH season before they even kissed. I miss the show terribly; it had smart writing, snappy dialogue, wonderful characters and a lot of heart. You can see Lorelei in my userpics. :)

What kiss from MM should they have included? Rachel and Don at the rooftop of Menkins was great, but then Don ruined it by telling her he was married. LOL

user-pic

MM is an exceptional ensemble of outstanding talent, ranging from creator, casting, writers, set and costume design, and of course, actors (grips and best boys too – just in case they read this blog). From my perspective, the same could be said for The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Rescue Me. Jon Hamm, however, brings a certain ‘someum someum’ to the role of Draper that makes MM special. He’s the right actor for a great role.

I’d wager the only thing Melinda McGraw wanted to hear when filming the ‘Maidenform’ bedroom scene was: Take 5!

user-pic

Don and Rachel's rooftop smooch was sultry! It was definitely worthy a top 20 mention! Did I want to kick Don in the shin for announcing to Rachel that he was married!

Mad Men is definitely my favorite show on TV. Everything about it is fabulous. The writing, the acting, the direction, the sets. Everyone I know is completely into this show!!!!!! It is the best!!!!!!!

user-pic

Laurie B., I agree with the Top 20 Kisses list in that "The Thorn Birds" kiss was listed...man that was a hot one for sure! Pretty hot afterward in the bedroom too.
Oh, also the kiss(es) from "ER"---they were a hot couple---Julianna Marguiles (sp?) and George Clooney---as well....whooooeeee

user-pic

I remember how my husband would ride me for dropping everything to watch The Gilmore Girls. By the time that Luke and Lorelai kissed, he was cheering like he was watching a ballgame.

I sure miss that show, Mad Men has been the first to grab me since then.

user-pic

57Chevy - Another GG fan - yeah! It was one of my favorites, and I was really disappointed when the creator/heart-and-soul of the show, Amy Sherman-Palladino, (like what Matt Wiener is for MM) left the show before the final season, and things went to crap. It got canceled unexpectedly and the fans definitely didn't get the ending they deserved (Luke and Lorelei wedding, hello!). Mad Men has been the first show since then that I've fallen in love with. The two shows are very different, but they are both of high quality in their own ways.

If Matt Weiner and the writers and actors read this, I would tell them that my daughter and I were watching nothing but reality shows like Project Runway, American Idol, dance shows until we found MM. Now we both love it and I do think it is the best show I've ever seen on TV. My favorite characters in order are:

Betty Draper
Don Draper
Roger Stirling
Joan Holloway
Peggy Olson

user-pic

I'm a fan of the overall show...plot, acting, cinematography, fashions, etc. Yet I do have favorite current characters....(Rachel Menken is my all-time favorite but she's no longer on the show, sadly!)

In order....

Don the Magic Wand Draper
Peggy Olsen
Roger Sterling
Ken Cosgrove
Hildy

If I could tell the actors anything, I would thank them for staying true to the era. The men and women actors of MM have to endure 60's style hair cuts (including pounds of Brylcream and AquaNet) and several pounds of horrible undergarments and uncomfortable tight suits. They endure all of this in order to transport back into 1960/1962 and have us really feel what it was like to live in this decade. They sacrifice their own personal looks, comfort and styles for MM fans. Cheers to all of you! ;o)

Born in 1951 and growing up in the 60's, I would tell the writers I think they are very accurate in portraying what life was like for both men and women back then. Certainly, the fashion, cars, they way they speak, but also how women were expected to act and men, too. The only thing I find to be inaccurate are the separations and divorces. Glen's mom, Francine and Carlton, Duck and his wife, Mona and Roger and now Don and Betty (did I miss anyone). I don't think that is accurate. My dad was an executive and my mom a housewife. I thought back and none of my neighbors, my dad's executive friends, my girlfriend's parents, my other relatives - I couldn't think of anyone from that generation who had been separated or divorced. My cousins and my friends - yes, but we are from the hippie generation. I guess a lot of men cheated, I don't know because I was 11 in 1962, but they must have kept it from their wives.
